I started this thread because I've got a pet peeve that almost got me in a fight about half an hour ago, so wanted to vent. You guys can post your pet peeves as well, it will be fun.
So I'm at the gym (already a pet peeve), and my least favorite gym person is there. I'm sure all of you have him at your gym as well. He's the guy that gets on a machine and just sits there relaxing in between sets, then gets offended and mad at you when you politely ask if you can work in with him. Grrrrr.

LOL, I never have that issue, but maybe I just don't notice it. Mostly I run at the gym though.
God, I could spend all day on my pet peeves! I'll try to narrow it down and come back later.

no this guy in particular is at the gym everyday and he has toothpicks for arms, i laugh cause he tries soo hard to make them look big, its actually quite funny.
i just don't like going to the gym, thats why i take breaks, i know i need to go but i don't want to be there, i go at 530 every morning and i don't know why i go so early, it sucks

I TOTALLY agree. I hate the girls with their hair all done, and full make-up just strolling on the treadmill. It's not a freakin DATING FORUM! I go to the gym to SWEAT not meet guys. I don't ever feel sexy in sweaty gym clothes. And the girls that wear next to nothing, what is the point? It's not helping your workout, so why? I hate attention whores like that!

I go to the YMCA. Not a great dating scene, mainly people three times my age or high schoolers. I guess it's good to help me get my work out done though. I get in, lift, and get out as fast as possible.

Shiiit I have no problem at all with chicks looking hot at the gym. It's nice to see.
But I would never try to pick up a chick there. When I'm lifting I have to be in a zone. I think people at my gym think I'm an asshole because I don't smile, I don't socialize and I'm about the only person who seems to be serious about weight training at my wussy gym.
I do laugh at people who seem all business in the gym and have no idea what the heck they are doing. There's this one guy at my gym who spends half a workout doing forearm exercises. I don't know where he got the idea that he need to be doing these forearm exercises. And this new guy at my gym last week spent his entire workout doing every kind of bicep exercise he could think of. He must've been working his bis for 40 minutes. I could tell he was a noob and wanted to say something to him but I just let him be. I'm always happy to answer questions when guys ask me but I tend not to interfere unless I think someone's going to hurt themself.

I'll agree with that. Phones shouldn't even be allowed in the gym.

i have duty days so i have to have my phone, but i don't ever use it unless i get a call and have to go to leave, other than that, i think phone use should be limited to important calls, why would you want to text/call someone when your working out anyway, thats stupid and distracting to everyone around you
unclefeiny
05-05-2009, 03:41 PM
My theory on phones at the gym is if you're playing around on it, you're obviously not working out hard enough to get anything out of it. I can't help but laugh when I see people chit chatting on the bike or treadmill. I turn on my ipod, focus on the weights, and get it done.
I don't think I've ever talked to anyone at the gym except to get yelled at for asking to work in. FML.

I agree....I think it's already been said - but I can't (and don't want to) chat on the phone while on an eliptical or any other machine.
Which reminds me of another pet peeve....girls who talk on their phone in the bathroom. I don't want to hear 1/2 your conversation while I'm in the stall next to you...and I'm sure the person on the other end of the phone doesn't really care to hear toilets flushing either! haha

Lol yes. I agree with you on this one as well...OR at the dinner table. TEXTING or talking on the phone while eating dinner is the RUDEST thing you could possibly do. EVEN if its family. UGH!!!! Man do I hate it when people use their phone in a restaurant. That is definitely one of my biggest pet peeves.
I've got lots of driving related peeves too. One of the biggest is all the a-holes who drive right into a the middle of an intersection with nowhere to go and end up blocking the intersection to cross traffic and people who are trying to make turns. ARGH!!!!!

Not owning your mistakes. You blew it. Admit it, apologize and go on.

You beat me to it! I cannot stand this! I also don't like when people say something like "him and me" when it should be "he and I."
I too hate the prissy, Miss America-like girls at the gym. But what I hate most at the gym is the huge ass pillar and the fact that the treadmills are in front of the ellipticals blocking my view of the hott trainer on the lower level!
I also enjoy getting to turn my phone off while at the gym. It's peaceful!
A new pet peeve of mine is at work -- when my employees are late and they come rushing in like they were just running, or shaking their head like they caught all the red lights. No, it's called being an adult, leaving for work on time or early, packing your food the night before. Then, to top it off, you tell me that you're late because you went for a run and didn't realize the time, or that your shirt was still in the dryer! Wear a dirty or wet shirt, I don't care, just be on time!

I don't think I'd care if this were a normal office enviornment and people got their crap done (which I've been in, and it is fine). But, I run a before and after school program, and the kids get out of school at exact moments, not give or take 15 min. So when someone is consistently late, leaving me alone with a large group of kids, or run up to me before I'm about to go get them from their rooms, yeah, I get frustrated.

This is the third time they've had this deal and it is definitely the best protein deal around. Good opportunity to stock up if you're a regular user :D

haha! I am! However, I am guilty and when it comes to casual writing, like here, I feel it conveys the way people are talking versus what's right and what's wrong. In forums like this, I tend to type how I talk and some ellipses here and there signify pausing for dramatic effect (or affect? effect, I think!)...to me, at least! haha

Ok, so I went to the gym tonight and the guy doing the stair climber in front of me had his shorts so big they were halfway down with his underweaar just hanging out like a 15 year old high school thug. Awesome. Add that to my pet peeves! Is this just a gym rant thread btw?

Ditto on that. whenever I see people talking on the phone on the elipticals I want to scream. You aren't really working out if you can still talk! Which reminds me of another pet peeve....girls who talk on their phone in the bathroom. I don't want to hear 1/2 your conversation while I'm in the stall next to you...and I'm sure the person on the other end of the phone doesn't really care to hear toilets flushing either! haha
Oops, guilty as charged on that one, but only if I'm talking to somebody (like my best friend) I know wouldn't care if I was peeing on the phone with them.

Not owning your mistakes. You blew it. Admit it, apologize and go on.

I thought of more! Sorry in advance if any of this offends or applies to you.
I hate it when people pronounce words wrong! I just heard "avance" instead of "advance" there's a D in there! Supposebly...it's supposedly. And they're not "valentimes" that your kids give out to their class.
I know there are more that bother me, but I'm forgetting them at the moment.

haha! I am! However, I am guilty and when it comes to casual writing, like here, I feel it conveys the way people are talking versus what's right and what's wrong. In forums like this, I tend to type how I talk and some ellipses here and there signify pausing for dramatic effect (or affect? effect, I think!)...to me, at least! haha
effect :D And yeah, when I type on a forum like this, I use a TON of !!!!!!!!!!!! and............... and ( ) and couldn't care less (another one people say is could care less). I write proposals at work though, and those I am meticulous about.

But here's one of my biggest pet peeves...not using the correct of:
to / too / two
your / you're
they're / their / there
it's / its
a lot / alot (is alot even a word?)
Have people never heard of 'possessive'? Seriously.
Gimme that instead of give me that. Fine in a forum, bad in a face to face conversation.
I spose instead of I suppose.
My biggest pet peeve is text talk. It's one thing to use abbreviated statements; LOL, OMG, etc. I hate seeing ur, 2day.... It just drives me nuts to have to decipher what someone is trying to say.

Alot is not a word :) I do SOME text talking, but ONLY when I'm texting. I only have 160 characters per text, so I use numbers and ur, but I am not extreme I don't think. A good friend of mine types really bad "text abbr." on all her LONG Facebook statuses, and it drives me nuts!
Oh and I though of another. Loose and lose. So many people get that wrong when typing.

I have Sprint/Nextel. It's a work phone so I don't have a choice though. LOL, I'm gonna get in so much trouble for the amount of texts I use. They just had to bump me to 1,000 texts a month to save $1,200 a month for my department (oops!) and I know I've gone over that this month alone. I told my boss I would pay if they'll give me unlimited. He said to just wait until I go over and then see what they say. Yeah, GREAT plan! LOL, but it's just not worth it for me to have 2 phones because my work phone has to be on me at all times.

You guys crack me up! Yes, add the following to the list: expresso, libary, could care less, etc.
I have Verizon too and I hate the 160 character limit to non-Verizon users...yet they can send WAY more than 160 characters and it just comes through in more than one text (add that to the list, people using then instead of than).
As far as "a lot" goes, I know that is correct and "alot" isn't a word, but when I read "a lot" I think of "a lot of parked cars" not "many things." That's just what goes on in my head...sorry.

Here's a BIG pet peeve:
People that ask you questions and won't tell you WHY!
My friend texted me last night and asked me somebody's name (whom she doesn't know or have any association with). I asked her why, what's up? I left her a v/m asking her why and an email this morning. I got back an email saying "What's his name?", again I asked why and got no response. I sent another email saying what's up, and I'm just curious why. She just replied "Never mind, it wasn't a big deal, I just wanted to know his name".
WHY????????????????? I don't get it!!! Why not just TELL me WHY you want to know. It wasn't even a big deal to tell her, but I wanted to know WHY. Is that asking to much?
Ok, rant over.

First off, can't you see I'm wearing headphones and have NEVER talked to you in the past? Leave me alone, let me lift and get out of there so I can get back to the message board.
Second, why is everyone always so surprised to see someone wearing a Dodgers or Lakers shirt? Surprise, you're not the only LA sports fan in LA. It was okay back in NC if someone saw me wearing Dodgers gear to bring it up, but out here? Come on people.

LOL, my pet peeve is the toilet paper roll hung the "wrong" way. I don't like when it comes out from underneath. But that's just my own OCD thing. I have a lot of quirks, but none that I really let get under my skin.

What if people are just craving human interaction or just want to be your friend, so they are finding some common ground to talk to you and here you are shutting them down, and making fun of them. ;)
I don't need those sh!%%y gym friends. I hate going there and everyone that is there. If they need human interaction, do what the rest of us do and get hammered at a bar.

Hey! I go to the gym! LOL, if you hate it so much, WHY do you go? Why not just grab some weights and workout at home? Or at the Y? You seem to have a LOT of gym issues there, lol. For me, I go to the gym, I run, I leave. Nothing else in between. Yer funny.

What you're looking at in my pictures didn't happen by accident. It took days of sculpting and hard work.
I do go to the Y, which I hate, it's crappy, the people suck, and it's too expensive, but it's within walking distance which trumps all the bad things about it, so I stay there.

Well, I used to go to an LA Fitness which I liked a lot better and it was about half the price, but I always used to use the excuse of not wanting to drive because traffic would suck, or this, or that, so I moved to the Y and I've stuck with going, I just have to deal with the crappy equipment and people. Maybe I should just move close to a better gym?

Nurses who pull the tape off against the grain of the hair. What the feck?
Yeah that has to suck and I'm a nurse. I tell them sorry, but it's free waxing followed by "just remember im not the one who put the tape on your iv site all crazy like". Sometimes you cant help it if there is 10 pieces of tape going in different directions.
So my pet peeves are:
Patients who dont tell you everything they need when you go into the room. I make it a point every time to say "is there anything else I can get you?" They either say no, and 2 min later hit the call light, or they say I need this and this and this. Then you get back and they say oh I need this and this and this. And it goes on 3 or 4 times. I know i need the exercise but dang, our new hospital is 3 football fields long....making our department huge!
Second pet peeve is people who don't let you off the elevator before getting in. They stand in front of the door and as soon as it opens they walk in. If im in a pissy mood and im getting off the elevator, you better watch out because I will run right in to you and make some smart comment about your mother not teaching you any manners.
Ok...so my rant is over. Sorry its 4am and I havent had my lunch break yet. Low blood sugar....:p

I third or fourth this. DISGUSTING. First off, pee IN the toilet and second...Put the lid down so im not having to touch your pee lid you have pissed all over because you COULDNT make it in the toilet..
we are all girls where I work, and we have one man. The medical director..he is older and EVERYTIME without a doubt he goes in the restroom, pees alll over the seat, and ON THE FLOOR. Leaves the seat up, piss everywhere, AND doesnt flush. Considering he is the big guy around here NO ONE will say anything so we're all stuck cleaning someone elses' pee up :/ gross!

Why don't you put a computer printed sign up asking to clean up the toilet area when finished? I had to do that at my work. Our toilets take like 5 flushes for a PIECE of toilet paper to flush (not exaggerating), so people wouldn't flush more than once and I would get to see all SORTS of fun stuff. Think girl time. Yeah, disgusting. So I printed out and taped to the inside of each stall a note saying something to the effect of it may take more than one flush, etc... It worked though. Haven't gagged since then!

Its not a stall though, its a huge restroom. With one Toilet..and he wouldnt read it anyways..he is OLD, Rude, and a doctor who hasnt had to listen to anyone his whole life. Maybe I will think about that though. Good Idea, I tryed a sticky note one time, but someone tore it down and threw it away. I should really think about that, maybe even laminate it for its own protection. hmm.
