SCMB Vegas weekend?

So I wasn't ready to think about REALLLLLY planning anything QUITE yet - but since it's been brought up - thought I'd start it's own thread... :)

SCMB Vegas weekend - who wants to do one?



Here were my thoughts:
-everyone plan their own transportation / hotel reservations... But share where some are staying so maybe we can stay in the same hotel - or nearby (the Excalibur / Tropicana / NYNY / MGM corner is always good!)

-gather for maybe a champagne brunch buffet later Saturday morning. This gets us all together, but we all pay individually for buffets -so we don't have to figure out a bill!

-go to a different country bar Friday night and Saturday night. There's Toby Keith's, Stoney's, Gillys (new in Treasure Island).....



I'm kind of thinking early November. November is when we start to get excited about the next SC - it's when tickets go on sale....it's about 1/2 way in between SCs.....?

Anyway - thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? :)

If Wagon Wheel happens, it will probably be early November, it would be tough to have two expensive trips that close together.

I'd like to vote for SUMMER! I wanna go out there while it's HOT HOT HOT. I will of course go whenever, but November is gonna be rough for me anyhow. I have a work trip the first week of November typically, and then the 3rd week is Thanksgiving, everyone spending $ on Christmas, etc....

What about August or September? Maybe Labor Day weekend??? It's your dealio, so I will try to make it no matter what, I just have to plan around the weekends my kiddo is with me.

Middle of June-Middle of August is best for me, that's when we'll be on hiatus, so not only will I have all the time in the world, but it would also be great for me to make some money at the casino since I'll be living off unemployment.

I'm in. But I would say we should do it on a non-holiday weekend because all the hotels will be jacked up and it'll be harder to get a flight at a low fare.

Last weekend of August doesn't work for me. I'll be in HAWAII for a USC game. I also can't do it any time from that weekend until the end of December on account of USC football. So before is the only option for me.

I vote for June-July. But not 4th of July.

Toby Keith's restaurant isn't really a country bar. Last time I went they weren't playing country music and there was nothing country about it.

Ohhh, I wanna gooo! Well, personally, I'd like early-min September. June and July I'll be in Michigan and the last week of August work starts back up. For me, September is free...the weekend of October 2nd I'll be in Vegas for Frozen Fury (IHML and KL too?), the weekend after that is my high school reunion.

Totally agree! It's the fun of a festival, but you are sooooo much closer, even with GA Lawn tickets. Like seriously close and if you're on the lawn you can go to the side of the stage and meet each artist as they come off and get autographs and pictures. It is sooooooo worth it!

So I re-read this thread and looked at my calendar and quite honestly - the best weekend for me would be the last weekend of August (weekend before Labor Day). Going to be a little nutty because I'm planning on leaving for Texas around Sept. 1st to go visit my cousins and a friend - but it's the best weekend for me between now and when I'm already going to Vegas in October for Frozen Fury.

I know that weekend didn't work for everyone :( But did seem to work for most.

Thoughts? Should we do this?

Garth show tickets are tricky. We saw him in December, both nights of his opening weekend. he was awesome. Very different type of show. We have tickets again for his August show. they sell out in record time. You can only buy 4 tickets I think, and you must give them the names of those going. names cannot be changed, you must show ID... and I can tell you this is what they did for both shows in December. They do not want scalpers getting these tickets and re selling them. The ticket security is overkill, and if you see any on ebay- it's a scam.
I absoulutely love Garth. I love him performing on stage with his all out band and lights,with high energy and back up singers and the band behind him and all the extras on stage. His Vegas shows are not that. It is Garth on stage with a guitar, s stool and a bottle of water. BUT- after seeing this kind of performance, I turned around and bought tickets again. He connects with his fans and he is grateful to all of us in the audience. really different.

That sounds to me that even if you're staying 3 nights (fee x 3 + tax) that you still only get the 2 coctails. Not 2 per day. Might not be so bad if you're only staying 1 night and gonna pay for a couple drinks anyway.

But overall I agree with what IHML said - the use of all that crap should be how it always has been - on a pay as you use basis!

I've thought about trying it. I can eat an alarming amount of food. I once won a spaghetti eating contest at Buca di Beppo that included several firemen and a 300+ pound man. No one gave me even a remote chance of winning before it started.

We're staying at the Monte Carlo in August for Garth, and the room rate was great, but when my card was charged for the deposit, I saw a $29 per night "resort fee". c'mon, really? makes me mad..... grrrr

Well Stoney's is off the strip a bit but it's a very large place....good times! They were supposed to have re-opened Gilley's which was one of my favorites--only it's now at Treasure Island. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Sky Jump is like bungee but not quite. It's a "controlled" free fall so not quite as fast. And they hit the brakes at the bottom so you land on your feet instead of bouncing around.

Flight Line is the longest and fastest zipline in America.

Sky Jump is $100 and Flight Lines is $150, but the full "experience" for that is 2.5 hours. Not sure what all is involved in that but your money lasts longer there.
