question about driving times
I will be flying into LAX on Friday and driving to Palm Dessert where I have found a hotel. I have never been to Cali, so I am wondering what to expect as far as how long it will take to drive in from the airport. I get in around 11 am. I also would like an idea on how long it will take to get from Palm Dessert to the festival. Thanks for any info that is shared.
Re: question about driving times
Well, LAX is about 146 miles to Indio. Going 65 mph it would take you over 2 hours. You might hit some spots of traffic so the time could range.
Palm Desert is about 12 miles.. So i would say 25 minutes or less if its all hwy driving. More if there is a lot of traffic.
Re: question about driving times
You can estimate 2 hours 45 min. to 3 hours 30 min. Depending on traffic. Too bad you can't fly into Palm Springs.
Re: question about driving times
Curious why you did not fly into Palm Springs airport or Ontario International?
What time are you landing? That also makes a HUGE difference. If anytime after 2pm on Friday, expect tons of traffic until you hit Banning area. It takes about 1 1/2-2 hours from LA to Riverside, then another 2 hours at least to Indio on a Friday afternoon. That 60/91/215 interchange is a horrible place to be in traffic hours while they are working on it.
I live in the Riverside area and when I drive to my parents in Indio, it takes us a bit over an hour, hauling butt on a good day, about 70 miles just from Riverside. (watch them cops on that 10 freeway, don't say I didn't warn ya :))
Re: question about driving times
Thanks for the info. I arrive at LAX at 10:30 am on Friday, so hopefully I can get out of LA in a reasonable amount of time. I decided to fly to LAX for two reasons. First, I couldn't find any non-stop flights from Orlando. I didn't like the idea of being on a plane almost 8 hours. Second was the price. It would have cost quite a bit more to fly anywhere other than LAX. I don't mind the extra traveling time. I have never been to CA and I hear that the drive will be awsome. Again thanks for the info.
Re: question about driving times
got any info on drive time from tucson?
Re: question about driving times
drive the 10 or 60 frwy from LA to Indio..hehehehe... not much to see but commercial bldgs and some homes and tons of cars. Best drive is down the coast, but can't get there from that, but once you hit the 10 freeway in Banning/Beaumont area it turns to desert, I love the desert. You will see the famous windmills used for electricity in the area and that you see in so many movies, some HUGE dinasours you can visit, yes they are there:eek: and thenm a couple Casinos, but that is about it.
Driving the coast or into the mountains is awesome if you get time.
Re: question about driving times
Change your ticket to Ontario International Airport in Ontario, Ca and you'll be glad you did. :D I've flown direct flight between Orlando and Ontario so I know it can be done. Once you get here it's a straight shot on the 10 East to Palm Desert-a great place to stay by the way. SoCal Freeways can be a nightmare to circumvent-this is not Orlando-and coming out of LAX can confuse you to he point where you could end up in Tijuana instead of Indio-mark my word.

Re: question about driving times
On a Friday headed from LAX to Indio, GET OUT OF LOS ANGELES ASAP !!
The Friday traffic is bad if you drive in rush hour. It can take 5 hours easily. So don't sight see in LA first.
Also, use the carpool lanes if you have 2+ people. Listen to the traffic radio, (1070 am). Usually I-10 is better than Hwy 60 - but listen for traffic accidents.
Re: question about driving times
I assume you are renting a car at LAX?
You should be good up to 2pm on Friday but as mentioned, the earlier exit the better.
I live 5 mins from LAX and have traveled out there quite a few times- easy to suicidal times:eek:
Anyhoo- Depending on which Rental Company you use and their address, you want to take the 105 east, 605 North, 10 EAST!!!!!
Noon exit and you should be good:)
When do you fly back? Sunday traffic can get brutal too since everyone is coming home from Weekend trips and Mondays, well are just down right screwed.

Re: question about driving times
Brocc means the 10 E. I still say change your ticket to Ontario-it's a part of LAX system and you won't have to change freeways. Just hop on the 10 E.:p
I think he meant "awful" Brocc!

Ok..
This for anyone flying in from LAX this year..
Arizona is about 3 1/2 hour drive in right off the 10 freeway...
Here is the deal.Take the 60 out it will dead end to the 10 east. That should cut tons of time.My sister in-law comes from Malibu that way and it is about one hour and 30 min.barring no big traffic delay.
The desert.Well depending on traffic it can take anywhere from 15min to 45 min to make it all the way to the polo area.Stay on the 10 frreway exit Jefferson then left on to 50th left tothe grounds.
Be careful sometimes they have traffic going around the polo Fields 2 and three miles out of your way. That is the crazy part.last year my neighbor who can walk their less then a half mile drove and it took her an hour to drive home one block...
So watch those crazy directional blocks.I think Jefferson to 50th was a good route last year...
The drive from LAX and Ontario really are almost the same on a Friday if you take the 60 in from L.A
Ontario and the Fontana yucaipa area are always a mess stay away from that 10...
Keep away from Hwy 111 all the out of towners use it...
Re: question about driving times
horsephotographer you are so right I was stuck in the same boat as your friend last year. I had to get to a house on 52 between jackson and monroe and we had to drive and drive because the cops at the intersection couldn't let us through even though are locals who live there.
