Just looked and this year there are less acts than in previous years:
2007: 54 Acts, 2 Days, 4 Stages.
2008: 55 Acts, 3 Days, 3 Stages.
2009: 36 Acts, 2 Days, 3 Stages.
2010 so far: 28 Acts, 2 Days, 3 Stages. Almost 1/2 of the first year, 2007.
Sure hope they add more acts in. I know the line-up came out about 1 month earlier than the last times, so hopefully more will be added.

Yeah.....I agree. Last year felt like there was a lot less entertainment than the first 2 years, but I hadn't bothered to go back and count. With only 28 acts for 2010 (so far), it's going to be even more apparent. Kind of a bummer.......

not sure if this is why, but maybe if more people actually migrated to the tents to see the artists performing they would be apt to book more...seems to me most of the crowd just plops down at the mane stage and never moves for the duration.

Nick 13 is in a rockabilly band from Santa Cruz called 'Tiger Army'. He says alot of his influences comes from older style country like Hank Sr., Bobby Bare, George Jones, Buck Owens, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and Bob Wills to name a few. I am excited about this!!! ...and Merle!!!!

Pretty sure I heard Tiger Army in SD, if it was them, I liked them. I'm looking forward to Bobby Bare! WOW, too cool. Merle too, seen most the others. I come to hear great music, party & meet great people. Last yr was the right yr to buy VIP tix, glad I did, I saw the huge crowds, people lined up to the entrance area, insane. I can't do that, I'd go back to my RV & listen if it gets like that next yr.

Yes, and how much more money than the first year????? And how much more money for the camping????? Oh and how much more for a tow pass?????
Cooter
11-16-2009, 03:51 PM
and how much money did the first year cost to put on as opposed to how much was made????
i don't have the answer, but my logical guess is they spent more than they made that year.

I believe that in 08 and again in 09 the main stage set times were longer. The first year there were alot of acts, but they were only 45 min. or so long. They changed the set times to about 1 1/2 hours each for the main acts. So I remember everyone complaining the first year that the main acts were so short.
I don't see how they made that much the first year, I think they wanted it to get off to a great start. This year I am fine with the line-up they have, sure would I like more, but I'am happy with it now, how many more days to go....

so they should be expected to keep running a festival while losing money? are you kidding? costs get passed onto the customers in any business, this is no different.

Nope, but make some changes. The prices of the artists did NOT go up 3x what they were two yrs ago, so why charge 3x more for camping? And now there are even less artists...so even more savings for GV.
They knew exactly what the costs came to after the 1st year. Why is it taking 4 yrs to figure this out?
Cooter
11-17-2009, 03:15 PM
didn't realize costs are on a set line. do you pay the same for gas you did 4 years ago? food? entertainment? things fluctuate. and only one or two aspects of camping have gone up. how about how they are letting as many people in as you can cram in your rv or camping spot?
you are very good at pointing out what is negative in your view, how about looking at the flip side for once.

Ok, whatever. Prices have not doubled, and not even tripled!!. Ok AWESOME.... infinity in numbers of people that can fit in an RV. whooo hooo. They know darn well there will probably be max of about 10 if sleeping on top of each other if you are desperate to split costs, but average per RV is 4-6 depending on what grounds you are in. But on the flip side you HAVE to have a festival ticket!! Food has not tripled, nor has entertainment tickets...for ANY venue for that matter, nor has the artists rates/fees.
And Cooter, I am learning from the best on the negative of things.....You!!!:D

you don't have to sleep 10 in an RV. Just pile everyone in for the "ride in" to the site. then, people can set up as many tents as you can in your spot.

Yeah, I defenitely agree with this. I think it's all about the quality and not the quantity. Those smaller tents are usually empty... Defenitely not worth it. Nice lineup this year, defenitely likin the Keith Urban etc... That's worth it alone! Keith puts on a great show!

I think they should wait to announce the lineup until it's more solid. I'm not sure if it's happened EVERY year, but I know that at least last year - and so far this year - I've seen names I'm excited about - then they're gone.
Maybe just announce a few main, solid, artists? Then announce the full official lineup closer to the event? I can't speak for everyone - but I know I'm going regardless of the lineup! Tickets will sell no matter what! :)

Yeah its kinda like they announed one line up so then everyone buys tickets based on that and then they change it . . . . it doesnt seem right . . . . they dont need to start selling tix 6 months ahead of time . . . I would rather them wait until they are SURE of the lineup before they put it out there.

Hey... if they plop down and never move then that means shorter lines for drinks.... bathrooms.... smaller crowds at those side stages so those of us who want to see them, can!! and be comfortable!!
Besides... thats their loss!! thats where you see the older artists. and then the up and coming artists!! :o)) Im all for those people that just sit on their booties all day. Its just them not enjoying the "festival" atmosphere!!

see this thing you are on? the internet? it's great for researching pretty much anything, even bands you have never heard of! ;)
festivals are the perfect place to check out bands that aren't on your radar or that you wouldn't normally pay to see, you might just discover a nice little gem.

I agree! I love seeing new bands, you someday get to say "hey, I saw them when they first came out up close and personal!" That is a privilege. I bet i have seen 90% of the bands out today due to times I was given tickets, went to festivals or just randomly bought tickets, and those are the best shows ever.
I remember seeing Trace Adkins at the Brandin Iron, Gary Allan at the Cowboy Boogie, Chris Ledoux at Various rodeos, just to mention a couple.

Me too, but I know I will see him again one day. He was the best of them all, even over Garth...I think even Garth thought so, enough to sing about him in his song and write/sing a farewell song to him. GOD BLESS CHRIS LEDOUX

Wow, this line up keeps getting less and less worth pay $1600 for tickets. They need to bring in a couple more medium to large acts to fill the void for Jason Aldean and Gary Allan. Sunday mane stage acts looks like only 4 acts....???? i hope this line up gets better instead of worse!

Seeing Willie there the first year was such an experience. My daughter was just 8 years old and she will never forget that. I got her up close on my shoulders and he winked and waved right her. WOW!! what a memory. She's now 11 and hope to give her the same experience with Merl or the boys.

I know, it was a great show. He is so funny and personal. We were right up front to the left. That was when they had that stage pretty close to the main stage, making it easier for the trip back and forth.
We also saw him at Morongo earlier this year.
