OK, so here is my thought. Country music is awesome. I love everything about it--everything it stands for and every picture it paints.
I love country radio, the CDs, the videos, the live shows in person, and the live shows on TV. I love the awards shows and I love the people that love country.
But, what is going to happen to it?
With gas prices going up, there are going to be fewer trucks. Songs like "Pick Up Man", "We Rode In Trucks", and others are going to be naustalgia before too long.
Similarly, with energy (and electricity) prices going up, songs like "Every Light In The House Is On" will be long gone.
"International Harvester" will not be a song about a farmer in the United States working hard. It will be about some scrawny little pitiful person in a far away land harvesting food to export to us.
All the songs about going to Mexico for fun and vacationing will no longer be about that.
What are all of the "rock stars" coming into country trying to rejuvenate their careers going to do to country? Will they be more inclined to sing songs without the country values and pictures we've loved for so long? The rock stars coupled with all of the things happening above might expenentially set country music out into space.
What do you guys think? Is there any hope for our country music? Is it doomsday or are these all opportunities for country music to get better (how can it get any better?).
Trace Adkins is telling us that "You're gonna miss this" and Kenny Chesney is telling us to "Don't Blink". Are these signs?
Dear country music, please don't go anywhere. Don't make Tim McGraw have to add another verse to his "Back When" song.

Well, if it does slip away, we have an awesome library of music to still listen to. I think Country never goes out of style. I love the old old old stuff even more than the new stuff.
I agree that songs are changing, and not for the better...lyrics are getting desperate at times. We can only hope that the newcomers keep it real and simple...when George, Alan and the like fade away over the years (not due to getting bored, but to loosing them to God) things will really change...time will tell.
HBRS - what a fantastic post. So thoughtful and what an insight you have.
I've watched what is considered country music change, grow, change again, grow again. There are too many of us crazy music fans that won't let it go away. Heck just look at Elvis - he makes 44 million a year today and has been dead almost 32 years now.
Just remember the song by Barbara Mandrell - I was country when country wasn't cool.
Oh man HBRS...when you put it that way it totally bums me out!!! Because it is so TRUE!!! Not to mention the no-talent pop stars who can't make it in their genre putting out "country" albums as a lame attempt to be relevant for another 15 minutes (Jessica Freaking Simpson!!) Which only dilutes the music and fan base even more......
Ok, I am too bummed out I am gonna head over to my Happy Thread....
Yes...
I agree with rose what a fantastic post...
They will just have more songs about the good old days and green energy and they will adjust like we all will..
I will be ticked off if it ever goes away...
It is all this Country has left of what is good and fun....
Well maybe not all....
A good part of it though...
Your post says what many of us believe country to be.
It is also so refreshing to see a new post about country music...
