same here... just don't run it at 4 AM blowing fumes into someones camp and you won't usually be bothered
I dont think the real issue is with portable generators... However to run a portable generator takes fuel, and to run one for several days requires more fuel than the generator tank will hold, so you will ultimately need to store fuel somewhere. So the real question/issue is where are you safely going to store gallons of fuel in a tight packed envirement like EDII.
Dont get me wrong... Im totally down to have portable generators and always bring my little one just in case, (needed it every year in ED1 at some point) but i see their point from a safety perspective that many people dont have the capacity (physically or mentally) to safely store fuel in an envirement such as stagecoach.
I got laid off when they closed that asbestos factory, and wouldn't you know it, the army cuts my disability pension because they said that the plate in my head wasn't big enough.
I saw a lot of people running them the last two years, just be courteous with them and you will be fine.. If you are going to rent one you can get the Honda Whisper generators and they are extremely quiet and no one will ever know..
