2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
Okay everyone - I was raised country but enjoy all types of music if the beat is good. Been known to listen to RAP, POP, DANCE, CLASSIC ROCK, OLD COUNTRY, and especially NEW COUNTRY. Love Hank Williams Jr (his LIVE album is my favorite of all-time) with the sounds of Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Travis Tritt, Garth, and Brooks & Dunn the Country I enjoy the most.
Outside of the 'Top 7' at this year's StageCoach festival, what else is there to offer? Well for guys and girls like me, here is my take on this year's lineup. To be honest, outside of the Top 7 there isn't much to offer GUY'S LIKE ME. Please don't take offense, to each their own, but for those who enjoy the same type of music I think we will be in the same boat. Many of the bands are 1960's style with a flare for the odd (poets?) and a steady dose of new one-hit wonders. Sure, if you are bored, why not check them out since you are paying for two days of music. But if you are a GUY LIKE ME, you will be checking out the scenery, looking at the vendors, or pre-flighting in the RV park for a majority of the StageCoach lineup.
BIG 7
Keith Urban
Sugarland
Billy Currington
Phil Vassar
Toby Keith
Brooks & Dunn
Jason Aldean
SATURDAY
Joey + Rory – CHEATER, CHEATER (CMT’s Can you Duet Champ) One ‘okay’ song…
Easton Corbin – I’M A LITTLE MORE COUNTRY THAN THAT (Channel Cat line makes me puke)
Merle Haggard – 60’s Icon – OKIE FROM MUSKOGEE, MAMA TRIED
Ray Price - 1960’s PLEASE RELEASE ME LET ME GO
Nick 13 – Old style country sound with a Fresh, Alternative voice…not for everyone.
BJ Thomas – 60’s and 70’s Gospel/Pop Icon: RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD
Bobby Bare – 1960’s country; Sang with Cash, Willie…i.e. your Grandparent’s country!
Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver; 1960’s Gospel / Southern Bluegrass
Baxter Black – Poet / Comedian from Western Horseman Magazine…oh yeah! (Not)
Waddie Mitchell – Poet; recites cowboy stories (are your f’ ing serious?)
Trampled by Turtles – Young, interesting, acoustic, Bluegrass; enough banjo to wet your Deliverance whistle yet new age, fun, and hip
SUNDAY
Heidi Newfield – JOHNNY & JUNE…and that’s pretty much it.
Williams Riley – Up and coming artist; COUNTRY LIVIN’, I’M STILL ME
The Oak Ridge Boys – ELVIRA, BOBBY SUE – Legend, worth a listen
Bill Anderson – 1960’s Legend, but not my cup of tea (See Little Jimmy Dickens)
Little Jimmy Dickens – Legend, 90 years old. (See Bill Anderson)
The Avett Brothers – FREAKING HORRIBLE!!! Songs are terrible and far from country!
Firefall – STRANGE WAY! 1970’s Rock, some great songs! JUST REMEMBER I LOVE YOU
Chuck Mead – Could be fun; older country sound with fun lyrics and songs…Who knows.
Mary Gauthier – Folk Rock; I am thinking Janis Joplin type…
Carlene Carter – I FELL IN LOVE, EVERY LITTLE THING
Truth & Salvage Co. – Great new sound, in line with Dave Matthews. Worth a listen.
SUMMARY: I would pay $50 to see ANY of the top 7. The remainder is very weak. If they wanted to go old school they should have continued on the line of Firefall and looked at more 70's rock groups. After all, new rock is dead (now Alternative) and country is sounding more like classic rock with each passing year. KID ROCK ANYONE? Even if you know the bands from the 1960's, you rarely listen OR hear their music. AVERAGE GUY SAYS: Break out the Poker Chips, sleep in and relax, walk the grounds, and don't worry about getting your money's worth as long as you have a good time.

Re: 2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
Clap, Clap,Clap... well said... I agree
Re: 2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
Thanks for the run-down of the side acts.
With few exceptions, I didn't know anything about most of them.
I'd appreciate anyone else's thoughts on these bands/acts, too!
Re: 2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
I actually think I agree with a lot of your rundown (but I like Joey + Rory, saw them with ZBB, they were great live). Didn't realize who some of the artists were, so thanks!
Re: 2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
WOW!! That Was A Mouthful!! Wore Me Out Just Readin It....But Pretty Much True As The Bible Itself :)
Re: 2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
Wow...You are one smart cookie and took the words out of my mouth! Thank goodness I have a seat...cuz this year the mane stage is where I will be for the most part. I wonder why they chose this line up? Would rather see repeats than most of these (wait..Waddie Mitchel, hasnt he been there every year?)
Definately agree, and most of the people I chat with, feel we are going for the camping party. Love seeing my friends I have made at SC. Just wish I was as excited about the line up.
But I WILL be at Merle!!

I even considered saving my money this year and skipping it because of the less than desireable line up. Definately a camping/party driven trip.
Re: 2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
Nick 13 is the lead singer of the Psychobilly band, Tiger Army. Definitely not a one-hit wonder, as the band has been around for 14 years, has a massive, loyal following that sells out shows around the country.
While Tiger Army is more rockabilly, 50's, and punk, Nick 13 has done a western song on each Tiger Army album.
He eventually decided to do a full solo album in traditional 50's style country. If you appreciate the roots of country music, check his set out.
Here is a great article on what his music will be like and heard at Stagecoach:

Oh sick! I've seen his solo sets and they are great. However, Nick 13's solo music will blow's Mike's away.
Re: 2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
Like I said: fresh, alternative voice but not for everyone...
Love the classic guitar sound but still not sold - curiosity factor not that strong for GUYS N' GIRLS LIKE ME.

Are you in the band by chance, or just a big fan?

Okay, dood. No need to be rude. I was just adding info about an artist for people to learn about him and check his set out if they want.
And, sorry, you're not much into the western culture if you're not aware that there are cowboy poets and storytellers in the world. It's pretty cool that this festival has a wide range of artists of all kinds for people to experience.
I mean come on, this is California, not the midwest. So exposure to new kinds of artistry, like cowboy poets, is unique for people living in So Cal.
Re: 2010 LINEUP - AVERAGE GUY'S TAKE
Learn somethin new... I had no idea Firefall was gonna be there. I was raised on Firefall. Wish I could bring my dad for just that set.

I see a fight a'brewin' for SC! We can set up a ring and everything! Who wants to be a ring girl? Make sure to wear something skimpy!
