Re: The Keith Urban Thread
How ironic that Natalie wears a F.U.T.K. tee shirt and her career has ground to halt. Have you guys heard the new Courtyard Hounds CD which is the Dixie Chicks without the one that thought "she" was the star? I bought it the other day and it is excellant, well written and Emily should have singing lead all along. I would like to see in the lineup at some point for next years Stagecoach.
Re: The Keith Urban Thread
I will never listen/support the Dixie Chicks.
Re: The Keith Urban Thread
Proves a MAJOR point...Politics need to stay out of music. I want to hear your music PERIOD. If you want to get involved in politics then do it privately by giving money or running for office.

But sooo many artists do it. Toby Keith, Dixie Chicks, B&D, lots of em do it. I think the backlash is towards artists whose veiws you don't agree with. I'm probably one of the few who still really like the Dixie Chicks, and wasn't that offended with their opinions. I may not share them, it may not have been "right" in mine or other peoples eyes, but it takes more than that for me to get offended I guess.

Re: The Keith Urban Thread
No one forces anyone to listen to an artist's politics. Not one of you were at the show where Natalie uttered her remarks, so what exactly was forced on you? Unless you were standing (or sitting, which the majority of the SC fanatics would know better than standing) in the same venue where she uttered her personal remarks, then ....
I decided to sleep during Toby Keith's set at SC. That was my decision. His politics can be whatever the hell they want to be, but he should be respectful enough to keep the exploiting of the U.S. Troops out of his little redneck marketing plan. Likewise, I was on the road driving home when Keith Urban's set was taking place. Both were lackluster headliners in my opinion and yet you haven't seen me complaining about them (or politics).
Stop blacklisting. This is supposed to be a free country. Act like it.

Wow...so, tell me, did you approve of Sugarland? Did you approve of their "subliminal" polital clothing accessories? It brought tears to everyone around me when Toby THANKED OUR TROOPS! He did NOT exploit them! He reminded us that we need to remember their sacrifices and hard work. Many artists do that. You can believe that war is wrong or believe it is right, but you should always respect, and thank those that are serving our country..thanking is NOT political! DC's remarked were thrown all over the country scene and news, NO not forced down my throat, but it was posted everywhere. Yes.... I turned the channel after I heard the story and what happened.
And YES I DO SEE YOU complaining about politics, I see the pot calling the kettle black, you are defending they should be able to do so, just as much as we are defending we don't want to hear it....yet YOU are the "right" one? Little two faced to me. You insult artists "with their little redneck plan"...geesh, you are so two faced!! You must work for, or are married to the DC's!!!!
You must not like many country singers, since almost every single one of them has written or sung a political/soldier/war song.
Re: The Keith Urban Thread
Riddle me this: if Toby Keith is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO patriotic, why didn't he enlist in a branch of the United States Armed Forces? Why doesn't he? Exactly. I don't want to hear any empty hillbilly rhetoric from talentless deebags.
I don't watch domestic "news", otherwise known as 'celebrity' worship of the week, so no, I have no right to complain about their politics. That douche TK is running his mouth about troops this and troops that, on stage at shows I've been at, when he hasn't served a single day in uniform, nor done a single thing for any troops I know of, and I'm supposed to respect that? Someone who unrightfully critiques the patriotism of other good U.S. Americans? The Dixie Chicks have done more for the U.S. troops by advocating for peace than a phillistine like Keith will ever be able to do.
I like plenty of good country singer-songwriters, but I don't like imbeciles. Toby Keith is the latter, hardly the former. Thank you and

Postscript. Sugarland was the best performance I saw at Stagecoach. Outstanding.

Where else but SC are you going to get these Big names, all in one place for two days for 99 bucks plus fees. Most people pay that just for Keith Urban alone...I'm just sayin

Tell that to Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Woody Guthrie, etc... Hell, even Jimmy Buffet has some politically themed songs.
If a musician is an artist, he/she cares about the state of the world around him/her. Or at the very least has a viewpoint about it.
A mark of intelligence is being able to see both sides of an issue at once. People that started hating The Dixie Chicks' music because of an ill-timed remark made by one member in regard to one issue seem to lack the capacity to objectively listen to alternate viewpoints without resorting to the us vs. them mentality. It is this way of thinking that is destroying any chance of debate and cooperation we may have left in making this country as great as it can be.
I didn't agree with Maines making her statement in front of a foreign crowd but she's certainly entitled to her opinion. Just like Toby Keith can rail on about booting the ass of foreigners (even if it means civilian casualties). I own records by both of these artists and enjoy them both. It is listening to differing viewpoints that makes musical artistry interesting.
Of course, if debating opinions is too much for some people to discuss in a rational manner, there's always going to be another Carrie Underwood record coming out soon.
I love party music as much as the next guy, but telling musicians to shut up about their politics is ridiculous. Especially if they address their beliefs in song.
The individual needs to follow the art. And sometimes art is messy.
