how is it being greedy? they could have just started ga passes at $199, they knew they were going to sell no matter what. but instead they offered the first and second batch of 5000 passes at a lower price. wanna blame someone? blame the 10,000 people who bought tickets before you.
and do people really think $199 is a lot for 3, or for some 4, days of crazy fun? find me a better deal for $50-$66 a day.
I agree with you Cooter, you are paying for the whole experience and anad a bunch of awesome singers!!! I think it's awesome they even offer layaway.....!!! $50 bucks a day???? Awesome!!
These GA prices should have been ONE Price all along...NOT raise it in minutes..you cannot blame the ones who bought first either; that is a dumb thing to say. IF they would have set the GA 3 day pass price at $200 no matter when you bought it would have been more equal....that is a great price for 3 days worth of music...but for gosh sakes cut a break on the extra fees & when I went in earlier today there were seats available so how could they have sold out yesterday?....This entire experience was a nightmare...and yep no matter how you slice it greed was a BIG part in this
they added more sections behind the p2 area that was originally on sale and sold out, expanded the area due to demand.
please explain how greed was a big part of it. everyone keeps throwing that term around but it makes no sense. wouldn't it have been more greedy to sell all ga at $200?
5000 tickets at $150 means they lost out on $250,000 by starting the price at that level.
another 5000 tickets at what, $180? means another $100,000 they missed out on by selling at that price.
the math doesn't lie. they took a pay cut of $350,000 or so. greed?
fuck, i hate ignorant comments like that.
I totally agree with you! I don't blame the people before me who got tickets. What ever happened to a week or so, a month or so of same price tickets? That's why all this scalping is taking place.
People are willing to pay for a good festival, and obviously they are paying these ridiculous prices... However, they WILL ENJOY the great entertainment, but they WILL EXPECT the festival not to be oversold, not to have to deal with a bunch of young drunks disinterested in the music, not to have to deal with fights and lame security people that don't know how to handle security issues... For the big bucks, come more expectations...
9000 passes were sold the first day last year. yesterday over 40,000 passes were sold. based on last years numbers tickets may have still been available today at the second tier pricing. no one saw this coming. not the fans, not the promoter. it is what it is. no one to blame here.
GREED IS a part of it because they could have kept the ticket prices the same for a week or a month... Suddenly this year they decide to go by numbers rather than a time frame... This is what caused this whole mess, with the system that couldn't fairly and equitably handle the masses of people that were trying for the lowest priced tickets asap.
Starting it on a weekday was a mistake...those of us who work don't have time for this, which makes an unfair advantage, however there was an unfair advantage anyway with that BS random waiting room.
The next part of the GREED is when they oversell the festival. I remember last year Rascal Flatts announcing that there were over 60,000 people there. I sure liked the size of the Stagecoach the first 3 years....after that is when the first part of the GREED set in. Way too many people. Lets see what the numbers are this year.
Come back and talk to me and others after the weekend of Stagecoach and we'll see what the numbers are then,...we can discuss GREED again!)
and how do you know they didn't go by numbers last year? if memory serves, prices went up at a random moment with no warning, most likely because a certain number of passes were sold. it wasn't based on a set date. they have a bottom line that needs to be met, this is a business after all.
the first few years of stagecoach was when the festival was not as well known so of course there were fewer people there. now everyone knows. sure you may have liked when it was half empty, but if it had continued that way there would probably be no festival. you can't be mad because others found out about your little secret.
and i will take my attendance numbers from the promoter, not a band onstage trying to get the crowd to cheer. capacity at the fields is 55,000 and this year was not sold out, so there were less than that in attendance in 2011.

You would think that business people could figure this out, it's not like they're new at this ...OF COURSE people are going to rush to buy tickets when a limited number are at $149... and at $169 (which is what I paid last year, a month into the sales of Stagecoach tickets). That's why this whole mess took place on Friday. How could anyone not see this coming?? Are they new at it? What was expected? It's not like Goldenvoice doesn't have experience with this.... Good way to blow it off..."it is what it it. no one is to blame here" ...ya right!
BULLSH!T.... Stevie Wonder could have seen this coming! (and 40,000 people did see it coming) Just look at the history of the last four years and figure a trend. Your smarter than that Cooter! I agree with a lot you say because its the blunt truth, but you know your wrong on predicting this year would be simlar to last year, or the year before, or so on.
And the lottory system of ticket sales was total BS and its impossible to defend! thats why such a small percent of people (like less than 1%) are happy with the way it turned out.
I got laid off when they closed that asbestos factory, and wouldn't you know it, the army cuts my disability pension because they said that the plate in my head wasn't big enough.
No one in their right mind is going to project 400+% growth from the previous year. If someone had been able to they would have made Stagecoach 2 weekends in the new contract like they made Coachella. As it is they have to probably wait for the new contract to expire if they want to add that.
I guess im coming at it more from a camping and RV perspective, with the limited amount of spots they have. but i guess festival pass sales should count too... what would you say then? At least double if not tripple, right? Everyone was talking throughout the year that they werent going to get burned and will be on the site the minute they went on sale. Some thought should have went into how the system would handle the initail surge of concerned festival goers.
And still a complete clusterf*ck in the system... and the "waiting room" or acutally the "lottery room" was a disaster which i have not read a good defense to yet.

Yes it was a total mess. Ticketmaster would have been able to handle the surge of people trying to buy. Also the "lotto" as you say was a total mess. As my friends were unable to get out of the waiting room I was able to get right in multiple times the whole morning. There still has been no explanation for that.
Capacity at Empire is actually almost infinite. However, their permits with the city of Indio allow for up to 80,000 per day.

The 80,000 is for Coachella - where there is no VIP seating, and no chairs/lawchairs, hay bales, etc. You can fit more people in when there is no furniture and when people don't reserve huge ass spots with blankets and ropes. At Coachella we stand, we don't sit our butts down except maybe to eat or sleep.
