Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas : )

I had to start a thread because, this is actually my favorite time of year (minus the weekend of Stagecoach). The day after thanksgiving, I run to the dollar store and buy unecessary amounts of decorations for the apt. I make cupcakes and give them to friends instead of presents because, I'm poor as balls. Right now I'm actually watching the claymation series with Rudolph and Santa... I know. It's only Dec 1st. But it goes so fast! Anyone else have issues?

What do y'all do the holidays?

As a matter of fact, I just went out and bought a new tree! Artificial with the lights already on it. haha I've been putting up the same tree for 17 years and it seems to get harder and harder each time. I hate putting up the lights so when I saw this one with multicolored lights I had to buy it. So tonight I'm taking it home, gathering up the kids, putting on some Christmas music and decorating.
If only my stupid fireplace was working, it would be perfect.

Awwww, sounds so nice Rach! Me and Ty and the BF decorated on Saturday. Tree is up, arms and hands are nicely cut up, and Santa has officially thrown up all over my house. Most presents have been bought and wrapped (2 day shopping marathon on Turkey Day/Black Friday). Lots and lots of clean up left to do now after all that madness!

That's smart to get all your presents during the Black friday weekend. If I didn't have to work, I maybe would have done that. Now you can relax and get excited to see their faces when they open them : )

Christmas music is the best part! Do you guys have a radio station that plays non-stop holiday music? I already have it saved in my car = ) It's reeeaally hard to be a bad mood when listening to the Home Alone Soundtrack.

I can't wait for the A Christmas Story marathon Christmas Day on TBS. That movie is bizarrely awesome.

I've been in my new apt for 3 weeks. I put up prelit garland around the front window. I want an artificial tree ( prelit with multi lights) but I think I will buy a real one this year then hopefully get a screaming deal after Christmas. Hope hope hope!!! Holidays arent fun anymore .... its not about the day but about shopping AND I hate that :(. I want to volunteer at a shelter or something.... give back for Christmas. Its a win win situation., I think. But we don't have any babies either. Most with children don't want to volunteer because it is a very special day for kids. I hope to go Christmas decor seeing.... I LOVE CHRISTMAS but hate what it has become :(

Hehe. Cuppie cakes :) Are those different than cupcakes? I get what you're saying about the commericalization of Christmas, but just don't let it change you. Which is easier said than done. Focus on the family and how it makes everyone a little cheerier, at least in my experience. Even in the stores when I'm shopping, I like that it brings people together. It's exciting to me. Doesn't mean you forget about giving back. Volunteering is a good idea.

Happy Channukah?

And a Merry Kwanza :)

103.5 is all Christmas Music, all the time! Although a couple songs on there drive me up the wall. I have a Trans Siberian Orchestra CD and a Josh Grobin Christmas one too that I love. I wanna see if Michael Buble has a Christmas album. My BF is getting me hooked on him.

You can volunteer year round, and give back :-) My prayer group recently talked about this and how people only really wanna "give back" around the holidays. It's true for me as well. I want to make it a point to do something nice for the needy on a regular basis. Holidays help with reminding us I suppose though. As for shopping, I LOVE it! This holiday for me is about Jesus, but I love buying people gifts and making people happy, so that part for me is a ton of fun. In fact, I don't even GET presents myself normally, I just love getting them for others :)

For those with kids, like myself, who find it hard to donate time, try donating things. I'm donating 8 tubs of clothes and toys to the LA Mission this year. No point in it sitting around waiting for me to have a yard sale when it can go to people who really need it.

Is it weird that I have 261 Christmas songs on my iPod and only 5 Chanukkah songs?

I'm terrible about buying the Christmas gifts. Unlike you, I wait till just a few days before and then I'm wrapping frantically! However, since I'm in the holiday sprit this year, I think I might just go out this weekend and get it all taken care of. It's just so hard with all those grand children I have. haha

Oh man, I bet. Grandchildren means you have to buy for regular children AND friends and loved ones. Thankfully I just have brother and parents this year. Though I feel like a lot of my friends have birthdays in Dec and Nov. It's just a big gift time. Thankfully a lot of people go out to eat too, and being a waitress, I make a little more around the holidays to cover gift costs.

Haha, are you Jewish? I think there are just more musical artists who jump on the Christmas wagon because there are so many classic christmas songs. So, not too weird. Hanukkah isn't even that big of a holiday in Judaism, right? Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanahom are bigger.

unclefeiny
12-02-2011, 02:52 PM
Yeah, Chanukkah is kind of a BS holiday that became big because the Jewish marketing department decided they needed something to combat Christmas. We were losing people to the dark side and they figured that Chanukkah comes at the same time as Christmas sometimes, so let's promote the crap out of it!

Smart people, the Jewish Marketing Department :) Are they also responsible for Adam Sandler and Woody Allen?

I got your invite :-) I'd love to come, but I have another ugly sweater party that night. I have an ugly sweater, but the problem is, it's kinda cute. It's fluorescent green with bright pink and a snowman on it. I tried to enter a contest once wearing that with a grey turtle neck, bright pink capri's, and green and pink shoes. I looked too coordinated for it to be "ugly" apparently.

Here's the pic from the last one I went to. Green eyeshadow and all, lol. And yeah, it's in Cypress. I'd actually make the drive there after, but my BF will just be getting off a plane and he's prob not gonna wanna party all night.

Hahahaha, nice! Awesome that Adam went. He's a participator :) I ended up being a total doof and realizing last minute that my kiddo's slumber party wasn't until SATURDAY night so my BF and I took him to look at Christmas lights on Friday and then stopped by my friends party for an hour.

Haha, on a somewhat related note, I started rapping this song to my 6 year old the other night. I got on my knees, and with no music on, started rapping the whole song and doin "rapper" dances and hand movements. My son just stood there looking at me. At the end he said "I didn't know you could rap mom. I thought only Dad could!" (his Dad's a rapper, yes, a real one). I just thought it was hilarious. Mama's got skillz.
