It looks like I'll be attending SC with my almost 11 year old son. I'm a single Mom and can't find anyone to watch him for the whole weekend....
Anyone else out there bringing their kids (especially boys, ages 8-12) to SC09? If you are, please PM me and maybe we can meet up and introduce the kids!
Any suggestions or tips for a newbie on kid-friendly things to do?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

First of all, I have never been to SC...but I have been to other similar country concerts before and the *only* thing that I wish I would have done was dress my kids up in full country attire and prepare them for the bull riding. I have NO IDEA if they are going to have bull riding for the kids or not, but it was really cute to watch at this other concert I went to!
Other than the standard DS games (maybe a new one?)...how about a scavenger hunt?...or if all else fails, then tell him to play tag with the adults! LOL, I'm sure they'll love it!
Sorry!! I know that's probably not much help!

Sorry, I'm no help either, I don't allow my hubby to come to these things, let alone my kids. JK too.
Bring his fav stuff & also suprises. I'd go buy a hand held video game if he's into that, SUNGLASSES for the kid, hit the .99 store for water pistols & extra batteries for a hand held fan--maybe one that lights up, bring his MP3 player--keep an eye on it. Buy him glow toys for every night--I bought a sword every night when concert got out--people were outside gates selling them for $5--I sold mine inside the next night for $10--hee hee. Buy beach balls for him to toss around--explain it's for passing around & watching so he doesn't want it back. Reading--books, comics, coloring posters w/markers. Check the .99 store for things to entertain him. Hacky sac, mini finger skateboards. Backpack to carry his own stuff. Then give him something when he behaves, or at set times which ever works best w/him. Look in gumball machines for rubber balls for .25, parachute guys. things that will get him up & running around & attract other kids to play w/him too. Soccer/playground ball around campsite. Bring extra's for his pals he meets. .99 basketball hoop if you have a pole to hang it on, or bean bag games so he plays w/others.
Don't forget his sunscreen. Good luck. My oldest boy was/is ADHD, I took him everywhere--who'd watch him?--hee hee..he stayed close by, but I always had a ton of things for him to do, & good snacks in ziplock bags.

Heylove, you made me laugh! Out loud. For real.
KC, thanks for the good tips and for taking the time to type all that out! I've been thinking about ordering a bunch of stuff (beach balls, glow necklaces, etc.) from Oriental Trading Company ~ just for sharing and attracting other kids ;) I will hit up the dollar store and see what goodies I can come up with as surprises. I did rent a locker inside the venue so that we didn't have to schlep all this stuff around all day.
I'm hitting WallyWorld tomorrow to pick up sunscreen, chapstick, sunglasses, hats, etc. I've already posted on Craigslist to try to come up with a new Nintendo DS Lite for him before SC (his is trashed - dropped and Crazy-Glued too many times!) And there is a new game (Pokemon Platinum?) that he really, really, really wants.....
We're staying at a motel in Palm Springs but hope to hang out in the camping area for some of the time :)
Oy. I'm already stressing about this.
We will have fun. We will have fun. We will have fun.
(Like y'all say - it's a marathon, not a sprint, right??)
p.s. LOVE the scavenger hunt idea!!!!!

Last year was my first SC and I brought my (then) 11 year old daughter. I brought all kinds of stuff for her: word searches, crosswords, toys, DS w/new game and extra batteries. She barely touched any of it. The time FLIES by.
We were enjoying the people watching in the Forum campground. We only had the morning to try to fill up time with, the rest of the day we were in the festival; walking around, relaxing in the shade, eating. It seems like you're going to have hours to fill for them and the time just zooms. Bring a few things he enjoys. Better yet, ask him what he wants to bring along to kill time with.
Just let him know it's going to probably be hot so he might not want to be really active out in the sun and he needs to be occupied from the time he wakes up until about noon when the festival opens and with something to put in a carry bag for inside the festival to kill time between the shows. And don't stress it too much.:p

Check out Gamestop if you have one near you. You can pick up a used DS and the games for good prices. Guaranteed to work properly and all that. We LIVE at gamestop!

Sounds good. If no Nintendo, get a couple hand held games at Wally World or dollar tree--or AVON. I bought the teens Sudoku for Easter baskets to keep them entertained on the long drive--so far I've managed to keep the TV out of the RV. Also, those puzzle books--I always liked Word Search, used to buy identical books so I could play w/kids or they could challenge others. Was always fun for kids challenge me to finding words w/them. Marker painting posters were fun too. Not sure Or. Trade can ship that fast, look at Big Lots & dollar stores toy aisles.

I read this in an article earlier.
PlayStation, the official video game sponsor for Stagecoach and Coachella, will have an air-conditioned structure with free games for fans to play at both festivals.
Here is the link to article.

I made the announcement this morning about PlayStation being a sponsor and was thrilled to see the famous "google eyes-raised eyebrows-huge grin" face from my kid. It's a plus that the tent is going to be air-conditioned, too!!! I may just have to play me some PS3 between acts....

I think the best bang for you buck is the BBQ tasting tickets. $10.00 for 4 taste tickets. They give you a LOT of food to try out.

if you get him a new ds lite buy the nerf cover it will protect his ds when he drops it or just when it is being tossed around in a kids backpack.

In regard to giving out "a lot" of food from the BBQ vendors, I know this year they are being pretty strict about the 2 ounces per ticket that they are supposed to give out. Your best bet would be to stop by one of the BBQ booths and buy a complete meal for $10.00, I know our BBQ booth is a pretty decent size sandwich, beans and cole slaw for $10.00...enough for an adult.

The past two years those taste tickets lasted me both days because I was given so much food.
I will still be in the BBQ lines no matter what portion I'm served. Anybody going to be doing some "Memphis BBQ"? That's becoming my new fav.

Thanks for the advice on the BBQ tickets, I wasn't sure if they would be a good deal or not. Less food to bring along.
Question how far is the Forum tent area from the forum parking area. Close enough that I can keep add'l supplies in the truck?

Imagine a gravel lot next to a grass field seperated by a wall with a walkway through it. It's less than a 2 minute walk from the car to the tent.

Good question how far away is the parking from the actual camping area. Will it be easy to get back to my truck or a pain? Have to take daily meds and don't want to leave them in the tent. First time @ SC can't wait, going to be so much fun! :D
