Perhaps. However, watching TV with my DVR, I skip the commercials, so that may be the case.

DVR ROCKS!!! I skip the commercials too. It's hard enough to find time to watch the few shows I like. I certainly don't want to waste time on those interruptions.
I missed SC 2012 and am going through withdrawals. Looking forward to SC13

Agreed.... however, the problem with the convenience of DVRs is that more and more shows are doing product placement. "Sons of Anarchy" and "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" seem to have the same beer brand with the labels facing the camera at convenient angles. Expect future shows to have more extreme product placement like this:

Hahaha, it's on EVERY show! A lot of them cars, but they're all so easy to spot. Hawaii 5-0, Psych, Burn Notice, and every other show I watch religiously. The most shameless of them all I would have to say is Biggest Loser. Every segment is to sell SOMETHING.
No matter what they say I've done, I ain't never had too much fun!

i have had extremely cynical moments where even extreme makeover home edition gets under my skin. i sit there wondering how much sears pays them to shop in their stores, how much the contractor paid to be a part of the show, etc. oh no, wait, it's all done out of the kindness of their hearts.

I worked on the first episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition after the pilot and I hate that show. Hopefully it's gotten better the way they do things nowadays, but it was awful back in the day. Everything was strictly cosmetic for TV, but poorly constructed with cheap materials.
I want to rock and roll all night...and part of everyday

I'm not sure about the GC, but I know my company donated time/materials to them a couple years ago (and our stuff is NOT cheap). We're a union commercial mechanical contractor.

Also, my aunt (RIP) owned a flower shop and she donated all of the floral arrangements one episode. Pretty sure their only compensation was her business name mentioned in the credits.

    That's good to hear.

Commercialism and it's superficiality sucks yes, but, sa la vie. We live in a consumer nation. I get over it pretty quick. When money isn't the focus of your lifestyle, I think it helps.

Raising Hope is funny when you look at their product placement. They'll rename everything so it sounds similar to name brands but isn't. Like People magazine turns into Persons and... I can't remember another good one. They kind of make a mockery of it. Like that old Wayne's World scene with Mike Myers and Dana Carvey. That scene cracks me up everytime... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QwNdTYdZqE

Daddy cried when he saw my tatoo,
    Said he loves me anyway.
My brother got the brains of the family,
So I thought I'd learn to sing.

I say, "Who cares?" Let them place their products wherever they want. I watched the latest Sprint phones popping up in Smallville episodes for years. (I'm not ashamed to say I'm a Superman fan. ) It didn't make me want to run out and buy the latest phone. If companies want to pay to place their products in the shows I watch, I'm not going to complain. I don't hate commercials because they're selling products, I hate them because they take time away from my shows.

And they are always louder than the program too

I work for a company involved with those car restoration shows. We have sent regular ol stickers for them to put on empty boxes to make it appear as a shipment. And banners to place for shooting..... and t-shirts for the crew or our employees working on the build. Its aaaaall about product placement.

They are always louder!! And that is technically illegal, just no one enforces it.
