You know what's funny about this, there were police officers who were talking to my co-worker and told her that the people at Stagecoach are a breeze in comparison with the folks at Coachella. I don't have a stance one way or the other, but I do know that everybody I've ever encountered at Stagecoach has been friendly and welcoming. Besides, 180 arrests is LESS THAN 1% of the entire attendance. That's really not a horrible number.
No matter what they say I've done, I ain't never had too much fun!
But look at a community of 55k people. They don't arrest 180 on a weekend in any community of the same size. I talked to the law enforcement also, and they stated that there were a lot of problem that did not end in an arrest but almost all were alcohol related. Just say'n
When you say community do you mean like neighborhood? Hardly seems like an apples to apples comparison. Stagecoach and Coachella are parties, big, long drawn out weekend parties. I think a comparison to, say, a football match (soccer) might be more fair (A total of 3,089 English and Welsh fans were arrested at international and domestic games in 2010/11) Yes I looked that up... and that's a record low - link below if interested.
Point is, anytime you put that many people together, expect them to get rowdy AND allow alcohol (tightly controlled or not) this stuff happens. Out of those 160 arrests how many did you hear about? Or even see?

SC 2010, 2011 & 2012! "Old enough to know better, but still too drunk to care"
Your right. I'm just pointing out that the law enforcement community will look at it in comparison to events here in this country. I personally didn't have any problems this year with anyone. But the LEOs I talked to said, the alcohol abuse is much worse that coachella (no surprise) and there was more fights and assaults that before. if you want to compare to sporting events look at an American football or baseball game. I don't think that they have ever arrested 180 at a dodger or raider game, or for that much a 3 games. I just know that
LAw enforcement community will think its a problem they need to fix. Let just hope they don't go back to the no booze in camps like 4 years ago.
I hope they still allow just maybe search better I saw one rv come in with a pallet of beer. It would be nice if they weren't such slobs with all the trash on the ground as well.
Agreed, I've never been when there were alcohol restrictions. Is that how they did it? Just no alcohol in camping at all? Thats crazy! I'd be much more likely to stay off site if so.
I got in with way more than my allotted alcohol but they were super strict about what they found in my glove box and center console. They barely opened my coolers at all but they dug all the way to the bottom of my interior, even questioning a lugnut key I keep in the glove box...

yes, but many of those illegal drugs make everyone happy and carefree. only reason they are illegal is because the government hasn't figured out how to create a version they can sell and reap the profits from, haha. no one fights while on weed, shrooms, acid, mdma, etc. cops don't care if everyone is having a good time.
Acid is a HIGHLY volatile drug and the user can not determine the reaction they will have. Also, with the exception of weed, ONE try of any of the afore mentioned substances CAN kill you. Which is why I've never touched them. And I don't mean overdose, I mean mere consumption, as you can't predict the reaction your body will have. They are illegal for a VERY good reason, and I hope it stays that way. Weed of course being the only exception, and I actually dont believe that legalizing that would be a step in the right direction, but that's a totally different debate.
No matter what they say I've done, I ain't never had too much fun!
mushrooms themselves have never killed anyone. neither has lsd. a person going crazy on them and doing something idiotic can. but that is true with prescription drugs, too, or a myriad other substances available over the counter. kids are drinking hand sanitizer these days or snorting "bath salts". show me the amount of people who die from drugs like the ones i mentioned in the previous post compared to those that die from alcohol or prescription drugs. bet you there is a huuuuuuge disparity.
it is not the ecstasy that kills people for the most part, it is not drinking enough water so your body overheats, or drinking too much and throwing your body chemistry out of whack. i mean, they use it in therapy for people. in a medical setting. sure there is a minority who may have an underlying medical condition that can cause an issue.
i would much rather have weed legal than have alcohol legal. just think, if alcohol was a completely new substance there is no way it would ever be legalized these days, yet here it is available in every store and every home for the taking. it has had a far more negative impact on society than weed ever will.

Not all alcohol is legal
As long as you have the money, you can get anything legal or illegal you want. At Stagecoach, Coachella, your neighborhood street corner etc...
You would have to be blind not to see people at Coachella drinking or people at Stagecoach doing drugs, it's an equal opportunity party on all fronts.
I was reading an article that Goldenvoice holds 12 step meetings behind the velvet ropes at the festivals and I have seen threads here looking for the same.
To each his own.
Stagecoach...07, 08, 09, 10, 11 & 12
In my opinion i think that they should put some alcohol restrictions into affect, but nothing to ridiculous. This might also help with how many people go to the event and how fast the tickets sell out as well.
I agree on the the underage drinking thing - but i'm sure its pretty difficult to manage so many people.
I don't think they would ban alcohol in the camping areas again though because everyone is so used to it now that all of those people would stop doing the onsite camping thing - regulating alcohol more would make more sense financially for goldenvoice than eliminating it all together
At least there are more people that can behave than there are that cannot behave.
I on the other hand can behave because when I drink, I become SOMEBODY!!!Haha

100 bucks says the arrest numbers were inflated by the number of kids getting busted with fake IDs. Happened to my cousin. He went to Coachella and used his fake ID all weekend without a hitch. Goes to Stagecoach, and his fake ID gets spotted immediately. While he was being booked he confessed to the cop that he used his fake ID all weekend for Coachella, and that he was shocked that they would scrutinize his ID at SC2012 after going 3 days without a hitch the week before. Cop's response: They were looking at the bigger picture. So many illegal drugs were used in Coachella that as long as you didn't cause ANY trouble, you could literally blaze up in public and not even get a ticket. Underage drinking was the LEAST of their concern. However, since Stagecoach didn't have as many illegal drugs, the cops were now focused on underage drinking. Easy arrests there without the fear of inciting a mob.
My cousin was released after 90 minutes, but he has a court date. Technically, that's an arrest. I'll bet you that those 180-some arrests are inflated numbers from all the harmless fake-IDs they busted.
