so what does everyone suggest...should we bring a blanket to sit on or are chairs worth bringing?....also - should i be worried about snakes and such if it's a blanket i'm sitting on? if so i'll buy some chairs! ;)

No snakes, so don't even worry about that. As for blankets vs chairs...well...thats just personal prefrence and it can depend on what you plan on doing.

If you think you are gonna park yourself infront of the Mane Stage, I would recomend a chair (not one of those close to the ground ones though I made that mistake in 07)

If you wanna be very mobile and not sling a chair over your shoulder all day, then maybe go with the blanket???

Its hard to say. Last year I brought neither cuz I mostly bounced from group to group and sat in their chairs while I visited friends. And was in the VIP area on Sun. But in 07 I parked my chair infront of the Mane Stage, wandered off to see other shows and when I came back 6 hours later, my chair was EXACTLY where I left it, and I was sitting comfortably for the headliners shows!

I would bring both. People who were "napping" on the ground without a blankie underneath them looked a little uncomfortable with the dirt pillow.

Yes, we had a large blanket and then put our camping chairs on top. I left my chair when I wandered....it was safe!

I Always Bring Both....The Blanket Kind Of Marks Your Saved Area and Chairs Are Just More Comfortable to Sit In :) Remember Its Gonna Be A LONG Weekend!

I also do both...cheap route--get a folding chair from a garage sale--you have plenty of time to look, or get a cheapie chair....look at Walgreen's, Target, Walfart for cheapie fleece blankets--usually 3-4 for $10....they are soft, easy to pack up/stuff....I put 1 on ground, chair on top...gives you space for pals to come join you w/out taking up too much room....I like 2, 1 to wrap up in...personally, I have a backpack chair....I walk w/a cane, carry a drink, leave's no room for a chair or blanky, so gotta have the backpack chair...also, it carries all the sunscreen, fan, glow stick toys...you WILL want a chair...juuuuuuust in case...

The backpack chairs are great aren't they..you can pack stuff in and your hands are free. Mine adjust to a reclining position also. (got it at Costco). There also nice for the storage they provide in a non obvious sort of way, which gives you a little more confidence leaving personal items while you take your restroom and beer breaks. (although it was a very relaxed, trusting, no trouble weekend last year.) The day is long, especially for non campers who can't leave. Thats what makes the blanket a great extra for a nap and just the piece of mind of keeping some territory as it gets more crowded throughout the day. My tip of the day is bring in frozen water bottles and then you have free cold water hours later to quench that hot desert thirst.

I know a friend ordered hers online via walmart, I think. But I saw one at Big 5 this last weekend. Good luck!

Just a quick suggestion on the chairs. Last year we tried to sit close to the fence in GA with full size chairs and were asked, by security, to move back. You might want to get chairs that are low to the ground. I agree with what most are saying, though. Chairs and blankets are best.

Define "full size" chair?!

I've Sat Right On The Fence, In GA, The Last 2yrs At SC and Have Never Had To Sit In A "Beach" Chair Before. Were You In A Full Size (lay down) Lawn Chair???

Nope. Just a regular WalMart folding chair in a bag. Same as just about 90% of all the other people. We were actually asked to move twice (from different spots).

We were at the fence with those chairs and weren't asked to move. Some people were trying to put their chairs against the fence in the walkway area....could that have been the problem? The regular camping chairs area allowed as per the rules....

Yeah. We are pretty considerate people..... well, most of the time anyway. We moved out of the aisle and we thought we were out of everyone's way, but we were told we couldn't have the chairs in that area.

That's okay, though. We just made sure we elbowed our way through to get to the fence when we wanted pics. :D

Are Canopy Chairs OK to bring? I thought I saw some last year, and had "Shade Envy". :p I am going to buy a couple this week. I have heard they are at Sears and Sports Authority. Thankfully it sounds like it won't be quite as hot as last year. :)

No, not OK. Some people near us had to take theirs down. They're not really fair to the people sitting behind you who won't be able to see (if they're sitting on the grass) if you've got a canopy.

Oh. OK. I guess I could still bring it, but flip the canopy back if it got in the way. I don't want to be inconsiderate of others. I read that umbrellas are a no no too. But last year I bought a parasol at one of the vendors that was small enough to not block views. I might need to resort to just wearing a big old hat to block the sun. Thanks for the response.
