*Can't resist teacher urges...*

Did you purposely spell it "board' since it's a message board?

/ teacher mode

Yes, this day is dragging. Took a quick walk with my best friend and nephew and I've been a slave to laundry for the rest of the day.

Something to talk about... Halloween? What fun costumes and plans does everyone have planned for the next few days?

How 'about a Cowboy Halloween joke...

The swinging doors of the Wild West saloon crashed open and in stormed Little Pete, red-faced with fury.

"All right!" he raged, "all right! Who did it? What goldarned varmint painted my horse orange for Halloween?"

The huge figure of Black Jake, notorious gunfighter and all around town bad-guy rose from a chair by the door.

"Why that would be ME," he drawled, bunching his gigantic fists, "what about it?"

"Oh, well, er," stammered little Pete, "all I wanted to say was. . .the first coat's dry and he's ready for another!!"

Hey, congrats on not letting it keep you down. Friend of mine is dyslexic, too, so I know it's a real challenge. This website offers a special free online spell checker that's made just for dyslexics if you'd like to check it out.

haha was just checking. you can't tell that kind of stuff online. spell check wouldn't pick up on it though since board is spelled correctly.

ya, i try to catch all my kids at the slightest hint of something "different". i had a couple that had a few speech problems that were either still age appropriate or because english was a second language to them. i still referred them to speech. i wanted to make sure they got as much help as possible in case it didnt correct itself.

ya spell check doesn't check to see if its the right spelling for the context just if the word is spelled right. I was in spl-ed for most of my school years but still have problems i have never been a good speller at all English was always my hardest class but was never relay good at any of them im more of a go getter and let someone else take care of the paper work. i can fix take apart and rebuild just about anything but just don't ask me to read my 7yo can read almost as good as me. sad i know but hey instructions of for single woman that don't have male friends.

Things you can do when you have absolutely nothing to do...

Push your eyes for interesting light show:
(Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes) See a variety of blobs, stars and flashes. Try to make out things - is your subconscious trying to send you a message? Can you control what you see by pressing different areas with different forces? Would it be possible to somehow see the same effects on TV? Or for that matter, watch TV with your eyes shut doing this?

See how long you can hold your breath:
(Amusement Potential: 4-20 minutes) Not that much fun, but it sure passes the time. Play with a friend, or try to beat your own personal best.

Try to not think about polar bears:
(Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes) This is especially hard, because by trying too much, you remember what you were trying to avoid thinking of. If you try too little, you end up thinking about polar bears anyway.

Scratch yourself:
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes) Go ahead, scratch yourself now. Even if nothing itches, go ahead. Doesn't that feel pretty good?

Look at something for awhile, shut eyes, study after image:
(Amusement Potential: 2-5 minutes) Another great time waster. It takes about 30 seconds of staring to create an after image, and the image is then viewable for about the same length of time. Fun to combine this one with pushing on your eyes.

Get yourself as nauseated as possible:
(Amusement Potential: 5-10 minutes) Best achieved by looking straight up and spinning around. Try to be so dizzy you can't even stand up. It's cheaper then drinking and it's also entertaining since it makes boredom seem a lot better.
