I've never been to the area before and was hoping someone could offer up some advice on where to or not to stay. Looking for something cheap and cheerful that is safe and close to the venue.

Thanks!!

There are many places to stay in the area depending on how much you want to spend, and how far you want to drive. I would suggest checking out a AAA Tour Book for Southern California, and looking for the Indio, La Quinta, and Palm Desert areas. Since this whole area is a golf community (home of the Bob Hope Desert Classic), as well as a polo area, there are many hotels to choose from. The AAA book would give you a good idea of the cost and the quality of the hotel that you are looking for. It is high season right now, as we get a lot of "snowbirds" during the winter months, but sometime around May the prices may go down a little because of the heat. I would also guess that when the Coachella Fest comes to town, the prices may go up, so you may expect the same with this festival. Another option may be to go to the AAA Tour Book, and then venture onto one of the Priceline, Hotwire, etc... websites to see what the price difference is as well. Another suggestion is the Indian Palms Country Club down the street from the polo grounds (within a mile maybe/walking distance). It has a nice hotel with a pool in it's gated Country Club. Their prices aren't bad, but they won't put up with roudy behavior. Also heading toward La Qunita off of Ave. 50 (Calle Tampico & Desert Club Dr.) there is a brand new Embassy Suites Hotel. There are lots of great places to eat within walking distance of that hotel (from very casual to pricey). That's about 3 miles from the polo grounds. Good luck!

There's a lot of places to stay. I always stay in Palm Springs, because Indio isnt' so nice.

Go to Expedia.com and look there. Just type in Indio in the search section and it'll show you an area map and a whole bunch of hotels.

Good luck. I was out there last Wednesday. Went to book room at super8 (closest to polo grounds) booked up. Found rooms at Travel Lodge 2.2 miles from event. Plan to walk from hotel as the word I got was in the past events, it could take a hour in a car to travel the last 2 miles in. Oh and all the roads in are being repaved. They are down to one lane each way and will not be done by May.

Thanks for all the help. I had a feeling the last mile or so would take some time. Good to know the roads are under contruction as well. Outside of the Travel lodge, any other idea's on hotels within walking distance? Sounds like that might be the best bet.

Countrygurl....just a thought for next year. Some of the other festivals I've been to have included a VIP parking area with a different way in from the rest of the general public when you purchase VIP tickets. It's a nice touch...not sure if the venue could accomodate...but something to think about.

Royal Plaza Inn had rooms for $99, (760) 347-0911 but I think you can rent by the hour if you know what I mean. I would bring my own bedding, but it is only a couple of miles away. Travel Lodge $67 (760) 342-0882. The Fair grounds are about a mile and a half from Polo Grounds. Don't understand why they don't use their parking lots and shuttle in on trams. I only saw limited parking close to event, but maybe I missed it. Looked like little make shift dirt lots next to event used for parking.

if your willing to pay some money might want to look up a rental home!! they may give a deal for the weekend. if hotels are booked that might be an option to look at!!

I live in the area as previously posted, and recommended looking at the AAA Tour Book for descriptions of hotels, and what you are willing to pay and type of accomodations you are interested in. I did click on some of the hotel websites posted on this site, and was shocked to see how much the hotels in the area have already increased their prices for this festival weekend! You might do better as suggested by the previous post, renting a condo in the area and splitting it with friends. They usually charge a cleaning fee, and security deposit, but but some of the prices of hotels listed are more than double their usual cost. You may also want to check the Desert Sun newspaper (a local paper) online under "Vacation Rentals". Some places may be willing to rent their house or condo for a weekend??? I wish I had an extra room to rent out!!

Royal Plaza is not a good place to stay?? I find this rather disconcerting as we've booked there. The rate is rather more than $99 too.

I'd suggest staying in Palm Desert in either the Best Western or any of the 3 surrounding hotels just off of Hwy 111 @ Deep Canyon.

That location will place you about 15 to 20 minutes from the venue and a straight shot east on 111 to Jefferson, South, to Avenues 49, 50 or 52, east to the venue.

For future stays I recommend the international lodge in palm Desert.
That place does not look like a Luxury resort, but each "condo" is owned privately and decorated, furnished, full fridge, stove, dishes etc... Even detergent to wash your clothes. This place was sooo great!
Definately a good place to stay..... high suggest it.......

The closest I could find was Palm Desert 30 mins away for $200.00 per night.

The Motel 6 in Palm Desert on Washington and Varner isn't bad...cleaner than the Indio one which is supposed to be prostitute heaven...plus it was only about 15 minutes away last year...think we paid about 100 a night back in November

I have stayed at prostitute heaven the last 4 years
It's nothing but full of Stagecoach peeps during that weekend. I did get flashed one year when a chick came outside when I was going to the lobby to get my morning coffee. She lifted her skirt and screamed KIDDDD ROCKKKKK

Rose - I wonder if they put that in next year's brochure under "amenities"? LOL???

We're staying at the Hilton Homewood Suites on Washington. Super nice place. Just stayed there for Jason at Agua Caliente and loved it.
