Default REAL & POP Country Music Lists

Who of the lineup do you guys think makes the respective lists?

Trust me, I'm not complaining, I'm glad that the show will feature REAL country music!

For me is goes as such:

    REAL:
    Willie Nelson
    Kris Kristofferson
    Neko Case
David Serby (Local Cali Guy, I have booked him at one of my shows, he is fantastic!)
    Emmylou Harris
    Lucinda Williams
Jason Aldean (Barely makes the list. More for his record co...)
    Earl Scruggs
    Nickel Creek
    Yonder Mtn String Band
    Junior Brown
    Alejandro Escovedo
    Marty Stuart
Garrison Keillor (More Folk but much closer than a lot of performers)

    Pop:
    Sugarland
    Alan Jackson
    Sara Evans
    Kenney Chesney
Sugarland (These guys are like a poor man's Fleetwod Mac)
    Brooks & Dunn

    Unknown:
    Everyone else...

the "pop" is what will sell the tickets and attract fans and make the festival a lasting endeavor for years to come...the "real" is to gain cred and offer some diversity. Overall, for what it is, it's a very very solid lineup...and I think this festival will do very well, and satisfy all fans alike.

I think the opportunity for folks to see a variety of performers at the same setting enables everyone to be exposed to an ecclectic blend of sounds. This is an opportunity that many of us have not had, in a very long time, here in SoCal. I hope that everyone comes with an open mind and prepared for a good time with simply good music to sit back and enjoy.

As for the line-ups, people will probably only go to the ones where there's room. Since Alan Jackson had to cancel due to the fires in Soboba, I imagine he will be a real draw. However, like a glass of water to a Bedouin, I'm sure no one will complain about a thing!!

Don't get me wrong, the REAL artists here are worth the ticket price on their own. But I do realize the bill would have never been assembled without the draw of the pop country audience.

Basically...it looks like the "Mane" Stage has all the crap...oops, I mean pop acts. The other three stages are for the real country artists.

It seems that if someone didnt like "pop" country that there are 3 full other stages that one could enjoy. sounds neat.

I mean just what it says.

I saw these guys on somw award show and they look like a knock-off Fleetwood Mac. The broad looks like a wanna be Stevie Nicks that bought some old "white witch" clothes on Ebay and their set piece was some huge lame-ass castle with fog coming from the "moat".

When Willie Nelson comes out on stage with a big castle behind him dressed like some 70s rocker I will shoot myself. Oh wait, it won't happen. Because guys like him have enough talent and stage presence that that they don't need cheap gimmicks like that......

I love Alejandro Escovedo, I have seen him many times. He is sure not "pop" but he's not "real country" either. Pigeon-holing is a waste of time.

    willie;

Chris Hillman and Herb Pederson.....place on the real list...as they were involved with The Flying Burrito Bros., The Byrds, Desert Rose Band, Laurel Canyon Ramblers...I'm quite sure they spent a few jam sessions with the one and only Gram Parsons......

I agree with your list and no matter who is on the main stage I will be seeing Willie, how could anyone miss his performance? I have every intention to see my favorites off the main stage.

I don't agree that trashing the up and coming musicians is acceptable and I do want to see some of them as well. Remember all of your list was at one time a new singer and probably considered pop at the time.

    Willie,

What are your thoughts on Flip Flop boy Chesney producing Willie's next album?

Not always true.. Its a difference of making some money or making lots of money.. There are festivals that do not bring in the pop acts that will continue to grow.
