This sounds like a great event for the entire family, but the outdoor cooking and alchohol restrictions seem completely overkill. The cost of the event is fair enough, and outdoor cooking restrictions are understandable. The restriction on alchohol is positively not possible to police and I don't think very many individuals will be receptive to a full RV search upon entry. I hope the promotors figure this out and relax restrictions. We are not rowdy drunks and would like to bring the kids. Being in our own RV as a paid camper, a glass of wine of my wife's choosing and some beer for myself from my RV should be allowed. Pull the Gestapo, let our people be free.

There will be a clubhouse that serves alcohol. The city can't take on the liability of letting thousands of people just bring there own (as with a lot of events). Maybe just keep things on the down low?

I think they would have to have a lot of manpower to enforce such rules! I believe once the event begins we will all be suprised how much the rules will be tossed!!

I was telling my husband and friends about this one and we ALL agreed that this is not "entirely" a rule but a SALES approach. I'm sure a can or cup of beer will be $5 or something. If they can make us buy alcohol from an approved vendor that is that much more they are ripping us off. Ya know....it's not the cost of the festival itself but all the other things combined that make it unaffordable. It's also quite blatant that they are doing their best to rip us off at every other turn!

So this is an easy fix. You spend the $5 or $10 bucks on a beer, enjoy it rapidly, head back to your RV or tent or truck, and refill the cup with your own icy cold beverege. Common sense people, use it.

I wonder if it's kind of like not being able to byo into a stadium... if they're the only purchase outlet, they can maybe cut off some of the people that have, uh, overindulged a bit? And maybe have some control over the hours alcohol is available? I'm just guessing. I'm not a camper.

I was thinking along the same lines - that they may be able to control over-consumption easier this way. I look at the positive side as being more people will be enjoying the music instead of being passed out in the drunk tank.

Let's look at it this way... the high ticket prices are meant to discourange scalping... paying high beer prices should discourage over-consumption. Then again, talk to any of the folks who attend the other music event and they will fill you in on the "down low".

You really don't want to drink too much here. I think the temperature at the last Coachella Festival was something like 117F - remember it's in the Indio Desert. I saw waaay too many casualties from drinking too much in the heat. Not a pretty sight. You really need to pace yourself here, and there's really no need to get drunk. You'll be on a natural high from the weekends entertainment.
Even if you think some of the acts are rubbish - you'll still have a great time. The atmosphere rocks.

There are drinking area's throughout the festival grounds, but you have to be 21 or over to enter. You need to take ID and you'll get a wristband. They have a selection of beers, wine and some cocktails. You are not allowed to take alcohol outside of these area's .

They have very tight controls on underage drinkers. It's not a sales plot to make you buy their alcohol at all. If underage drinkers are found onsite it could put the future of any further events in jeopardy. Something I'm sure none of us want.

As in life, all things in moderation and I don't think there will be a problem. I am going to be in an RV and have every intention of having a drink or two, but I will not get falling down drunk and ruin the fun of the festival. As for the "pop country crap" some refer to, I look forward to hearing them as well as the classics I've listened to for years. The entire country music experience is what I am going for and can't wait.

I hate to beat this to death but what kind of alcohol will be for sale just beer or Jack, Captain, Sothern.. so I can bring the appropriate mixer for the wife. Ok so I like a little OJ with my Southern Comfort or Coke with my Cap.
