View Full Version : A few things that may need to be addressed for 2013

1. The gate check staff at the ADA entrance should be smacked! Each day we were required to open all our bags, empty out contents so they could do a "thorough" search. It was a fiasco! No one was consistent with what was "allowed". We were patted down, so they could "find" what was hidden. I was shocked how the Staff Pro people treated those in wheelchairs, with walkers, and on crutches. My daily vitamins and meds were in the amber container, each days worth. I was told they looked suspicious and to throw them out! I said they were all I had for the weekend, the gate supervisor sensed a potential problem and advised me that if I wanted to enter, I must throw them out. Then I was told to spray my sunscreen lotion on me to make sure it wasn't alcohol. They didn't know the difference between a mister and a spray bottle, a parasol and an umbrella, they didn't know the difference between outside food (meal?) and a few baggies of snacks. Some let wagons and coolers through, and some screeners did not. The confusion with gate time opening created a never-ending line of cars going in circles at the entrance waiting for the 11 am opening, but the next day the gates opened at 9am. They need correct training, common sense, plus a lesson in respect to those with disabilities.

Dang! It seems that they treated ADA people worse than regular GA people. That sucks!

always have to wonder if someone who was entering via that route earlier tried to get something past, thereby ruining it for everyone else the rest of the weekend. and security searches are always inconsistent, it seems. some take their jobs way more seriously than others. they also sometimes keep it inconsistent on purpose, so people who are trying to sneak something in can't profile who is being lenient and who is not. pretty much the same at any airport, some get the full search, some walk right on through.
and in regards to food, no outside food means no outside food, whether it be a meal or a snack. a majority of venues i've been to are like this and it is addressed in the faq.
in regards to meds, they always say to keep medication in their marked bottles. how does security know if you are smuggling in something illegal mixed with something legal? if you got pulled over by a cop somewhere and had a bottle of pills it could be an issue, too. especially if one of them is some form of narcotic medication. what i do is save an old bottle with that prescription to keep on me or in the car with a few of the pills in if i need to.
"ALL medical prescriptions and accompanying names on those containers will need to match the person's proper ID"
really gotta blame the people in the past that were caught sneaking stuff in via various methods.
believe me, i have issues with security when i am out there, too. this year i basically had walking pneumonia at coachella. was leaving a set late one night and all of a sudden a walkway that had been open to go backstage all day was closed off. told security my situation, that i was sick as shit, had a lung disease, and could not walk the long way back there that was now required. they still wouldn't budge. so then told them i am on the lung transplant list, my lungs are functioning at 35%, please let me through. still nothing. so ten i just started to try to push my through, telling them i could not go the long way due to my health and to let me through now...now i need to go to medical. finally a supervisor heard and said to let me through. these security people are not allowed to think for themselves, it's "i was told to do this, so i'm doing this". and many are off duty millitary, so when given an order they don't budge. for better...or worse. i was ready to get in a fight over it, though.

They also required me to throw away my mints, which was the first I've ever heard of that. Not one other person around me had that same issue and it was super frustrating. The staff in the ADA check in were rude, inconsistent and offensive in their actions and accusations. I've never had to throw mints away before and that wasn't announced prior to our search.

Most days GA security was just as expected, then on Sunday they got crazy. I saw some girl on a bike though, is that allowed?

I'm shocked to here the people entering the ADA parking entrance had such a horrible experience! My husband and I were commenting and praising the experience we had this year...We have attended the Stagecoach festival every year and each year has in our eyes improved. This year we were unable to purchase our tickets as they sold out while on hold as many others I'm sure. So we ended up purchasing them via craigslist san diego. We were sceptical but had high hopes everything was lagit (paid face value for admission, and $375 <----way above face value for car camping pass) But it was all worth it! Everyone from the vehicle search were curtious and respectfull, however confused as to where to direct us for camping. After that issue was settled we were welcomed and directed by the Lot 5 manager to a spot closest to the venue(sorry I don't remember his name. The young lady (Lindsey Peck) at the info booth was most helpful to us the entire 5 days we were there, she assisted us in ADA shuttles (Ryan who took care of getting our ADA Access bands and shuttling us to the venue when needed), I thought I had lost my smart phone and she was quick to radio lost and found and she checked several times, (we found the phone monday while packing up to leave in our tent...lol)
The first day there we left San Diego pouring down rain to arrive to a sunny but windy Indio....There were two guys patrolling on bikes stopped and offered to help us put up our EZ UP. Just to add once we were in the venue the staff volunteer on the ramps to the left of the stage (again I forgot his name) was Awesome he helped get wheelchairs on and off the ramps in a timely manner and he was constantly jumping over the railing to retrieve dropped items. I do apologize for not remembering the names of the many people that made our weekend a wonderful experience. Thank You All :)

To be honest, that was the only headache we had. The rest of the event went smoothly and so many things were improved from previous years. It wasn't enough to ruin the weekend, but it put a damper on the beginning of the day :( Hopefully they can have some more experienced security working that gate in the future or else there could be some serious issues.

how were they disrespectful?

The staff searching bags were all very inexperienced and had no idea what was allowed and what wasn't. They would ask one another what to do and there was no consistency. The person next to me didn't even have to open their backpack, but I had to take every single item out of mine. One person got through with a full water bottle and then another had to pour theirs out. Some let in food (snacks, chips, candy, etc) and I had to throw my new package of mints away. Still in the wrapper, might I add. They were rude and short with us and barked orders. This was an entrance that had to have an ADA placard and accompanying paperwork from the DMV, plus ADA wristbands. It wasn't a general entrance line and that should eliminate some of the headaches but it seemed to be more of a hassle than any other entrance.

It seemed they staff at the ADA entrance was "in training". While in line waiting, someone would walk by telling us to be prepared for a search, then advising us to "get ready" the gates are opening. Everyone would pack up , fold up their chairs, throw away the food and beverages they were eating, move up 2 feet, then wait. Out came the chairs again and started all over again. It was difficult for those with equipment and challenges to keep readjusting.
The staff at the entrance would "bark" orders to stand here, turn around, empty your purse etc. When I said ok, my meds aren't labeled, my mistake I'll take them to my car, they said no, not allowed, and if I chose to leave the line, I'd have to go to the end of the line . I told them the meds were ok the day before.
I have difficulty accepting the excuse that some people may have spoiled it or tainted the way the screeners view us. They were not trained to screen appropriately. The didn't know what to look for, and how to do it properly.

that's because they are working for 3 days and that's pretty much it, they have to learn on the clock. it's like that at every festival i have ever been to. ever. one day you get an awesome person checking you the next it's some guy who wanted to be a cop but could never qualify so you give him a yellow shirt and all of a sudden he is off on his power trip. you get people that respond to an ad and get thrown into the fire. sure it sucks, but if you go in expecting it then it is much easier to deal with. hasn't changed in the 20 or so years i have been attending various fests, don't expect it to anytime soon.

I guess there is an expectation that people working at an entrance geared entirely toward ADA guests would have a bit more training, respect and decency than they showed.

They still need to hire more women for the entrances. Friday was so bad that the security people working the gates said screw it and stopped the male female lines. At the main entrance for day parking people women seemed to outnumber men 4:1. There were times when the men had absolutely no line. Saturday and Sunday were better but still the men had some empty lines. They need to put signs up on the tents to let people know which lines are for female and which are for men. The same thing happened last year. There seemed to be more women working, but it still was not enough.

Our ADA experience was pretty possitive, and am going to write directly to Goldenvoice to thank them.
We only had to use the ramp one night,( because with the new standing room this year I did not get knocked over as I did last year with people trying to crowd in).... and Austin, who was at the ramp and, who was in a wheelchair, was truly concerned for peoples' welfare. The staff had to constantly juggle wheelchairs as people came and went in a narrow area. I, too, wish I had thought to get names so I could pass on their kind efforts to their department.
I did have one problem. the first night I was told I had to have an escort in, even though I am not in a chair, since I had an ADA access bracelet on. I was sent to the customer service station , and there I was told they were just unaware of new situations and offered to come and deal with it for me. When finally being allowed to go in, the staff were not going to let me in with my inhaler because it did not come in a package with my name on it.
I am sure as each new situation arises, staff will be educated to each exception to a standard rule. I was please just to see all the efforts Goldenvoice DID implement.

They also need more water stations. I was only able to find two of them on the entrance side of the field. With the grounds being so big, they need to have more, especially with the heat. There should have been refill stations on the far side of the field near the food tents. I don't think it should be that hard to have them outside of every restroom area.

Tent camping needed more than one shower trailer - the ladies line was 3 hrs long every day and the security yelled at the shower guy for cutting off the guys line and allowing ladies to shower in there for a few hours. It was pretty insane . . . . also I absolutely hated the new location - I would like the original tent camping location back. It was 100% better!!! The other locaton had nice big trees that you could go hang out under and the ground was level! Walking and carying stuff in or out, even with a wagon was horrible. Also on monday morning when I am walking back in the camping area with an EMPTY wagon - why do I have to walk all the way around and thru security!!!! So annoying.

I had issues getting back in after we left lot 5 to pick up ice. Security implied that we would be allowed back but when we arrived with 60lbs of melting ice we were told that we would have to walk around. Eventually someone from our site came out to take the ice and security wouldn't let them back in. Eventually we got it through, it was just ice after all, but we had to walk back through security at the other gate with the beer. Not too big of an issue.

It was almost comical if that securioty guard hadn't been such a royal arse! We had I think it was 100 lbs of melting ice and a broken cart. Also a 30 pack of beer with the handle breaking. And they literally wanted us to walk a MILE back around when we had already been to that end and the security guard over there was DIRECTING people to the front of car camping. And then they made car camping (Saturday) an entrance to the venue. I don't get too upset because I EXPECT the security guards to have wrong information at this point. But I AM glad we got the ice in!

I agree with the problem at the gate. How could they have only 2 of the gates with women to frisk? We were all squished into 2 lines then they said go ahead and go in the line with a guy, they were bringing women. Then they said no there werent any women available. It was very unorganized. The problem with no water to be brought in was borderline dangerous. If you didnt bring a few hundred dollars, you were in trouble. Also they need some shade somewhere. Last, why arent the parking lots marked better? I dont like walking all over, sunburned, with blisters on my feet, and beat from the long day, looking for my car. I wasnt alone either. I had a friend in the handicapped parking that would of taken me to my car in Lot 1 (freaking far to walk) but even though I talked to a supervisor, they would not allow it. WTF? It was fun, every year but brutal, and soooo expensive.

and in the vip area, the security staff would hand you ice cold bottles of water (for free) if you looked like you needed it! i spent a lot on water but it was ice cold and worth it compared to having a hangover the next day....

We were among the many that were not able to get camping spots this year. Don't even get me started at how upset many of us were about THAT. This was the first year we had to camp elsewhere. Getting there & getting home was a NIGHTmare. The walk too forever and getting a cab or finding a shuttle was RIDICULOUS! I do NOT want to go through this again next year!!!!

Overall my experience in car camping was awesome. I ended up not drinking during the weekend except for bottle after bottle of water! My only complaint was the distance between everything and now I understand why people bring bikes! The group we were camping with were awesome. Karena, Rachel, James, Yvonne, Nick, Jeremy, Brittney, Kathy, and all the others that right at the moment I can't remember your names. I hated leaving on Sunday but it is what it is. Thank you all for making a new experience one that I will remember forever. I still say that Country Music Fans are the Best and that weekend proved it over and over to me!

OK... Here is my complaint list... Hope it helps.
1. The parking control still really doesnt have it together. Each person only knows his location and the comunication between them is not good. When my wife showed up on friday afternoon, i told her of the "drop off" area (lot 4a i think) I said just tell them your dropping off stuff for camping in ED1 and you will later park in the companion lot. (like others were doing). I stood there waiting with the wagon for about 20min after she called and she was on madison and 50th. So she called me back and said they forced her to park in the companion lot because they were fillling spots and there was no such thing as a drop off area. Needless to say i had to drag her crap an extra 3/4 mile because parking staff. When i finally met my wife, I said to her... "OK.... just so you know, this walk is about 2 miles long and will be the worst part of your weekend. Everything past this walk is going to be aswome!!!" Solution... Have the staff drive around in a golf cart for 20 min with someone and actually get familiar with the property. I feel like after one day there, i know the area better than the people who work there! Every year I end up educating the "staff" somehow.
2. Another service that could be added to the camping/RV section would be a "handyman". Someone with tools and a sign that could go around and help people fix their stuff. I ended up helping about three neighbors things with some basic tools. They were extreemly gratefull and their weekend would have been a lot worse without it. I called it my good deed for the day and ended up fixing two RV water pumps, One ladder golf game, and a battery powered wheelchair.
3. Speed limit for golf carts. Some of these guys with golf carts would friken whiz by just inches from our camp. Kinda scary when your not paying attention. I screemed at one guy to slow down and he stopped and started to back up like he was gunna yell at me, then 25 of our neighbors (one with a kid) all stood up and he put it in forward real quick and never came back.
4. Water down the side isles... They did good at watering down the center isle, but the side isles got a lot of traffic too and lots of dust was created by foot and vehicle traffic.
5. ICE CREAM TRUCKS!!! Hey, heres an idea... Wanna make some money!!! how bout a couple ice cream trucks cruising around the campgrounds. If I see one next year, i want free ice cream for the idea!!!
6. Finally, my entrance security story... When I got up to line they told me to empty my pockets on that little table. So i did... Camera, phone, can of chew, pack of smokes, lighter, cash, wifes phone, and folded up map. I turned around for the backwards frisk and when i turned back around my stuff was gone. In a very deap and extreemly loud voice i shouted "wheres my f*cking sh!t!!!!" to the guy who just frisked me... He was completely scared and didnt know what just happened. Just then the next guy in line pointed at the ground and then pointed at the next security gaurd and said that he picked up the table when my back was turned and dumped everything off to clear it for his next person in line. I looked at him and said "what the f*ck where you thinking" and he just stared at me and said "im sorry". I told him to pick up everything from the ground and count my money out infront of me before i move on. By this time i got the attention of the head security and was in the middle of explaining everything to them when they handed me all my stuff in one giant handfull and told me to move along. I laughed it off and walked past them and very carefully checked all my stuff. I still dont know what that guy was thinking when he saw a table full of personal stuff and decided to dump it on the ground. Oh well... I got all my stuff back and that was the worst of my problems all weekend, which is pretty damn small.

Make the ground softer so I don't end up with blisters on my feet...again

Kuzn edy, I agree with watering down the rv camping isle from time to time. I thought they did in years past. An ice cream truck would be big bucks!!! It might be worth getting into the business just for the weekend.
My pet peeve and it happens every year is don't hire some fool who has never driven a motorhome or pulled a trailer and likely may not even have a valid CDL try and tell me how to back up into a spot. I watched these guys jack up the entire parking process all morning long. Just point the way and let us do the work. After waiting 2 hours just to get into the campsite with "employees" not having a clue how to control traffic, or get rvs through the security check point in a fair consistant manner, PLEASE don't get in the way of me swinging into a spot and cracking open a cold one.
I do have to say, I loved the standing room in the venue, it really did keep the too intoxicated and late, headling groupees from cramming in. I think all were happy with that.
If I had to chose one thing to fix, it would be the ticket buying process this year. It really sucked the most!!!

oh, I forgot to mention I could do without the female security screening person (from camping into the venue) who thought it was ok to lift and squeze my ta tas!! None of the other screeners did that, this was a bad apple for sure. Thanks to the girl behind me who saw and told her how inappropriate that was and even told the so called supervisor behind the line. In the end nothing was done but it was nice that someone spoke up.

I too had the female security person feel a little too high and firmly in the chest area. That was weird and I was too surprised to say anything. And I'm in the AARP age bracket.... Really, what was I going to try to hide there?

I also am in the AARP bracket and was lucky enough that no one fondled me because I had lots in there. haha
Sorry girls, I had to post.

Yes, awesome to meet you, I'm sorry we didn't get to spend much time together and that you had to leave early!

OK... Here is my complaint list... Hope it helps.
And you fixed our bikes! :D

My two complaints:
Make the ground softer so I don't end up with blisters on my feet...again
Either put tracking devices on my friends or give me a personal security guard while inside the venue so I can find everyone. Although I do always have fun meeting new people inside to hang out with.
Hahahaha! Were you not there when I was writing "A6" with a Sharpie on the inside of everyones arms, in case they got lost in the venue? I totally did that, LOL!

oh, I forgot to mention I could do without the female security screening person (from camping into the venue) who thought it was ok to lift and squeze my ta tas!! None of the other screeners did that, this was a bad apple for sure. Thanks to the girl behind me who saw and told her how inappropriate that was and even told the so called supervisor behind the line. In the end nothing was done but it was nice that someone spoke up.

I *believe* it's illegal unless they are an actual officer of the law, to perform that in depth of a search. I think that all security needs to be informed of this.

haha! My friend bought me a dog tag from Petsmart that read: "If found, please call (her number)" for the weekend because I got lost last year and was too drunk to find my friends lol (wore it the whole weekend! lol)

I'm sure I was already lost by then. Please buy me a dog tag for next year, that's a brilliant idea!

Should be two services. One "handyman" and the other a bona fide mechanic. I am neither but was fixing awnings and generators more than I would have liked. They should have a tent in the camping area, like they do for the Locksmith.

Forgot about that. I'm sure your man was stoked to use that little racer seat the rest of the weekend!
It was actually the same allen wrench to fix the wheelchair. These guys were in the center isle sweating their asses off trying to work on his chair and people were passing him left and right. I saw them from my camp and walked out to see what I could do. First pushed him in the shade then grabbed some tools. Two minutes later he was rollin again. even though he had severe MS, I could see the happiness in his face when he was fixed. That made my whole weekend right there! I shook my head in disgust to the trailer of cowbro's that was ten feet away doing nothing.

We had an awesome time at Eldorado 2 RV area in the front row.
the only thing needed was a wooden dance floor like last year. It was sooooo
dusty on the dance floor it was hard to breathe........lDJ was great.....

I would say that this year's experience was better than last year. Last year was out of control. Yes, I know it's a concert. I agree with the security inconsistencies, but I don't know how hard their bosses stressed to them different things and they don't want to lose their job.
They did need a water station closer to the main stage.
Overall it was a great show and great time.

No, I marked everyone while we were still at car camping, so they'd find us later. Although Keebzie never did find us, lol.

When finally being allowed to go in, the staff were not going to let me in with my inhaler because it did not come in a package with my name on it.
wow i am sorry that all this happened to you.....
i really don't remember having many problems with the security, but there was one instance - i believe it was the first night. I was camping directly across the dirt road from Lot 5 (or whatever Lot car camping was in) on someone's private property in their backyard. I had the wristband to prove that i was camping there and all that. I literally could walk from my campsite over to Lot 5 and then get into the polo fields from there. I had arranged with some other campers there to meet at a certain location and we'd walk back to the campsite together each night after the show (i was at Stagecoach alone and was thinking about my safety walking through the parking lots at midnight each night all by myself). We got to the end of Lot 5 where security had it all blocked off. We literally could see the driveway to the private property JUST on the other side of the security barricade, and we showed the guards our wristbands and all that. They wouldn't let us pass, saying that we had to go ask the police to let us through. The police told us to ask Stagecoach Security. Stagecoach Security told us to walk down to the opposite end of Lot 5 and we might be able to get out that way. OK first of all, it was pitch black down that way, it's midnight, and we're 4 girls who don't even know if we CAN get out that way, when we can SEE our driveway from where we were standing. It took one of us pulling out our cell phone and telling security we were gonna call the resident so he could come out and talk to them before security said "oh okay" and let us through. The following nights, we had no issues....
i also had Benadryl in my purse for my allergies (which was in the original box), and my inhaler (which was NOT in the original case, was just floating around in my purse), and had no problem getting those in. I have to have the inhaler with me because when i get allergies, i usually need to use the inhaler to help me breathe. It's not as if i could've left the inhaler at my tent offsite!!

Is there a specific area for people with physical disabilities close to the stages? This will be our first time and we don't know what to expect for someone with crutches and a knee injury. What about wheel chair access? What about companions to a disabled person?

The ADA parking area fills up QUICK. I've heard people line-up early for that parking lot. After it's full then you are in the general day parking lots and it's quite a hike.
Copied and pasted from the ADA section...
Stagecoach Country Music Festival provides wheelchair and companion areas. Please see the festival map or contact the nearest event staff worker. To gain access to a wheelchair riser you must obtain a wristband from the Access Service Centers.

I got section 1 VIP this year because it was so horrendous with the handicapped situation last year. It cost me a
fortune but hopefully it will be much better. Handicapped stuff last year was a flippin mess.
