View Full Version : Kid Rock...seriously?

Ok, so its no secret that I'm not a Kid Rock fan. Don't get me wrong, he's a good musician and a talented singer - the guys just an a-hole. When he starting doing his country/honky-tonk stuff it was awesome, but as soon as he started with this other crap, I felt like leaving for the night - Kenny or not.
The crowd was definitely different for him (lot more white-trashers and bros) but even that started to cause a scene - those people have Coachella, give us Stagecoach!
If I had seen him at Coachella or Warped Tour I wouldn't complain, cuz I felt like he would have fit in, but having to sit thru him for AN HOUR AND A HALF was pretty miserable. The only time he had the whole crowd was when we did his TWO country songs and his 20 second honky-tonk bit. Everytime he had the crowd scream his name I wanted to slap him. Seriously, is he so insecure that he needs 40,000 people to sing his name repeatedly? And what was with this INSANELY long set time - did he think we was the headliner of the night? His 15 minute "look-at-me-I-can-play-every-instrument" encore got really old too. Also, I like to party as much as the next guy, but I could have gone without the vulgar references sung into the mic for 10 minutes while there's tons of families around. Kids don't need to be hearing that crap.
We came to Stagecoach to see COUNTRY artists, not some washed up, trashy pop singer who is still trying to convince people he's a cowboy (not working!). Let's get some real acts back in here - some George Straight, Dierks, Travis Tritt, Jason Aldean, Carrie...something. The only thing worth seeing Kid Rock for was to hear Miranda Lambert tell him she was going to shoot him. Ha! Let's hope the talent buyers don't book this guy again!

I'm going to have to disagree.. I wasn't a huge Kid Rock fan. At all. I've only ever liked one song by him and that was "Picture".
Seeing him perform gave me a whole new respect for him. He puts on a hell of a good show and knows how to keep people standing.. unlike Kenny who I'm sorry was just boring.
But that's just my opinion. To each his own :)

Ok I'm so glad to read this...
I thought exactly the same thing and was wondering if I was loosing it....
I tell you it was safer at coachella fest crowd then this years stagecoach crowd.I'm thinking I'm done with this venue shoot after this year....

Agree agree agree agree.
Without question Kid Rock was the highlight of the weekend for me. Which is saying a lot considering I'm HUGE fans of both Brad and Kenny and I had very low expectations for Kid Rock. As I said in another thread, in five years Kid Rock will be the only thing I remember from SC 09.
Seriously.

I disagree too kid rock was probably the best show of the night me and all my friends were trying to figure out why he didnt go last because kenny didnt even get close to topping it, which is kind of disappointing. I will admit I wasnt expecting him to go so much into the rock BUT like you said he dosent have many country songs to begin with. It seemed to me that about 90% of the crowd enjoyed him regardless. Anyways, I thought kid rock put on the best show out of BOTH days, sorry kenny was disappointing.

Before Kid came on, I told my friend "Oh he's probably gonna get boo'd off stage". Boy was I wrong! He was the highlight of my weekend also. By far.
I loved seeing Country Music Lovers (like myself) being able to enjoy Kid Rock.

If any of you missed Hot Club of Cowtown on the Mustang stage, its a shame. Fantastic set. However, they did play during Kid Rock so most of the crowd was at Mane stage. Don't get me wrong, I did catch the end of Kid Rock's set and he put on quite a show.

I didn't have a clue what to expect - except that I probably wouldn't like it... I was soooooooooooo wrong..... one of the highlights of the weekend - right up there with Poco and Ralph Stanley - and of all the Mane stage acts - even for the past several years- Kid Rock did a show that was thought out and for Stagecoach - not something out of the can like most of the headliners (not complaining) - very origional - delightfully offensive - and while I'm far (very far) from his demographic - if I could only have a recording of the songs that were tailor made for Stagecoach.
Talk about a tough act to follow - Made Chesney look weak IMO (which he was - mostly because they didn't take the time for a sound check - couldn't hear his voice 1/2 the time)

That is so true. While I was watching him I couldn't help but think about how much effort he put into preparing this performance JUST for Stagecoach.
This is not a show he's ever put on before or will ever put on again. This was one-and-done just for us.
True, the other performers probably don't have to tweak their performances for SC, but I imagine if the Eagles had put half the thought into their performance last year I might have enjoyed them a lot more. Or if people like Kenny and Tim McGraw treated us with more respect they would have done better.
Kudos to Kid Rock. If I ever have a chance to see him in concert he sold a ticket with the SC performance. Prior to that I would have had no interest. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Nailer - GREAT SHOTS! Where were you sitting and what kind of camera/lens did you use?
thanks for the compliment.
my "seat" was in the HC riser. for most of the Kid pictures i was stading in front of the mixer. the camera was my new 50D and the lens was a sigma 70-200.
i didnt want to bring the canon lens as it qualifies as "pro-gear". i am far from a pro as it takes me a mess of pictures to get any good ones, and i make no money with them. just for fun. (for the record)
i'm glad you enjoy them.
check your pm's.
uscpsycho
04-27-2009, 12:55 PM
I don't think they have a list of bodies/lenses that qualify as pro gear. If that 70-200 was a 2.8 then most places wouldn't let you in because it's so big. The ushers haven't a clue between a Sigma or Tamron or Canon.
Was the lens a 2.8 and did you sneak it in or have it hanging around your neck when you came in?

it was not snuck in. they went through my bag and saw it plain as day.
they even threw out my unopened red bull. :D
it is a 2.8 lens, but it is all "consumer grade" equipment.
nothing pro about it.
i wish it had the image stabilizer... i sure could have used it :D

I'm kinda some where in the middle of this whole Kid Rock luv em/Hate em thing. Yes, I thought he was a great performer and was rather surprised with his vocal quality. I wasn't looking forward to seeing him, but once he took the stage, he had me and my friends on our feet. The down side, I had my 11 year old and her friend with me. I had already given them fair warning about Kid Rocks "potty mouth", but I honestly didn't appreciate his "song" he sang with his drummer. A** and B**** I can handle, but I could have done without that one song.
Loved "Picture" with Miranda....I prefer that version over the Sheryl Crow one.

I agree 100%, especially about the vulgar speech. Stagecoach is billed as a family friendly event, unlike Coachella. Event organizers should keep that in mind next time they consider booking someone like Kid Rock. Were Kenny not following, I suspect half of the crowd would have walked out.

Kid Rock was my least favorite artist of the weekend. There were too many children (mine included) that didn't need to hear his vulgarity. And Kid Rock went on waaay too long for his set. If it weren't for Kenny, we would have been out of there. I am glad we stayed. Kenny was great. ;)

Kid Rock was the best act of Stagecoach '09 followed by The Charlie Daniels Band and The Reverend Horton Heat. I do agree that he could have either toned down some of his language for this venue or put out a bit of warning as some of the others did. I have seen him before and will say that this was pretty tame.
I have seen Kenny before (2004 tour) and wasn't impressed with his act then or now. I like his music but that is about it.

imo, once the sun goes down it is adult time, especially once the clock hits the 9/10 o'clock hour. i understand kid rock was on earlier, but even then, they are just words. as long as you are raising your kids right a few vulgarities here and there should not be that big a problem. they hear much worse from their friends at school on a daily basis anyways.

I think you're 100% wrong. I'm so sick of people thinking a little is ok. IT"S NOT. I don't take my kids to Coachella beacause it's billed toward adults. always interesting what parents find ok vs vulgar for their young children. Walking around the festival - I can only assume that:
Drunk is OK,
almost (and in many cases leaving nothing to the imagination) NAKED is OK,
Tee shirts, Shorts and Tattoo's with Vulgar (Same as Kid Rocks lyrics) words and sayings any 2nd grader should be able to read is OK.
Very Public Displays of Affection are OK
It is a family festival - and there are all kinds of families...... and we all have choices.....
Ralph Stanley was fantastic.... and
Too bad you missed Roger Alan Wade at SC 1 :):):)

Yikes, getting kind of heated on this subject. I am a mother of 3 small children and personally LOVED Kid Rock's performance. I did not bring them to Stagecoach because it is a festival not Disneyland. There is loud music, extreme heat and alcohol with a line-up containing an artist who is well known for their not so family oriented music. I was looking more forward to seeing Kenny but after Kid Rock's performance I was totally not impressed by Kenny and left after his 4th or 5th song.

I was going to use Kid Rock (to a lesser extent, Kenny Chesney) as a bathroom break.
Never cared much for Kid Rock, especially at a "COUNTRY" event.
If he had ended his set at the explosion - (the first ending), I would have found his act to be the single most memorable of the weekend.
HOWEVER:
By the FOURTH ending - he had completely lost me, my wife, and everyone around me. He went on WAAAAYYY too long. WAYYY WAY too long. I couldn't wait for it to end.
When he finally called it quits, the only people cheering were because it was finally over.
If he (KR) had ended his set at the explosion, Kenny Chesney could have come out to an electrified crowd. But as it were KR went on WAY too long, and afterwards KC took WAY too long to come onstage, and people were streaming out the exits.
Just about three encores too many, and the "I wanna **** you one more time" song totally killed it for me.

I get what Kid Rock is.....I've met him a few times in the past and Robert Ritchie is not KID ROCK...Robert Ritchie is a down to earth person. So when I heard he was performing at Stagecoach, at first I was hesitant to bring my kids, but believed this to be a family festival. Kind of wondering what Goldenvoice has to say about his performance. Somebody there had to take into consideration the language Kid uses.
And like I said....A** and B**** didn't bother so much...in our house we call those adult words. My kids think stupid and shut up are bad words too. I could have done without c*** and f*** her......multiple time.
When it comes to the kids ,I think I'll stick to Jonas Bros and Taylor Swift concerts for now!!! LOL (for now at least)

He could have almost converted me.
I was in reserved seating, and throughout his set, people were on their feet, dancing, singing. The place EXPLODED at the end. . . . then - he came out again with Miranda. OK, maybe a good idea ? .. . . people were now seated.
After that, people headed for the heads. Packing their reserved chairs. And yet - it continued. People waiting for Kenny Chesney getting pissed off. People that actually had to work in the morning heading for the exits without having seen the Sunday headliner.
It was that bad.
If I was Kenny Chesney, I would be SO pissed off. And maybe that is the reason that his performance seem 'less that inspired' . . . .

I must admit that before last night the thought of seeing Kid Rock at a country music festival seemed amusing to me, but I must admit I was really impressed with his show and the quality of voice. I still don't think he is country, but I loved his performance and it was such a treat to hear him sing with Miranda Lambert. After Kid Rock played, Kenny really should have tried harder and they should have done a better sound check. I almost felt like Kenny went on stage angry and defeated. I do think Kid Rock should have thought a little bit more about who he was playing for and thought about all those children out in the crowd. Even though the song was kind of amusing, it was in bad taste to play it at this venue. All in all, he rocked!

I was most offended by Brad Paisley playing "Alcohol". With all those kids in the audience, he should not be dedicating an entire song to how great alcohol is. Come on Brad, you should be a better role model than that.

What are you nutz? When you go to a family oriented outing no matter what time of day it is just words or not, you shouldn't have to have this type of vulgarity and sexually oriented phrases as I stuck my d*&^% in her ^% is just not acceptable for alot of us with or with out children. They are a consideration but not the main topic of this kind of vulgarity. He should be at coachella fest where he belongs. At least two and 1/2 of his songs were great.

I took my almost 11 year old son and he was pretty oblivious to the music on the stage for most of the 2 days. He perked up during ZBB as "Chicken Fried" is a favorite of his, but he was more interested in playing with the other kids (all much younger than him). exploring the grounds, playing his DS or napping. I don't think he paid any attention to the lyrics....or the drunks (and there were plenty of those!)
Cooter - doesn't GV market Stagecoach as a family-friendly event? The fact that kids under 14 were free this year certainly didn't help make it an "adult" event....

people have the option to bring their kids and they offer stuff for the kids to do. but, having said that, it is still an all day rock festival with lots and lots of drinking and partying going on. anyone with any sense should know there will be a lot of stuff going on that they may not want their kids to see. when i have brought my kids we show up early in the day and leave at sundown because things aren't going to get more mellow at that point, it can only get crazier. if you bring your kids you should be prepared to leave when the time is right. if that is because they are tired, you do it. if it is because of the crowd, you do it. you can't keep your kids around there and then complain that they were forced to see/hear things.

Again, I think I have to say I agree with you, Cooter.
We left mid-Brad on Saturday night because my boy was just d.o.n.e. for the day. I guess I'm lucky that he's is pretty oblivious to what is going on around him :) I didn't feel I had to explain anything to him because I don't think he was aware of the "stuff" that was going on...had he asked questions, I would have tried to explain adults being crazy and/or drunk....
Also, I did my research and found out what kid-friendly stuff was going on....we spent time doing BBQ "research" and looking at the eco-friendly exhibits. He got to do some leather-crafting and wander around all the booths. He even bought me a Stagecoach necklace!
I originally bought tickets planning on an "adult" weekend - plans that fell through on lots of different levels. I chose to bring my son knowing that it might not be totally appropriate. Luckily for us, it all worked out great!
I LOVED KID ROCK!

I have to agree with most of the people on this board. Kid Rock was my favorite performance by far! My husband has been talking about Kenny for years now and he was the entire reason we went. I was so disappointed and I thought i was crazy but half of the time i couldn't hear him and there was like a second delay on the big tv's so it was tough to understand him. I didn't experience that with anyone else.
By far, I am now a kid rock fan and he sold me a ticket if he ever comes to town again! Another one that shocked me that i really enjoyed was D. Ruckers. He was great. I think i just might go out and buy his album. And of course Brad, he was a class act all the way. I didn't see all of the concerts but i sure did appreciate how both Kid Rock and Brad thanked us for spending our recession money on seeing them. They might have lowered the tic prices but shoot, the beer and food and the two mile hick to the RV cost us more than the tics and camping put together.
Oh, side comment, those food and beer lines were RIDICULOUS!
Just saying
I get to listen to your kids whine in a restaurant...I get to listen to your kids SCREAM in a movie theatre...I get to listen to your kids having a MAJOR breakdown at a supermarket.... and NEVER say a word
But you have a problem with me enjoying a CONCERT that I paid good money to see that it's not "kid friendly enough" for your children????

Unless you're fine with the stoners, the Sahara tents filth, and a cloud of shrooms..I dont see why you would even consider it.

Oh and the guy that passed out during Lady A..and his girlfriend taking pictures of him laughing..then realizing that the cops were all around him lol
Ok I get that but I'm no kid and he offended me with that potty mouth white trash mentality talk....I mean come on artist or trash....
Yes a great performer but save the talk for the porn channel....
It was to much also for my parents.not everyone over the age of 16 uese street talk to be fun...Just gross...
Also really sad to see all the lost souls out there...
Ok, I said my peace and It is all my opion and proud of it....:D:):D
P.S great to see you rose.I have photos to post soon...
It was great to see you and I had such a great time at the Jackalope (sorry mommie)
artist or trash???
I know Elvis is your dad's favorite (mine too, BTW) lots of glass house syndrom.."Elvis the Pelvis" was BANNED back in the day hehehe. Plus drugs, cheating etc... I prefer to put that all on "ignore" and remember him as the KING and great memories with my parents.
Today's artist's will be laughed at...when "back in the day" comes.
Remember the two separate beds for Lucy & Ricky or the no belly button showing for I dream of Jeanie....(wish they had that bully button rule for stagecoach) hehehe Times do change.

imo, once the sun goes down it is adult time, especially once the clock hits the 9/10 o'clock hour. i understand kid rock was on earlier, but even then, they are just words. as long as you are raising your kids right a few vulgarities here and there should not be that big a problem. they hear much worse from their friends at school on a daily basis anyways.
I agree and disagree, it is suppose to be a family oriented place so it dosent really mean there is an "adult time" why would the parents take their kids home just cuz the sun goes down. But i definatly agree, he wasnt saying fuck every 10 seconds its just a few words. Its the parents responsibility to raise their kids to know that those words arent appropriate and like you said your kids hear words like that on an everyday basis, im pretty sure this concert wasnt the first time they head the "F" word.
Bottom line, kid rock kicked some FUCKIN ass!

Had a great time at SC'09!!! "The Kid" rocked!!!! I'm no bible thumper, but could have done without the "extreme vulgarity" in his show. Sayin' that, and I don't care for "rap", (can't understand the sh*t!), he is one hell of an entertainer and puts on a driving, upbeat show for the crowd!!
The whole 2 days was filled with good music and fun. I would like to see the monitors mounted higher so us in the back can see better. All in all, we had a good time!!!!

I wasn't expecting to like Kid Rock as much as I did. He put on a great performance!! And if you didn't want to see Kid Rock you could have wandered over to the other 2 stages...the mane stage wasn't the only action at that time.

I would also like to add that people who didn't like Kid Rock KNEW he was going to be at Stagecoach since what.. November? You know what his music is, and what he is capeable of doing in his concerts. I'm sure there were "nice" acts at the other Stages you could have taken your kids to see..
Kid Rock is Kid Rock and there is no changing him.

While the Kid was obnoxiously entertaining, he really did not belong at stagecoach. I think the taylor made crap is exactly that CRAP! how does the histroy of hip hop, rap and supposedly redneck rock fit into country music festival. Would I go see him again? Probably, but I still think it was a mistake to have him at the festival.
Here is why.
County music spans generations. It is generaly with the exception of a few artists a very family oriented form of entertainment. I love to see all ages coming out to enjoy themselves. I literally sat behind two women mother and daughter who were I'm guessing ages late 50's and late 70's. How great is that and I'm here to tell you that grandma was rocking out. I loved it. She cringed during Kid rock. She said her heart was breaking "It is a shame vulgarity is so easily excepted", they left before Kenny hit the stage and they were in front of me the night before to the very last strum of Paisly's guitar.
I feel like he is self indulgent and irrespoinsible not to mention unprofessional. I'm sure I'm not the only person who noticed that he went over into Kenny's time slot and I can almost guarentee that was half of the problem with Kenny's show. He seemed pissed off!
So, yes while entertaining, it was an unfortunate blunder on the mainstage and I believe the people who put on this show should consider just how much money they get from families and no I was not with my family. Thank God!!!!

there were plenty of other places to go for that whole entire miserable hour if you didn't want your kids to hear kid rock.
don't get me wrong, i *loved* having kids at the event but this is an *ALL* ages event, not gymboree!

ha ha ha.. just read this..almost fell off my chair laughing!!!!
Just got a glance of recent posts...Whoever has the flu just wondering if you are feeling better? Indio High School has just been closed for a probable case of the Swine Flu. The initial testing is positive and they are testing 22 other people. I'm sure that you don't have it but just kind of made me nervous knowing we were in Indio with like 60,000 people.
