Hello Everyone,

This year will be my first time attending stagecoach, which I am very excited about. This is also my first year dealing with type 1 diabetes, which I am less excited about. Anyway, I'm wondering if any of the veteran diabetics out there can give me any advice/suggestions on storing my insulin while at the festival?? I know that the FAQ page states that they will provide a "secure area for diabetics", and they will "aid in storing insulin" but I don't quite know how extensive this service will be. I've tried emailing the info contact through stagecoach, but have gotten no reply. Should I pack my insulin in a small cooler and bring it that way?? I know no coolers are allowed, but if I can show that there is clearly nothing else in my small cooler, will it be allowed?? Any light that can be shed on this issue would be GREATLY appreciated...This is a rather new diagnosis so any pointers, info, or suggestions are welcome!!!

Thanks everyone!!!!:)

I'm sure they are set up to deal with this type of situation....I think that your best bet is to go straight to the medical tent or security when you get there and ask about what arrangements they have for storing insulin.

You don't say whether you are camping there or not, but I'm sure everything will work out just fine.

ENJOY!!!

Thanks for the info :) We aren't camping, and now I wonder if that would have been a better idea so I could have access to all of MY snacks instead of having to guess what may or may not be in that BBQ sauce, hot dog bun, or anything else one might enjoy at this sort of event ;) I suppose I will just have to hope that everything will work out!!
Thanks again!

You're welcome. Check back on this thread as I'm sure someone else with more experience than me will chime in....

From what I've gathered so far, Stagecoach people take care of each other ~ so don't hesitate to ask any questions! We're all here to have the best time possible!!!

My husband just started on insulin too. We don't keep his cold, once he starts a new bottle. I would call your doctor also and let em know you are going and you might cheat a little. They might have you up it like 1 unit. How many times do you take your insulin. Also make sure you have some "Glucose tablets", with you at all times in case your blood sugars ever go down to fast.

I take a long-acting insulin once a day, and a rapid acting insulin anywhere from 3-5 times each day, depending on how often I eat. I don't keep open vials cold either, but I am worried about them getting too hot and spoiling if I carry them with me throughout the day...I think I'm just going to bring a small cooler filled with my supplies and hope the medical folks will be in a good mood when we arrive!! Good point about the glucose tabs. I have a tube with me at all times, but I also stocked up and got the costco-sized jar that should hold me over until 2010 :)

Thanks for the help everyone!
