For those of you who don't have Facebook and are friends with themommie, Yvonne, please send your prayers her way. Her daughter, 18 yrs old, had a stroke early this am. She had a huge migrane then began to shiver and her left side went weak. They ran several test, finally getting TPA into her and it was working. She is now in ICU at Loma Linda and she is ask asking for food and if she can do her homework. hahaha (just like her) Praying for a full recovery for Heather! She is a beautiful young lady with a lot to offer the world...and has a beautiful daughter to care for.

Hi my awesome SC family. Thank you so much for the prayers and good wishes. I love you guys.
No test results yet, so we still do not know what caused the stroke. Heather does continues to improve. She got to eat a little bit. She keeps saying she wants to go home. She went for a little walk with the physical therapy person. She will need speech therapy and occupational therapy for her left side, but the therapy folks and the nursing staff say she is doing great.
Her comment today was "I have a rough draft of an essay due on Tuesday and the final draft next Monday.
I am so proud of my little girl. OK not so little she is actually 20 years old.
Kymery thank you for thinking of posting the information here and on Wagon Wheel's message board.

update: They found a hole on the back side of Heathers heart. It can be fixed but we have to wait until she completely heals from the the bleeding in the brain caused by the medicine that broke up the clot. They are still doing tests to make sure the hole is the real cause of the clot. She is so scared she keeps asking if she is going to die? I am trying to stay strong, but every so often I just breakdown. It's hard cuz it's just my boys and these young folks with me, and I have to keep it together and be the strong one. Some of the other folks who have family here have been a blessing just talking with complete strangers going through similar stuff is helping.
Thank you again and please keep the prayers and good thoughts coming.

Heather is doing well. She was able to visit with her daughter for a while. From what Yvonne is saying, she will have surgery and rehab in the future to fix the hole in her heart.

Hi everyone. THANK YOU sooo much for all the prayers. They sure have worked. Heather had the stroke on the Sun Aug 29th. She was released from the hospital on Friday Sept 3. She is doing very well physically. She has regained all movement on her left side. She speaks fine. She just has some deficits as far as staying focused and reaction time. She says she feels like a zombie at times.
The doctors have said it was NOT a blood clot that traveled from the bruise on her leg she got from the car accident on the 23rd.
They are saying the most likely cause was her birth control.
The cardiologist says the PFO (hole in the heart) they found will more then likely just be left alone. He says she has had it since she was little== he said it is a hole that normally closes in the first 2 years of life. So since it never caused a problem he does not see the need to close it. and that 20 percent of the american population has one and do not know it.
They put her on coumadin/warfarin (blood thiner) because her blood is clotting when it should not.
We went for her first follow up visit with a new primary doc and he said at the end of the visit that from the records and scans that he had seen before she got there he was expecting a patient in a wheelchair.
So again I THANK YOU all for I know that all the prayers definitely helped the doctor himself called it a miracle.

Oh my gosh, that is wonderful news. However, BIRTH CONTROL? What the heck? My daughter had a tumor the size of a golf ball removed from her liver as well as 20% of the liver itself due to birth control pills. Terrible.

What kind of birth control?? I've been on it (well, off and on obviously) for 10 years. This scares me to hear!

Unfortunately it's been so long that she doesn't remember the exact name of the prescription. Needless to say, she doesn't need them anymore because she ended up getting a hysterectomy when she was 31

Congrats on the recovery, I can't imagine how hard this must have been.
Did/does your daughter smoke? I hear that cigarette smoking can increase odds of getting clots caused by birth control. Totally not condemning anybody, just offering information for others to hopefully avoid the same heartache you guys went through.
Birth control is pretty hard on the system. I think usage is so common we forget hoe strong those hormones really are.
Best of luck in her physical and your emotional recovery!

Nope not a smoker. Likes her occasional DragonBerry Bacardi but now she can't have that with the medicine she will taking forever. Improving everyday. Just trying to get her blood thinned to where the doctors are happy.
