Default Lost a country radio station in San Diego

I know it's not SC related, but I've got to vent. I got in the car this morning to take my kids to school and turned on the radio. It's usually set to one of two Country stations in San Diego. To my dismay, I heard talk radio and news coming out of my speakers instead of Cindy Spicer. What the heck happened?

Apparently, Clear Channel Communications (who owns iHeartRadio) decided they would do away with the courtry format and simulcast their AM talk radio show on the FM station instead. Why not choose one of their other stations with overlapping formats? This sucks.

I'm not knocking the only remaining country station in San Diego (I listen to them too), but I have to say this is quite disappointing. Are there really so few country fans in SoCal that we have to lose a station?
I missed SC 2012 and am going through withdrawals. Looking forward to SC13

Are you referring to the 95.7 "New Country" station?? I'm in Oceanside 3-4 days a week and I listen to both country stations. Now that station has changed formats? Bummer.... I noticed the SD stations did play new releases and a better variety than we hear on our local stations in the LA area. KSON is the only SD country station now?

Wow that's sad news. I'm sorry. I do think Socal appreciates the country music artform as much as other parts of the country. But it just makes me feel that much more unique. When I'm blarrin' my 105.1 down the streets of LA traffic, I get some major 'where is that chick from' looks. But I don't mind I like meeting people who are passionate about the music they listen to and how it makes them feel, regardless of genre. I just got the new Florence and the Machine CD... unbelievable! I wish I could MAKE people feel how happy I feel when I listen to country music, but as long as they get that feeling from music, I don't feel like they're missing out.
Daddy cried when he saw my tatoo,
    Said he loves me anyway.
My brother got the brains of the family,
So I thought I'd learn to sing.

    Sirius/XM FTW.

Do yourself a favor and ditch terrestrial radio.

I saw that on facebook this morning!! Bummed...that's the only station I listen to when I'm in the San Diego area in the summer. Great station and great radio personalities! They will be missed!

Reminds me of losing KZLA in Los Angeles 5 years ago. After that we had zero country music. Luckily, 1/2 a year later KKGO came on. Perhaps more country will return to San Diego some day.

What's funny is KSON still refers to itself to San Diego's #1 Station for new country....well duh! They're the ONLY one now!

I was so bummed back in the 90's when KIKFM went off the air in OC, then KZLA came around and they killed that station too (when it was the most listened to Country station in the state), Now they have KKGO GO Country which is not owned by a big broadcaster so hopefully it'll stick!

i remember that day clearly. My cousin sent me a text asking me what happened to KZLA. Since i was not by a radio at the time, i had to wait, but as soon as i could, i tuned in to KZLA and found it had changed. Like hillbillyRockstar said, NO country music (well, i can pick up 95.1 KFROG if i'm in my car, but that's it. I can pick up KSON in San Diego as well, but only in my car and if i go ANY farther north of San Diego than i already am, i lose the station).

i think if enough noise is made about the lack of country music in San Diego, somebody will hear it and listen. It can be done!!
