Is Stagecoach going to get this new benefit too?

Bring your own container

In an effort to drastically reduce waste we are launching a filtered water program at Coachella this year.

Our mission is to cut back on the amount of plastic water bottles sold at the show.

We're offering options:

1. Free drinking fountains – 3 locations throughout the venue, please see map

2. Bring your own container - it must be completely empty to enter the festival (from the main entrance or any camping areas). No glass, metal and no camel packs. You can fill up at the free drinking fountains or purchase cold filtered water for $1 per filling. 32oz maximum container allowed in.

3. Purchase a $10 plastic 24oz water container and receive free cold filtered water all weekend.

There are 3 refill locations located inside the venue, along with another in camping. You can purchase containers at each of these locations along with the merchandise tent and the general store in camping. Please see the map for locations or ask a festival staff member.

This is awesome. I really really really hope SC does the same thing.

Bottled water is so destructive. Think about all the energy and resources wasted on filtering the water, making the bottles, bottling the water, making and printing the labels, shipping it (sometimes by sea!), warehousing it, distributing it... And then you end up with all those empty plastic bottles (two million every five minutes in the US alone). All for something that's available from any tap, or if you're particular is easily filtered with a Brita or similar.

PLASE SC!!! This is a great idea even if it means you can't bend us over for water.

You guys ever seen this: http://www.monoscope.com/2007/08/chris_jordan_plastic_bottles_2.html

I felt so awful as we were walking out each day, seeing not only the mess, but mostly plastic bottles. This would be amazing! If they decide on it, they should market/advertise it like nuts so people know!

did SC do a trade in 10 empty water bottles for a free new one last year?? or was that just Coachella

I have no problem with refilling a plastic water bottle out of a designated area but a drinking fountain is a bit unsanitary .... If you see what the guys do to it at the gym you'd understand.....

I agree. I've never seen people do anything weird to the drinking fountains at the gym but I've seen some people envelope their mouths around drinking fountain. I don't EVER use public drinking fountains.

Yes the did.

They did, but I didn't use it. Pain in the ass. I don't think I could keep track of 10 empty ones throughout the day! And a water fountain without being able to refill is unrealistic. Who is really going to walk over to that thing for a sip?

plus who needs water when you have beer?

Yes, I remember. Were you hanging out with us in the booth? I think she had two friends there at one point.

It's such a blur. My memory is so shitty even without alcohol.

there was NO PRESSURE at the drinking fountains. Guy in front of us was filling up his water bottle and we gave up waiting after about 10 minutes and his bottle was only 1/4 filled.

Plus I like my water ice cold rather than room temp. I'm spoiled like that.

Bumping this up to the top for this comment:

If anyone is going to Coachella this weekend, can you find out if the people that run the water program are planning to offer it for SC, too????

I e-mailed GoldenVoice and got a less-than-satisfactory answer about this.....

Thanks for posting that ASU. Gonna save my back from trying to lug in all those bottles in my pack. Plus, going green is good too!
