Somehow, I was able to avoid cameras for the most part all weekend. The camera tends to find me quite often when I'm drinking, not sure why. I stayed pretty safe this weekend though, maybe because I was off wandering around elsewhere, I'm pretty sure I'm in lots of strangers' cameras that I will never see. I guess I'm fine with that. Either way, had an awesome time with y'all.

This was a great weekend.. fun friends, fun times, great pictures. Can't wait to start the planning for 2011. Loved GA seating on Sunday with our group. Saturday was a cluster F**K of chaos up at the front with the late arrivals wanting to get up close. We spent most of the time kicking ghem out of our area. Not going to sit up there again. Loved where we were Sunday. I think we all agree. Rose, thank you for slumming with us, too!!! You're always welcome to come hang with us!!

Thank you!

What lens and exposure settings are you using?

I have the darnest time getting good concert shots. Even when I'm right in front of the stage shooting at 2.8 (Canon L glass) I get a lot of under exposed shots. Doesn't looked like you pushed your ISO too high. What's the trick?

Do you get a lot of throw aways too or do the majority of your concert shots come out exposed this well?

Get this download (http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/) and you can see all of the EXIF data on internet photos.
It is a great tool for learning how to achieve certain shots.

My lens was 70-200 2.8 L with "spot" metering. Automatic white balance, F2.8 iso 2500, speed- 1/500.

Get that software, it is free. You'll like it. ;)

LOL- It isn't too difficult to understand once you decipher the code words :D
It is just lens information and camera speed gibberish. A point and shoot is a hell of a lot easier to use, and often times can make some great photographs.

Keep shooting away Chev, and have some fun with it. ;)

ISO 2500 explains all. What kind of camera do you have? Are the pictures retouched? I know the resolution is dropped way down but there isn't the slightest hint of grain. I'm guessing it's a 5D.

I have a 1D MKIIn and my pics get grainy if I push the ISO too high.

It is a 5D MKII (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?modelid=17662&act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139)
It handles high ISO very well. As far as "retouching", I increased blacks. that is all.

Be sure to download and try that EXIF software. I have learned so much in using that bit of software, that I really can't say enough.

Yes! My camera is awesome and CaligirlUCR can back me up on that. It's a Canon Power Shot SD790 IS and takes crazy good action shots, and a quick shutter time. Awesome videos too.

I would disagree here. For Joe user.

The G10 is a great camera. But it's a specialty camera due to all its manual controls. It's also big. It's expensive. And it has limited zoom range which most people obsess over. It is a very nice camera though but the average Joe won't be able to fully utilize it. The average Joe will get more mileage out of a camera with more zoom range and fewer manual options.

If you don't mind a mid-size point-and-shoot look into the new Canon SX210 IS. I haven't personally used it but I have the previous model (SX200) and I am a VERY discriminating consumer when it comes to cameras. I almost got a G10 but ultimately the bulk and limited zoom range killed it for me too. The SX200 has the same range of manual controls (a must for me) with more zoom capability but slightly inferior image quality.

The SX210 has even more zoom range (14x which is absolute tops in the class) but I haven't seen one or read any reviews. Hopefully it's as good as its predecessor.

Love my Canons. I have 3 point & shoots and 1 DSLR.

The two I currently have in my purse are:

PowerShot SD750 - squarish, good size for female hand, okay zoom, 7.1 megapixels, lots of fun options (sepia, color, movies, night), 3" diagonal view screen

PowerShot SD780IS - small, matte black, 12.1 megapixels, okay zoom, 2.5" diagonal view screen, lightweight!

I totally thrashed my 3rd PowerShot - it lasted forever, gave me great pictures and was not too expensive.

I have a Canon DSLR EOS Rebel Xsi that I treasure. It's too big and bulky to take to concerts and stuff (SC won't let me take it in anyway because it has a detachable lens) but I love to do nature shots and pictures of WCKid and WCDog with it.

I just picked up the 16x Lumix camera for my Mexico trip next week.
It is the DMC ZS6
I'll report back and let you know what I think after the trip.

They do use a great Leica lens on it, so I expect it to do very well for a point and shoot.
It is also very w i d e with the 25mm wide angle lens. I'm excited to try it out.

ok.. think I'll jump in..
I love cameras and photography. There is a lot to learn about settings , light, iso's. I've taken a few classes, but I can always learn more.
I have a fun Canon point and shoot camera. I take it with me everywhere. Great settings and fun color options in the settings. It is not very good in low light settings like concerts. but I haven't found any point and shoot camera that is. I also have a Rebel xti with a great all around lens 28-200x, but I wish I had the 300x zoom, for ball games, etc. I LOVE this camera!!! Again I am a Canon fan. However, because the lens detaches, I am limited to where I can take it. many of us have found this out the hard way. bummer is, it stays home alot.
Roy, I have spent many hours visiting the Canon 210 sx IS camera that just came out in April. Nice Nice addition to the Canon Family. The difference I think between this version and yours is perhaps the touch screen on the 210? anyway, it still has a $379 price tag at Best Buy, but online can be less. This camera is like a DSLR in point and shoot size. Really cool. But I was afraid if I bought it, I'd never take my Rebel out to play.
I wanted another small camera with a 14 mp and greater zoom, so I came accross the Panasonic Lumix DMC FH 20 today on Amazon. It has a special price of $149, 14mp and 8x zoom. Every site I went to the reviewers had good things to say. So I bought it, in RED !!! I 'm going to Boston and CT next week so I want to try it out.

I am still a Canon fan, but want to see just how this works. I"ll post a review when I try it out, but the price was right.
