it's only for people in the area of the festival, specific zip codes. must have proof of residency and only 1 pass per person. article below doesn't mention stagecoach, but it is part of deal, too.

Desert residents east of Indian Wells will have an additional chance to purchase general admission passes to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the Goldenvoice promoters announced today.

The festival will be held April 13-15 and April 20-22 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.

One thousand general admission passes for each festival weekend have been designated for residents in La Quinta, Indio and other east valley communities to purchase for $326, including all fees. Only one pass per person will be available for each weekend of the April events with proof of residency. The offer extends to those residing in zip codes 92201, 92203, 92236, 92241, 92253 and 92274.

Festival Passes will be available for purchase in person at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. or while supplies last.

Tickets are non-transferable and proof of residency must be shown in the form of a California drivers license or ID card. Once processed, purchasers will receive a receipt with complete pick up instructions. Pick up will take place at a designated location prior to each event and original purchaser must show ID in order to pick up festival pass.

That's not fair, I really want to go. They should have more passes printed for everyone not just people in the area.

Haha, I really need to blow this sign up and post it in my son's room. All I ever hear out of my 6 year old is "IT'S.NOT.FAAAAAAIR!!!!!" repeatedly. Makes me laugh but I don't know how to explain to him how brushing his teeth at bedtime doesn't warrant an "it's not fair".

well, since the people in that area are the ones that have to deal with their town being overrun by festival goers it seems pretty fair to me. gotta scratch backs if you want yours scratched in return.

ALL of the tickets are "NON-TRANSFERABLE". yet people are buying and selling them all over the internet!! So, What is the diff here and how are they going to check once you get the wristband??

Ignore the rules. Buy one and see for yourself.

because with this it is will call only and the way will call worked last year was you went to the tennis gardens, showed your i.d., and they put the wristband on tightly right then and there.

Do you think we would need to go there hours in advance to avoid a huge line?

It might be a good idea. Though Coachella will probably be more popular that Stagecoach. This has never been done before, so one can only speculate.

I've picked up SC tickets & wristbands via will call in the past during the "ticketmaster" years, lines were short and went pretty darn fast (except one year, 09? VIP wristbands arrived an hour after gates opened and the lines were really bad).

Wonder what it will be like with Frontgate in charge???

Local music fans seize last opportunity for Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival passes

Indio — Melissa Ray spent much of this past week anticipating her last chance to buy a pass to the 2012 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The event's promoter, Goldenvoice, is selling 1,000 passes to east Coachella Valley residents today for each Coachella weekend and the Stagecoach country music festival in April.

Both events sold out earlier this month, much to the chagrin of the 17-year-old Bermuda Dunes resident.

But when the extra batch of tickets was announced, the teen began planning.

To make sure she gets a pass today, Melissa got in line Friday and camped — along with dozens of others — overnight outside the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio, where the tickets go on sale today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Her mom arrived at the fairgrounds at 8a.m. Friday and held the first spot until Melissa finished class at La Quinta High School.

About 1 p.m., Melissa's mom passed the spot to her daughter who, with 21 hours to go before the tickets would go on sale, began her countdown.

“I'm just really tired from finals, so I'm probably going to sack out,” Melissa said Friday. “The adrenaline will make time go by faster.”

She and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Indio resident Michael Valenzuela, were joined by scores of other hopeful ticket-seekers in a scene reminiscent of the determined bargain-hunters who lined up outside department stores across the country in the hours before Black Friday.

But instead of holiday deals, they are lined up for a chance to enjoy live performances by headliners the Black Keys, Radiohead, and Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.

At 3 p.m., the line contained 30 people. By 7 p.m., that number had doubled, Indio police said.

Passersby asked what was going on, and one person in line joked they were all part of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Most people sat in folding chairs, but one Indio man detached seats from his van.

Smart phones and MP3 players kept people entertained, while two Indio women played board games.

They also came prepared for a cold night.

After a high Friday of 74 degrees, temperatures were expected to drop into the upper 40s overnight in Indio, according to AccuWeather.

Coachella resident Eddie Gallaga, 19, and La Quinta resident Madison Ebersole kept themselves and others entertained by playing guitars as they sat in line.

“Everybody here is pretty chill,” Gallaga said.

Madison, 17, drove past the area earlier in the week and decided to get in line about 1 p.m. after seeing a crowd.

“I was already having anxiety over it,” she said.

Few people, however, were worried they wouldn't get a pass.

Only residents of ZIP codes 92201, 92203, 92236, 92241, 92253 and 92274 are allowed to purchase the tickets.

Buyers need to show driver's licenses and will be sold only one pass each.

People expected the rules to help them keep track of the number of passes purchased ahead of them.

If there were a dozen people ahead of them, that meant just as many passes would be sold, several of them said.

La Quinta resident Lindsey Klein , 17, said she would be disappointed if she camped out for nothing.

Her friend, Indio resident Syd Styler, 17, balked at her statement and said she was enjoying the experience.

“We got the Cosmos (magazines) and stuff,” Syd said. “And at least it's a nice day.”

the promoter runs the will call festival weekend. for coachella it is at the tennis gardens and last year it was smooth sailing, assume stagecoach will call is at the same location.
