That's the strongest I've felt in quite some time. I just read it was 5.0 and centered right by Hawthorne. It lasted a good 10-15 seconds for me and everything was rattling.

I had just nodded out on the couch and it woke me up. I had no clue what to do, I started running in circles! Then I realized I should check on my 3 year old! He was fine, but it woke him up too. My mom lives in Bellflower and said it knocked down some pictures.

KL & IHML how scary. Glad you guys are ok.

My first time on the boards for today! Yep - that was a scary one! Nothing too major - but I was a little sad about the broken shot glasses and a couple souvenir ceramic things from Vegas.

Oh well, gives me an excuse to buy a big yummy drink during my next trip there? :)

I was over at the Old Navy on Rosecrans for that one and almost fell over. Fun times. I can't wait to go camping this weekend and get away from LA for a few days. Although we're going camping up in Kern County which is right by the San Andreas Fault, hooray!

I work for Southland INdustries. We do the HVAC maintenance on the dyno pit there (cooling tower and pumps). I think we're about to do a big flush on the CT, my boss had me looking for vendors yesterday to pump out 3,000 gallons and hold it. We used to do the Technical Center equipment too, but now we just have the engine dyno.

That is funny. And KittyLeigh is trying to get a job at Mattel which is a HUGE customer of ours. Yeah, Toyota does a lot of their HVAC in house which is why we only have the dyno pit anymore under contract.

So he works for an HVAC company then? Is he union? Only reason I ask is I think we're going to be hiring a few technicians in the near future, and we pay GOOD, but we're union.

NO not @ all I'm a teamster, I wish I would have gotting into the union @ a younger age I could have retired already. I was just stating a fact unions created the middle class & You can't have a middle class unless You have a 40 %. Union work force as we had in the 50s & 60s

There are times I could swear that their bonuses are tied to how slow they provide service. I've never seen people move so slow in all my life. And every time they enter your order into the machine it's like their first time using it, every time. Don't they know where the button for BEER is after they've pushed it a few thousand times?

Then one day I saw a sign near the Staples entrance saying how they're proud to be union or something like that and then I understood.

Ok, lol, couldn't tell! I agree, when you're in my business, union is awesome. I'm not union, nor is our office staff, but all of our field are. And they make INSANE $$$. I think 5th year apprentices are now around $30/hr or so. Our Foremen for my department make over $42/hr. I'm in the wrong field I think!

the best was the grocery workers strike, where they were protesting every day and once in awhile a union head would drive up in his bentley and drop off some donuts for them. hmm...

That was out of control. Those grocery baggers were making like $30/hour. That's obscene.

I spent a few years throwing freight for Albertson's. The baggers don't make that, the cashiers do.

Baggers were not making $30 that's what the corporations want to make You believe. They are factoring in all taxes payroll taxes & health & welfare benefits. Our company can say they're paying me about $70 an hour when in fact my hourly wage is about $23 an hour but I do have nice health & welfare benefits

tgcali
05-22-2009, 12:06 PM
Exactely TP, the baggers make minimum wage. The cashiers make bank, but, they are never given more than about 25-30 hours a week because of it. I made good money because I worked graveyard cashier throwing freight with the crew and that was the only cashier job that was a full 40 hours a week.

tractorpilot
05-22-2009, 12:31 PM
Yeah usally they have to work as part timers for at least 5 years. I know @ budwieser they have people that have worked 10 years as part timers ( beer wagon driver is hard work) making $10. Grocery work is hard I maybe deal with 10 customers a day that's hard enough. Imagine how many people a clerk or the weinie man @ the game are trying to appease.

Yet the concessioner is more then to let you think he's got to charge You $10 for a beer or dog cause his employee union

I bagged groceries at Lucky's (before it was Albertson's) and I only made minimum wage. The checkers make a lot, but the baggers don't. That's for sure.
