Angels vs. Padres, June 12th Meetup!

Hey gang,
So my company is putting on an Angels game tailgate BBQ and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for an SCMB meetup! The tickets for the game are free to a certain point. I could probably get 10 free tickets, but any additionals would be $10 each. I'm putting the event on, but don't wanna take advantage TOO much. So here's the info:

Friday, June 12th
Angels vs. Padres @ Angels stadium in Anaheim
Tailgate BBQ starts when the gates open
We'll be under or right by the "Big A" along the 57 freeway
Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Water, and Soda provided
Bring a side dish (anything) to feed 10 people
BYOB (we will have the red cups)

If you are my friend and in need of a place to stay, I live close by.

Let me know who is definitely in so I can reserve tickets. This is gonna be FUN! Let's see how long it takes for this thread to go OT, shall we? ;)

You can tell me anytime you want, I am in charge of the tickets, so I get to do what I want. Plus I'm in charge of putting this whole thing on, so it's not a big deal at all. We're not currently hiring on the construction side (everything is SLOW). My department will be soon, but only technicians probably. But it NEVER hurts to put in an application.

If it was legitmately a medication prescribed by the doctor and both he and the doctor had honorable intentions then 50 games is harsh. He has a clean record and he did not intend to do wrong. The policy must be enforced, but 50 games is harsh for a legitimate medication.

just my medical opinion....if they were legitimate, the tests would have shown what the drugs were. He was tested for performance enhanching drugs,not legitimate drugs. and the test was positive. Any doctor knows what drugs are performance enhancing, what an athlete can legally take. The rules are very clear in MLB guidelines, and Manny knew what he was taking.
In all fairness... many athletes..power hitters, are "enhanced"... they will be tested if suspicious. Manny is just another in a long list.
Think about this.. look how exciting the game is with these enhanced power hitters..might be a slow boring game without all these HR hitters!!...jmo

It's not that simple. There's not a list of every substance that is banned. On the list of banned substances are some broad categories. Testosterone boosters, aromatase inhibitors, anti estrogens, etc. Lots of things an endocrinologist might prescribe are banned categories even if they are not individually named.

This is how JC Romero got busted. He took an OTC supplement (bought at GNC) that was not on any banned lists but fell into a banned category and it was very difficult for anyone to know this. Supplement companies introduce all kinds of exotic concoctions and it's hard for these guys to know what's allowed or not allowed.

The crazy thing is that there is no evidence that some of these drugs actually boost performance. But some people theorize that they can enhance performance so some idiots abuse them which gets them banned.

I'm not justifying what Manny did because we just don't have enough details. But I would say the vast majority of doctors haven't a clue about which legally prescribable drugs are banned by MLB because a lot of these drugs are designed to correct hormonal problems not enhance athletic performance.

Manny has been tested fifteen times in the last five years and has always been clean so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt about what he knew or didn't know. And I'm going to guess that whatever banned substance he was taking isn't much of a performance enhancer. The guy was taking a prescription medication not steroids and there is a BIG difference between the two.

As for the excitement of baseball, it was America's Passtime for over 100 years before the steroid era and it will always be America's Passtime. We don't need steroids to enjoy the sport!

Also, Friday nights at the stadium are Big Bang Friday's.. they have a great fireworks show after the game. Fridays are fun at the stadium

I think it's the 500 section, I'll have to look when I get back to my desk. Lol this is funny. I was going to mention The last time I went to an angels game, we never made it in. We went to get tickets...the line was too long so we went back and began to drink some more[we didnt need it, trust me] then figured we go back when the line went down. Needless to say we went back when the line went down, and ended up with ZERO tickets. so here we all are beligerant...so we decided to go to the beach. Well I ended up driving my friends car..because she cant even stand up straight and...my boyfriend drove his truck with some friends in it. I got home in like an hour..he however decidedd to get on the WRONG freeway detour and almost ended up in mexico, fell asleep at a gas station and drove home 4 hours later. BAD news...needless to say we havent been to an angels game since. I hope to make it in this time. =]
