Police investigate allegations of sex assault at Stagecoach
Bruce Fessier • The Desert Sun • April 27, 2009
Indio police are investigating a sexual assault complaint that allegedly happened during the Brad Paisley set Saturday at the Stagecoach Country Music Festival.
Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said the nature of the assault isn't known, but the victim is a Coachella Valley resident who said she was assaulted by two men on the Empire Polo Club field at 10 p.m. It wasn't known if the men were festivalgoers or workers. The woman didn't know the names of her alleged assailants.
An investigation is ongoing, Guitron said.

Wow I'm sure that was the small part of all the horrible stuff going on this year....
I gotta say how dissapointed I was in our own police taking or should i say loosing control of this venue due to the money it brings in....
I for one was appauld at the crowd they had in this year...
It made the coachella crowd look sane.....
The fire lanes were a joke and kids should have no way been at this drunk fest.
It was so unsafe many family members with small kids were leaving due to so many saftey concerns and even children missing.
This is no longer a safe family event.
They really blew it...
Money and greed wins once more...:mad::eek::mad:
Oh P.S
Did I mention I always try and stay positive????Ok I will have another cup of coffee and post what parts were positive....Thinking real hard...

I agree, the crowd this year was more out of control than in years past. ESPECIALLY Sunday.
But why do you say money and greed wins out? Didn't they significantly reduce the price this year? Or do you mean that they reduced personnel (or should have increased it) to save money?
On Sunday I was at the very front of the GA area against the fence. I literally felt penned in. I had so much trouble getting back in during Miranda that I vowed not to leave again. I was pretty sure if I left I would never make it back, especially in the dark. Not because people were behaving badly but there were just too many people clogging the fire lanes making it very difficult to navigate. Especially in areas where there was an intersection of fire lanes.
As the night wore on I heard stories about people peeing in the grass, projectile beer, etc.
Not cool.

Oh my...
I was caught in a group of drunks that fell on a small child it could have been deadly..
I witnessed a lady talking to Indio PD requesting help to find a lost child...
Emergency vehicle not being able to move a very ill women thru the crowds.
Fire lanes with no acess even for press that waere closed to to emergency.
Parents with small children being escorted out to 52nd street to be able to leave saftly before dark..
The list goes on and on...
I 'm not freaked in large crowds.Yet at one time before miranda I had decided I was done shooting due to saftey..
They did give low prices yet way over sold General Admission and had tons on empty seats in every section .
P1 was so empty...
Why not move eveyone who paid up if they could not sell the seats...
Everyone bought 99.00 and there were no way enough security per ticket sold...:mad:
Nor was there enough room for safe fire lanes .If a panic had set out many would have been killed.
Very unsafe.
Wait till I post the photos you will see there was no way to find your place once you left...
Nor get to it....
Crazy....
I may not go next year...

Oh yes..
I had a guy start blowing chunks while walking thru the crowd...All over someone. The drunk crowd was cheering...
Come on..
That is so sad.
Have some drinks and a little fun yet this weekend was like a running for the the biggest Alcholic and who had the saddest case of the horrible illness.....
What a great group of individuals for our young one to aspire to be....

Some lady who was old enough to be my mother was in the front of GA, against the fence just a few feet away from me. This crazy bitch was unhooking the fence from the posts and trying to knock it over.
This certainly would have caused a stampede of people rushing forward. I can only imagine how many people would have been trampled by this. I went over to yell at her and kept an eye on her the rest of the night.

did you guys like anything about the show, or were you too focused on the few bad things that were going on?
with all of those people in there, it could have gone terribly wrong. I'd say with the numbers, they did a pretty good job.
the first night they apparently realized there was a problem with the access, and did some pretty big changes to it to make it easier to move people from one side to the other.
i covered the whole place numerous times, and didn't see much that was out of control.
lets see those pictures.

For the most part...I think they did a good job with the set up. I think they need to reconsider the merch tent to the right of the stage. Either move them back more or move them to the outer perimeter. I understand the concern about the children. I can honestly say I was blesed to be around some cool folks and had no probs. Thank you Jesus!! If Goldenvoice wants to make this a family event again, maybe they should consider a GA Family zone???? IDK. I hate to complain too.....but drunk cowboys and even drunker girls does not make for a good time for all in my book.
My final rant...I DID NOT APPRECIATE PEOPLE HAVING SEX IN THE PORTA POTTIES!!!!! It happened numerous times over the weekend and security just laughed. <<< Maybe I'm gettin to old for this>>> ::

We sat next to the fence on the left side, middle section. I couldn't believe that they were letting people set up chairs, blankets, etc. in the fire lane. Then again, there just wasn't anywhere for these people to go....
Sex in the porta-potties???? Ewwwwww.

yep, gross, but i used one with a condom wrapper in the urinal... yuckers... but they were selling condoms at the general store inside... can you imagine condoms for sale at a Honda or Staples Center concert? How stupid is that...
I acutally enjoyed this year.... I was in P2 section there were tons of extra seats. plenty of room.... to enjoy our selfs... I spent most of the time in the vip areas but did go watch CDB at the other stage and it was packed over there... and getting backt to my seat for Reba was nearly impossiable... i had to fight through the crowd just to get to the gate to the vip area... and let me tell you all, some refused to let me through....but one thing i wish they would do for 2010 is have a lil reserved/ vip area for the mustang and other stage for the people who have the Vip. It was a great time... almost as good as last year! I also hope that they get Toby Keith for 2010!!! Im sorry for those who had a bad time...

This was my first time at Stagecoach, and while my friends and I had a great time, we were surprised at the lack of organization. We were unable to camp, and waited over TWO hours for a cab. There were hardly any showing up to pick anybody up. It was a real buzz kill for us after the first day. Some of my friends even drove home early and skipped the show the second day. I'm not that dramatic. The rest of us just drove and one person stopped drinking early the second day. And I am glad we stayed. What a great show, but I'm sorry, I LOVE Kenny, and he was disappointing. But I loved Brad Paisley, Kid Rock, Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum, and Zac Brown Band!!

it is not the job of the festival to organize cabs. you have to understand, this is not a large metropolitan city, it's not like there are hundreds of cabs available just for the fest.

Well I didn't witness anything negative goin down, so I guess I can't voice on that, although Sunday was WAY too crowded and during Miranda Lambert I decided to just stay put the rest of the night (except my MANY bathroom breaks!). Will say I found a chicks underwear and used condom in a porta potty. Nice people, get a tent!

If they take the time to block off streets all over town and set up designated "cab drop-off and pick-up areas," you'd think they would do something to actually get cabs there. Or maybe they already got my ticket money so they don't care....?

I totally agree with the Crowds!!! It was horrible!! I tried not to let the crowd hinder my time but it was just soo bad! The Beer garden area was sooooo crowded I didnt even want to drink! And the crowds on the grass was worse!! God forbid you had to leave your seat it was a mess to get through. Not only that you have people pissed out about walking near you. Last year was soooooo much better! I really think they need to go back to $100 a day! The $99 pass made it more affordable everyone and their momma lol But on a positive note all of Sunday's performers were excellent! I loveeeed Kid Rock!! He was amazing. But anyways heres my two cents haha

Ohhh man, I did feel unsafe many times during the show -- mostly Sunday. Saturday, we sat up our chairs right in front (behind the fire lane and the "standing room only/no chair" section), only for it to fill up with chairs and the huuuggeee fire lane turned into a fire lane that was only wide enough for maybe two people to walk through.
Sunday was way worse. I was with USCPhycho and saw the lady trying to break down the fence (where the Saturday standing room only was now just normal seating), wanting to rush the ADA/VIP section. Meanwhile, security was busy taking pics and being celebs with the chicks on the other side of us. There needed to be smaller walking lanes in that area too.
The worst on Sunday were the bathrooms near the BBQ area right before Kid Rock. People were banging on the stalls, pouring beer on people in line. I thought a riot was going to break out.
Next year, if the economy is still rough and they want to keep prices down, maybe make the VIP section smaller in order to create just a tad more room...?

I was quite shocked... I thought it was going to be more of a family event. I am one of those 20 somethings you guys are referring to. I didn't have ONE beverage inside of the venue due to my concern for my safety and of course my lil bro. When people are that hammered I have realized it's smart to be SMART and not indulge in the beverages.
I also hung with the crowd I knew, and am glad I did so. I really had NO CLUE just how crazy/wild this event would be .... It doesn't/wouldn't surprise me if there was sexual assault with varying degrees.... SAD.... We witnessed one girl walking back on Saturday night ALONE, falling all over the fence posts, and walking in a very distressed manner we walked her back to her rig and left... Never could figure out why she was walking alone, barefoot, and sooo wasted... There was no regulation on underage drinking not once during the nights of the huge parties were people CARDED even. I have been inside of bars and carded by a police officer...

I heard this morning from someone who's husband worked Coachella, but did not work SCF this year. She said that due to budget cuts they only allowed a fraction of law enforcement to work the festival. Her husband caught so many sexual encounters, they finally decided to ask the law breakers if they could name all of the beatles, they could they would get off with a warning and not go to jail. My daughter who is a Senior in HS, ran into a group of her classmates.. 18 year olds without parental supervision (and that is fine, they are adults), but with two beers in each hand. She politely declined to "hang out" with them. Making me wonder, whom over the age of 21 thinks it is cool to buy 18 year olds drinks? Oh it must be those that make a profit off of each beer without an IQ of 10... Other than that we sat in the VIP section and had a great time.
