View Full Version : REAL country music festival

It would have been nice if this had been a real country music festival. Get rid of all the pop-music jerks and bring in more real country like Wayne Hancock, Hank Williams III, and Heather Myles. If this had been done I bet tickets would have been around $65 for a two day pass.

Unfortunately, a lot of fans of genuine country music aren't going to go...because we have to pay inflated prices for inflated pop-music egos.

Thank God there are country artists out there who believe in the real deal and keep their egos in check.

So why are you even here posting if this isnt something "we"(including you) dont even want to pay the money for? You know some of the bigger acts charge almost that amount for their own headlining show so whats wrong with paying that and getting more bang for your buck?

BluesBob,

While I am 100% with you that it would be amazing to have a festival of REAL country music artists it would never be able to come together on a scale this large with those acts.

As much as I bitch and moan about horrible sub-standard pop BS country music, it is the fact that there are tons of yuppie J.O.s out there that have never heard a real country song in their lives coming out to see acts like Kenny Chestnut that the event can actually happen.

I'm looking at it like I would probably pay 60 bucks each to see Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Neko Case, or EmmyLou Harris. The total of those tickets would be $240 so it is still a fairly decent deal (even though the sets will be much shorter).

So let the mindless CMT sheep roll out to the big stages, I'm stoked I will be able to get a decent view of some real country aritsts.

BTW, I'm curious what you would think of the stuff I am working on. I seem to get a lot of Hank III and Shooter fans at my site. If you want to check it out go to www.myspace.com/williecash.

Take it easy,
WC

Good for them. Hank III, Shooter and Myself do it differently.

Why do you care if someone curses in a song?

"NO PROFANITY ZONE!!!!!!!!!! IF I WANT HEAR THAT, I'LL SWITCH TO HIP HOP
OUR CULTUR IS A LANDFILL OF CRAP ALREADY WHY ADD MORE"

Ummm... Could you please clarify? What is a no profanity zone? Your home? This board? Country Music in General? Country music I make?

I do agree that many aspects of our "CULTUR" (I am assuming you mean "culture") have gone the way of the steam engine. What I don't understand is; why music made by adults for adults that you can choose to listen to or not should have it's content approved by you? Who is sam-hill are you to say certain subject matter and/or language is off limits?

If you mean this board and this board only, I apologize. This is a place where kids (hopefully) come as well as adults and there really isn't a place for cursing. But if you mean in music in general, you should read the Constitution. There is a great bit in there called the 1st amendment. I don't know if you are familiar with the document but it basically gives Americans the right to be as stupid or "unCULTURed" as we care to be.

By the way, if you could keep the swearing down to a minumum I am sure it would be appreciated. I don't think curse words like "CRAP" should be on this board...

CAPITALS ARE EASIER TO READ. NO ONE ELSE COMPLAINS.

Uh, I wouldn't say "no one else complains." I find caps very annoying and not in the least easier to read. It just makes you look like you're hysterical and detracts from any sort of logical argument you may be trying to make. It's like screaming for no reason -- do people take you seriously when you do that? No, they back away in a "let's get away from this nut" sort of manner.

Try talking "to" the people, not "at" the people and see how much further you get...

The reason why Alan and George don't need to add profanity, or act in a vulgar manner, is because they are TRUE TALENT all the way. They are also Christian men and are 'not afraid' to show that..Kudos to these men!!

AJForever
01-15-2007, 10:30 AM
I think 'caps' are fine when used to 'state or demonstrate' a certain thing, but if they are used all of the time, then alot of people turn away. BUT, I also agree that if the 'subject or contents' are interesting, people will look at it regardless...

menikmati

Don't make someone a martyr that doesn't hide the fact that he has the same religious beliefs as 99.99% of his audience.

If these guys were athiests and not afraid to let people know, that would be an accomplishment in standing up for what you believe when it's risky to do so. But having the courage to say you are christian as a country musician is like saying it takes courage for a fish to admit he likes water.

The way you say it, it sounds like these guys have something to fear by letting the world know they are christians.

At least 20 years past I had the opportunity to see Bobby Bare at the Central States Fair in Rapid City, SD. While waiting to enter the grandstand area, the PA announced the show would not go???? Bobby's bus was sitting within eyesight of the long line that had formed??? He had to have been passed out in his bus. Classic. Many people were bummed...not me...The ticket was probably like $8...big deal....my guess is Marie Lavaux took advantage of him in his drunken stupor!!! Another man done gone!!! Townes, JJ, and Guy would be proud !!

I have to admit part of the reason I'm attending this event is to see CMT icons George and Alan (never have seen either live but plenty of their stuff in my collection)... but I HAVE seen Robert Earl Keene, Pat Green, Wayne "The Train" Hancock (mentioned earlier but alas, not appearing this event), Junior Brown, Lucinda Williams, the Old 97's, Chris Hillman and Herb Peterson (the two of them just out here in the OC a couple of weeks ago) and I'm stoked about seeing those acts/performers again at this event. I'm equally fired up about seeing the bluegrass pickers: Del McCoury, Earl Scruggs, Ricky Skaggs... and I'm "intrigued" by what Raul Malo (post Mavericks and last I heard a Mambo King wannabe... albeit a good one..) may be bringing to the table.

All in all, enough "real country" music over the course of two days to justify the cost... IMHO.

Oh poor little evengelical Christains, they have to listen to other peoples points of view and can't have public funded prayer in schools boo freaking hoo.....

They don't get religious text on statues in front of court houses sob, sob, sob....

You have to tolerate that some people (approx. 2%) don't believe that a ghost in the sky watches every move you make like Santa Claus waaah waah

What you do get is the power to elect a person that claims he personally speaks with God and is advised by him as to his divine will. If this guy was homeless we would call him schizophrenic.

Jesus Christ, give me a break......

I'll applaud the Country Artist that comes out and says he is an athiest or a Jew and see how the country audience applauds him for standing up for what he believes in.

The religious right will be the end of this country. If the socialists leftists don't get there first....

Our nation was founded by men who had strong faith in God, and it’s laws were based on the laws of God. The schools all honored the Lord and His Word, taught the truth of special creation, and enforced Biblical morality among the students. Today, God and anything associated with Him are banned from the classroom, His laws are no longer taken seriously in the courts and legislatures, and evolutionary humanism is, in effect, the state-endorsed religion. Divorce and immorality are affecting most of the nations homes; business and finance are ubiquitously plagued with greed and dishonesty; the sins of homosexuality, drunkenness, dishonesty, and drug use are rampant, and pantheistic New Age globalism is an imminent threat at our gates.

God would even have spared Sodom, though, if there had been ten righteous (Genesis 18:32), and America has evidently been spared thus far because it is still the nerve center of world missions and Christian literature, as well as aid for the sick and needy. The modern revival of true creationism is centered in this nation, and serious Biblical interest is growing in many places, yet worldliness, apostasy, and compromise are eating away at the heart of American Christianity, and there is a great need for a revival - not of religious emotionalism, but of genuine commitment to the integrity and authority of God’s Word.

I find it interesting that those who would use the first amendment as a shield to be just as rude and crude as they possibly can be, are those who shout the loudest when anything pertaining to God is mentioned. All the while claiming their right to do so. I agree, in this great nation, you have the right to be just as nice or naughty as you want to be. But, while you’re railing for your rights please keep this in mind, we Christians share the same right to free speech as ya’ll do.

Tell me, why is it those who wish to push the boundaries of decency to it’s utter limits and beyond are the very same people who scream the loudest when a Christian shares his personal point of view. If fact we are denied that fundamental right daily by those who claim First amendment rights!

So, when a singer stands in front of the world and professes to be a Christian, I will applaud his courage. It takes guts to stand up for what’s right.

"Our nation was founded by men who had strong faith in God, and it’s laws were based on the laws of God. "

Oh really, like Thomas Jefferson? He is arguably the most brilliant and influential mind in the construction of the United States. Let's see what he has to say about the subject:

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus by the Supreme Being as His Father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter." -Thomas Jefferson

or maybe this one:

"I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition one redeeming feature. They are all alike, founded upon fables and mythologies." -Thomas Jefferson

I'm sorry sir but you are incorrect. Although religious fanatics like to spout off all the time that the US was founded on religious principles, it simply isn't true. We were founded on principles of morality based on individual liberty. This method was designed to bring us even farther away from the monarchal/parlimentary structure of England. Don't believe me? Take a look a the Articles of Confederation and Compare them to the Constitution. If you take a moment to study the two you will see that the Constitution omits several of the religious references put in place by the AOC. There isn't much besides these changes between the two docs. The Constitution was selected in the long run because of (not in spite of) the ratifications.

While Christianity in principle (if not in practice) provides great spiritual comfort for many people, it is not and should never be the law of the land.

"There was a time when religion ruled the world. It is known as the Dark Ages." -Ruth Hurmence Green

I find it sad that people think it's fine to not believe in god and live unmoral lives.

First of all, it's "immoral" not "unmoral". If you are not careful someone might think you are "imeducated".

Second of all, a life spent without service to a "God" isn't necessarily immoral.

I can think of two places loaded with religious people. Churches and Prisons.

I do a good degree of charity work including starting a yearly Christmas show to benefit The Boys and Girls Club. I donate a portion of my check every month to United Way. I have never stolen anything in my life, never cheated on my wife or my girlfriends before I was married. And never cheated anyone out of one red cent. I guess this is just another example of someone living an immoral life because he doesn't think there is a warden in the clouds.

To say a person lives an immoral life just because he/she doesn't believe in god is as stupid as saying someone does live a moral life because they do.

I find it sad that people think it's fine to not believe in god and live unmoral lives.

And I find it sad that judgement is passed so readily by the majority of Christians when Jesus was about acceptance and forgiveness. I won't belabor the point because it's a tiring old argument. Some people pass in and out of Christian beliefs in their lifetime. It would be a shame to alienate them away permanently from Christianity by labeling them unmoral or one of the many connotations thereof, such as: bawdy, debauched, degraded, dissipated, dissolute, don juan, fornicator, lascivious, lecherous, lewd, libertine, licentious, light, lubricious, miscreant, obscene, philanderer, profligate, punk, raffish, rakish, scab, scarlet, slippery, unchaste, uninhibited, wanton, abusive, bad, corrupt, decadent, decayed, decomposed, degenerated, depraved, disintegrated, evil, false, foul, incorrect, infected, invalid, null, perverse, pervertible, putrid, rogue, rotten, spoiled, unsound, vain, vicious, void, wicked, wrong, dissolute, profligate, black sheep, dirty, low, mean, pedestrian, raffish, varmint, libidinous.

Love Hank III, and shooter (even if he can't hold a tune in a bucket) I love George Strait (though he used to be a heroin addict) and I'm a big fan of Alan Jackson (even if he slept with Faith Hill causing her breakup with then "head of her record label" and the near breakup of Alan's marriage (don't ask how I know, because I wouldnt tell anyway...15 years in the country music industry) just know that these people are human, none better than the other, just enjoy them for what they are.........."entertainers". They are not family members, dont defend them as if they were, they couldnt care about your problems, they are just people that sing (some better than others) but nonetheless, we have bigger fish to fry than "who's country, and who ain't". All I know is I'll be drinkin during the day, holdin' my baby's hand, smilin' from ear to ear, hearin' some great music (no matter the stage) and prayin' to God before I go to sleep! i did have the chance to work a few shows with goldenvoice back in the day(late 90's) with a smaller promoter i worked for and it was such a relief to see things done so well. paul t. is one of the most amazing people in the industry and i know for a fact that the fans are a big concern to him.

ummmm...
Don't I remember you stating you knew who was playing this year before anyone on the board?
Also kinda remember you stating your best Buddie is the promoter.
I could be wrong?
Wow if Golden voice is soooo blessed not to be touched by this economy (the only 20 on the board),(Turn on MSN get off the internet).....
I'm sure the president and many fortune 500's going down in flames would love to learn something new from this venue having tons 300,000 to pay big bucks?
Awww maybe thats where all the stock money is going too alcohol and concerts....lol

"i know people!!! i'm on the inside!!!"

.....time passing, arguments changing....

"i'm just a guy who likes concerts, i don't know what's going on for realsies"

you ARE a guy who knows... we love that. i think everyone here appreciates the perspective you share. just stop taking unnecessary shots at people. everyone deserves to share their thoughts and ideas. they can't all be as articulate as you are.

i was young and dumb once and smoking came along with that. what was weird was that my lung function was better overall and i was in the hospital less when i did smoke. maybe it had to do with the fact that i would wake up in the morning with a coughing fit that would clear everydamnthing out of my lungs.

TOO MUCH PROFANITY DOES NOT A CLASSIC SONG MAKE. GEORGE AND ALAN DID NOT HAVE TO RESORT TO THAT ON "MURDER ON MUSIC ROW"

Murder on Music Row, what a great and real song... Love it... Sooo True too

I cough more now than when I smoked. If I could go back in time it's one thing I would definately change, is never taking that first puff. My Uncle just got diagnosed with Lung Cancer.

NO PROFANITY ZONE!!!!!!!!!! IF I WANT HEAR THAT, I'LL SWITCH TO HIP HOP
OUR CULTURE IS A LANDFILL OF CRAP ALREADY WHY ADD MORE

Give me a break! He was quoting words to a great song by Hank III. He wasn't just throwing out foul language... You don't like it, then just don't read it. To each his own, but don't try to police something that isn't yours. Obviously never heard a real country song before, because if you did, you would know that Hank III is the grandson and son of two great artists that were absolutely free in there musical expression and that's what makes them great. He's following in their footsteps but doing it his way. Sometimes a great song will have foul language because maybe the artist has to express it that way. Life ain't always peaches and cream and sometimes you gotta say "What The F%K." ha ha ha

The minute Taylor Swift was voted "Country Music" Entertainer of The Year, I feel that I have lost faith in Nashville. You noticed I hope, that I put quotes around Country Music... haha... Sorry, just can't believe she got that award...

Hell, at least she writes her own songs. Even if I don't like them it's better than a pre-fab studio-grown homo-erotic "band" like Rascall Flatts being handed sh*t songs from their label to record. Not that Taylor Swift is a modern day Dolly Parton or anything.

One of the players in my band is tied in to a lot of the guns for hire in Nashville and knows a few Rascall Flatts "band members". He says that they, and everyone they speak of hates the state of current country music but play in the pussified crap acts to pay the rent but can't wait to get back to Broadway in Nashville and SoCo in Austin to play real music.
