When it came time to work on the lineup of the 2008 Stagecoach festival, the stars aligned, literally.
That's how Paul Tollett, principal of organizer Goldenvoice, explained snagging the reunited duo the Judds to play the event, which will take place May 3 and 4 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio.
"I think it's just good timing," he said.
Tim McGraw is one of the country superstars in the 2008 Stagecoach festival lineup.
Tollett said the Judds had heard about last year's festival (he's still trying to find out from whom), and agreed to do the show.
But the Judds won't be alone in the superstar power of the concert. Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, George Jones and Dwight Yoakam are also on the bill, which will host more than 40 performers.
"That sounds like an awesome lineup," said Bill Thomas, owner of the Brandin' Iron Saloon, which hosts country-music acts and dancing in San Bernardino.
Trace Adkins is among nearly 40 acts announced for Stagecoach.
He said he was looking forward to seeing Trace Adkins, who has played at the Brandin' Iron, as well as Carrie Underwood.
Thomas attended Stagecoach last year and said he planned to make a repeat trip.
"I enjoyed it thoroughly," he said, noting the open venue of the Empire Polo Field is a good atmosphere for the concert.
"You could move around and not feel like you were stuck in one place," Thomas said, talking about moving between the four stages.
Tollett said the variety of the lineup is one of the festival's highlights.
"It's not just one type of country music," he said, noting bluegrass legends such as Ralph Stanley and Earl Scruggs to contemporary artists such as Underwood and the old-school types including George Jones.
Tickets for the festival go on sale Friday and children 14 and younger get in free.
"This is a family event. Don't be afraid to bring your kids," Tollett said.
