View Full Version : Stagecoach "TOO EXPENSIVE FOR MOST"

Let me first start off by saying "kudo's for the idea". It's great, and about time that somebody tried this again (remember the "STARFEST" out at the LA county fairgrounds back in 93'-94'?) That event introduced us to Tim Mcgraw, Toby Keith, Faith Hill, Martina Mcbride, Travis Tritt, Confederate RXR, and scores of others........ I had a blast, it was needed out here in California and it's needed now. Problem is, well, MOST COUNTRY MUSIC FANS JUST CAN'T AFFORD IT. I've heard rumors that the event is no where near selling the way they had hoped. Maybe it's because most people would have to refinance their homes to afford it? lets see: $ 360.00 for a pair of tickets, another $50.00 per RV to get a spot, yet another $50.00 per person to be able to drive said RV "to" it's spot? (maybe the spot should've come with a pair of wristbands?) so for a couple, it costs roughly $510.00 just to view the event (since it's in the desert, not many people live near the venue, so driving to it each day, dealing with traffic, is out of the question) Now that you're there, you need money for food, drinks, and of course maybe a shirt from your favorite artist, roughly another $200.00 dollars for the weekend. Let's throw in gas and we're gonna be nice and call it $100.00 (since we wont drive when we're there, but again, it's out in the DESERT so most will have to trek quite away's to get there. So, in total, to see "quite a few" acts (c'mon people there are 4 different stages, so unless you have 8 eyeballs and bionic hearing you can only see and hear 1 act at a time) and with roughly 55 acts and only 20 hours of "listening time" "quite a few" is being generous. The grand total for the weekend event will run a couple about $810.00 dollars! Gee, I wonder why it isn't sold out? Most country music fans in California just can't afford to go to an event like this..........I hope they make enough money this year to consider the event a success, and do it again next year, but just like STARFEST 13 years ago(it went away after two years because it cost too much to produce) this will probably be the only year it happens. Enjoy it, I will, and wear sunscreen! Scott ( 100% American Made)

I went to Fan Fest @the Pomona Fairgrounds back in about 1997 ish.......... that was also short lived...... but we had a good time.... a few I remember were Billy Ray Cyrus, Tammy Wynette, Ken Mellons some guy by the name of Kenny Chesney and somewhere I have a list...... it was a scorcher .... my girlfriend and I drove down there from Oxnard (at the time) ......
As far as Stagecoach goes, I think everybody wants to go - but it is pretty pricey and I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't fill up... even Boot Barn is offering a deal these days..... the cost is right about $810 but that still doesn't include the hotel room for three nights- I'm adding another $210 dollars. You might as well as well say it's a $1,000 weekend.... ooooouch..... I hope there might be a "meet and greet" kinda thing or something to make it over the top - but I won't get my hopes up......
Take Care and see y'all at Stagecoach!

You guys are calculating GA tickets only...add in VIP or GOLD and it is even more expensive!! I too hope it goes well enough to bring it back, but major changes need to be made.

I tried to split my ticket to alleviate a bit of the cost and got screwed by Golden Voice in the end...long story short, they sent one wristband for both days making it impossible to split. Needless to say the person I am splitting with is extremely upset. :(

I can already tell ya unless the prices drop dramatically I won't attend next year. I've already paid $192 for two GA tickets through ticketmaster, and two hotel nights at $250 each night (comfort inn, not a huge 5 star). I'm a few hrs away so add in gas and food (not including alcohol) and its easy a $850 weekend... I understand having to pay the entertainment, but the tickets could have been cheaper.. or maybe let us BYOfood for BBQ in the parking lot... For the record, I know the hotel I'm staying at doubled the price of the room for this event... that sucks too!

$165 isn't cheap but its really not that bad considering youre getting 2 full days of music from artists who on their own probably charge $30 and upwards for a show(I think my sister paid over $60 just to see Kenney Chesney recently).

Its a really great experience too. GV knows how to put on a good festival. This will be my 4th year attending the Coachella music festival and I have never been let down. Oh yeah, and the 165 is pretty good compared to the 250 I shelled out this year for that festival. But I still know it will be worth every penny!

seriously, there are coachella attendee's that travel from australia, the uk, japan, etc. i think the problem is that this is the first year of stagecoach and it was a surprise to everyone, so the cost seems a bit much since there was no time to save. in terms of coachella, now that it is an established festival people save all year to make the trip. if stagecoach happens again next year you will have 365 days to plan for it. think, if you set aside $100 a month into a "stagecoach savings" account you would have $1200 by the time the next one rolls around. even $50 a month would work for one person to get a 2 day pass, share a hotel room, and have money left over for food/merch/gas.

obviously you don't understand..do you realize goldenvoice has to not only pay the bands, but pay the city of indio, the owners of the land, the police, it's own in house employees, and a myriad of production costs? the cost of the pass is actually right about what i would expect.

I hope they sell enough tickets to have another one next year?

For me, its not so much the cost of the tickets themselves (I get it- it is a good price for all that entertainment) but it is all the other stuff that REALLY starts to add up!! When Kenny comes to Coors Amp in SD all I have to pay for is the ticket!! I don't have to buy 3 meals, and all my beverages, some place to stay, lose a day of vacation, etc.....At home I can drink my Bud Light in the parking lot and sleep in my own bed at night. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely cannot wait for this festival, but I don't see myself going ever again. Well, I still haven't received my GA tix I bought in Jan so maybe I won't be able to go after all, but that is another story....

Yeah, but this goes for any multi-day music festival. Think of it as a little vacation itself. Its more than just seeing each individual artist, its the experience as a whole that makes it so great. I understand festivals aren't for everyone, but I love them.

We're coming from Hawaii, just for this Festival. We've gone to Fan Fair/CMA Fest in Nashville for the past 4 years and decided to try something new this year. The price is not so much a concern as the NO in/out passes, no sharing VIP tickets, Beer only served and consumed in the Beer Garden, NO assigned seating and 10 days prior to Fest and still NO LINE-UP. They/We may be saying ALOHA to Stage Coach Fest next year.

no line up? or no set times? why does anyone need to know a specific time an artist is playing weeks before the show...even 3-4 days before the show is plenty of time to make plans.

I would say expensive for some... If you do it right. I rented a RV, bought the RV pass, with Electrical and 7 camping passes. WOW This is adding up... But by breaking it down with 6 others it only comes out to 350 (not inlcuding the price of admission to the festival) a piece. This includes all the food and drink in the RV. Tell me where you can spend a weekend with friends, see sooo many concerts with Food and Bev for less than that. That like $120ish a night. I've spent that much at Incahoots many times. It's best if you get a group to share the fun and expense with and believe it or not it will be less expensive. Plus I won't have to drive to a hotel 5 miles away. I'll get all Jacked-up and go pass out Thank you very much. Whatever you do... Just have fun. Who cares about the $$$. Plus nobody worthy is coming to San Diego now anyway (Besides Alan and B&D). See you in 10 days....

Too expensive?

How many times have you paid over $60 to see one performer for about two hours? And I bet whenever you go to a concert it isn’t right next door, so you have to pay for gas to get there. And if you are like most you also go to dinner and maybe a snack afterwards as well. All that probably ends up costing over $150 for a two-hour concert!! I think what they are charging is right in line for what you are getting. It will be an experience you probably will never forget, and you will see a lot of entertainers each day.

In my opinion Stagecoach will be a better value than any two-hour concert you ever go to!!

You're right Cooter, at least regarding the city, land, etc. I don't think the $165 is high for what is going to be going on as far as the artist go. I do think however, ticketmaster is making bank, the camping section price ($50 PER PERSON) is high and I'm not really one to want to hang in a "beer garden". All that said, I am looking forward to my weekend very much!!! We cancelled the hotel and are now camping, that seems like it will be half of the fun anyway!!

I know I would not be going if it weren't for me winning my tickets. Thank goodness I have an RV, but that $50 fee on top of the $50 fee per person is double dipping!!!!

Now, what really chaps my hide, is the NO ALCOHOL and NO BBQ in the camping area.....some vacation!!!!! This is the clincher that will probably keep me from ever coming again, as well as the drinking only in designated areas. Sucks in 100 degree weather I can't drink a beer while Kenny sings "i'll just sit right here and have another beer"

Anyone who thought this event was overpriced needs a lesson in economics. I saw 25 different artists over the two days I was there. Money well spent as far as I'm concerned.

I won my tickets and I am glad I did, it was worth it, and all this about no alcohol and bbq in the camping was a bunch of bull because I saw a lot of people doing it. I don't see a problem with it, there were no problems all weekend. Everyone got a long with everyone, we met people from Beaumont,Florida, and San Fransisco and we are from Reedley, Calif. (near Fresno) Thanks again for a great time, I hope I can afford to go again next year. It was a great weekend for my husband and I to get away alone.

I think it was well worth the price. Especially if you consider going to each of the main performers alone, the travel and expense for that, it was a good deal to see them all in one place. It's just something to save and plan for the next year. We have a whole year this time!!

iconoclast78

I didn't watch a single act on the main stage, and I still think it was worth my money. And between the other three stages, I didn't have any empty time during the day. In fact, I had to miss a few acts I wanted to see because of the overlap with others. Anyone who skipped Neko Case to watch Kenny Chesney missed out on one of the greatest voices in country music today.

I just don't know how anybody can ever say it was too expensive!! Even if you only saw the (5) headliners a day, if you tried to go to 5 of those concerts at say low price $50 a per person times 2 days, that's a 1000 bucks. Not including parking, which was free and for the number of people basically hassle free. But most venues charge ridiculous parking fees. As far as the camping area goes again a huge bargain, even if you do the VIP Rv hook ups. $165 for hook ups, $100 for (2) camping passes, still cheaper than (3) nights in a hotel and you can just walk through the gate and even bring your own food and walk back for meals if necessary. Gas prices suck, no way around it, but if you spend time driving back and forth to the local arena/fairgrounds, you'd probably end up ahead driving to the desert and home. The shows overlapped plenty to get to see all of one and catch a bit of another, so you don't need 8 eyes. Stagecoach was awesome and had
B-A-R-G-A-I-N written all over it.

I would have to agree! Bargain! Could not have possibly seen all those acts for that price. Seven of us stayed in a motorhome onsite, again worth it! We did most of our eating at the motorhome, hydrated at the motorhome and escaped the heat at the motorhome! ;) I spent most of my money on shirts! Except for the 4 CMT TOP COWBOY shirts that my guy won. :D LOL We are all in again for next year, BRING IT ON!

ok, we went with my sister and her husband. we took the rv and got there friday and stayed until monday. i won my set of tickets, so we split the cost of 2 more plus the camping. let me just say, we had the most unbeleiveable time!!! we attend many concerts throughout the year and this was amazing!!! i think the cost, for what we got, was very reasonable. we are definately doing it again next year only we plan on going gold for the 4 of us plus we'll get the electrical hookups. let me just say with regards to the price, a person will pay $80 per ticket to see toby keith and miranda lambert. we paid $180 for 2 days and 52 artists per person. do the math. it was well worth the price. besides, if you were a "camper" you had the ability to go in and out to eat and drink, however, the food i thought for a concert was very reasonably priced. tis a small price to pay for 2 days of pure bliss!!! we're definately in for next year and have already started planning. bring it on STAGECOACH!!!!!!!!!!

Wasn't there last year, but I read that it was as success. I'm hoping for more success this year.

Yeah, this is pretty up there cost-wise. I sure hope they find a way to keep it going year after year. Fan Fair is just about the same price (ticket-wise) and you get 4 days. Yeah, the artists are not paid for that. So, I guess the bigger the artists out here, the more we pay. We're in a catch 22.

I went to Stagecoach last year, and had a great time. I would recommend it, you get to see great artists, but I do feel it is expensive. I went to fan fest- CMA festival in Nashiville, wich was a lower cost for the tickets, and lasted longer. It was also wide spread around the city.

ya know $175.00 isn't bad for all the artists you get to see in two days......heck we get to pay ticketmaster almost $30 just to buy the tickets.........this is an awesome concert gang and you'll enjoy it - take yer lawn chairs - sit them down - spend two days enjoying good music and food too............check out cheap hotels in area or other rv parking or tenting areas which may be less expensive..........but know this you'll have a fantastic time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is a good idea to have expensive tickets. For those people who went this year they know how personal of a concert this is. If it were cheap then it would be overly packed with too many people. I met Miranda Lambert there last year and the line for autographs was only about ten minutes long!!!

Keep it expensive, it's a better concert that way....

i go to coachella and am considering going to stagecoach 08 but the chair thing bugs me big time! people just putting their chairs out to claim a spot im so-so on, but then again i wont stick to one area cuz ill be going from stage to stage.. im sitll undecided. but im glad that the stagecoach people are now starting to feel the vibe that is out at indio. i truly believe this event will become as big as coachella is now...
