Thought I'd share some of my fav's & hopefully learn some new tricks from y'all.

I always make sandwiches before I leave--for those days you just can't move/think. I buy a 12 pack of sandwich rolls & put the sandwiches back in the bread bag for the trip. If you use an ice chest, pop them in the freezer the night before so they don't get so smashed up in the cooler.

A pal saves her empty milk cartons & I fill them w/water & use as ice blocks in ice chest. You can use plastic water bottles too, best to loosen cap before freezing. Those you can then use as your drinking water later.

I freeze about everything & eat as it thaws.

I buy the family packs of 10 Hot Italian sausages when they are on sale for $1.50. Either BBQ those, pan fry w/onions & peppers, serve on sand rolls. Cheap & easy. I also remove from skin, make into meatballs & pan fry up, drain & add a jar of speg. sauce for Meatball sandwiches--these can also be made up ahead & either zapped in microwave or eaten cold on those days mentioned above--I seem to have alot of those days--ha ha.

For drinks, look for "Bucket Drinks" at Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, Big Lots. Make the buckets, freeze & keep in ice chest as block ice. Yummy & tasty.

Make up Jello shooters at home. Buy cups & lids at Smart & Final, if you use the lids, you can store them in zip lock bags in ice chest.

Cut up apples, sprinkle w/citrusy fruit to keep from browning. Nice snack--I'm still avoiding Peanut Butter, but you can buy the caramel cups for dipping.

Freeze grapes, great for keeping drinks cold w/out diluting. Edible too. Remember, a full ice chest stays colder longer.

I buy a couple lbs of boneless/skinless chicken breasts, cook up at home & use for about everything at the site.
Dice for salad, make chicken quesadilla's, eat cold, put in burritos.

Sharing snacks--
I love chunks of cheese, brie, bread & butter pickles, sweet gurkins, crackers, fruit, summer sausage, salami. Those are always great items to share w/others at a get together.

What are your fav things?

Yes, I am the quicky snack queen. I bought a "whirly-pop" popcorn maker for those nights I need a popcorn fix & after generator hrs. Man, it's quick & the best popcorn! Pour in a bowl & season, pass it around & make more. Alllllllllllllways have popcorn too.
Another thing I do. I am best pals w/the Captain. I always have a fresh pinapple, core it out & fill w/Cappy. You have the red cup, I have the fresh pinapple. I have a pinapple corer in my RV if you need to borrow.

Yummy! I love pinapple!! I used to live in Hawaii and between those and sugar cane wow!! I also love popcorn. That is definately a must for snacks, great if you pour parmesean cheese on it also...or even lawry's.

Have red cup, will travel...and visit the pineapple queen!

One the guys coming with us already has fruit in some Everclear ;-/
String cheese and beef jerky keep well, getting trail mix from Henery's Market is less expensive. I'm sure we'll have a cooler full of fruit (I gotta let my girlfriend use at least one for food stuff, right?)

Yes, the pinapple that I remove goes into the Tupper to soak w/Cappy. Yummy. Had some last night.

I picked some oranges & squeezed a 1/2 gallon o.j. yesterday, wanted to play around w/the orange 1/2's to see how they might hold some Jello Shots. And haven't poured Vodka into one in awhile, wanted to see how they tasted.

I don't like oranges, so didn't care for any of that. Just had to add some Stevia sweetener & got hubby to drink 1/2 gallon of screwdrivers w/me instead. Another wasted day in Paradise, ha ha.

Bill, mighty nice of ya to let the lady bring some food.

This subject is near n dear to my heart cuz im the one feeding everyone when we camp... My trick everytime i go to the desert is to cook and prepare as much as possible AT HOME before we go. I usually cook up a big pork shoulder or tri tip in my crock pot the day before we go and keep it in tuperwear. Break it out on french rolls for pulled pork sanwiches and throw it in eggs in the morning. This weekend I just kept 8 grown men nurished in baja for three days off one $17 pork shoulder.

Here is my latest recipe...
Get a Pork Shoulder the size that will just fit in your crock pot. Throw in a couple table spoons of Lawrys Salt, tbls spn black pepper, tble spn chilli powder, tblespn liquid smoke, one chopped onion, one chopped green pepper, and 1/2 bottle of Soy Vey (or teriaki, but Soy Vey is waaaaay better). Put everything in crock pot and fill 3/4 with water. turn on med heat for 9+ hrs and "set it and forget it". Drain juice through strainer to keep all the onions and peppers. Put it in tuperwear and throw in fridge/freezer.

For sandwiches i just break out enough of the pork for one meal heat up in frying pan or microwave, shred with fork, then throw it on a french roll and cover with bbq sauce.

A variation on pulled pork sandwhiches sound great. You should put cole slaw on them

I love your recipe with the pork in the crock pot and having it all pre cooked and ready to eat while camping. I buy a hefty size tri tip when on sale and cook it all day in the crock pot using beef broth and lipton onion soup as seasonings. If cooked long enough it shreds perfectly for BBQ beef sandwiches, served on french rolls with BBQ sauce..Serves plenty, too. yummy.

I also make up a couple lbs of ground beef taco meat. Freeze in ziplock bags--$1 store, buy every size bag they carry. I leave some meat for the boyz at home so they don't go hungry while Mama's gone. Usually do taco night the night everyone arrives, easy to reheat, everyone makes their own. Also a great dinner to divvy up amongst everyone, I hate dicing onions & tomatoes, so I always make someone else dice & bring those, ha ha. Cold taco's aren't so bad & whatever's left goes in the eggs on the last day for "kitchen sink" breakfast burritos.

Hey Turlock, I got my bro kicked out of "Turkey Tech" in the 70's. We were playing soccer in the boys dorm & lounge, funny now, not at the time. So hi to "Turlock by the Sea"

SNACKS
I buy every size ziplock bags at $1 store. Make your own trail mix w/the items you like, put in the tiny, snack ziplock bags. Cheaper, you get more, it's only stuff you like & you can usually smuggle in a bag or 2--NOT ME!!

Goldfish
M & M's hold up better than choco or carob ships
Banana chips
dried cranberries
Reese's piece's
oyster crackers
coconut
sunflower seeds
peanuts, cashews, nuts
Teddy grahams

Same thing w/Oatmeal. I always made my own flavored oatmeal. Not sure how tent campers can heat the water.

HINT for tent campers--not sure where the charging station is, but I used to bring a cheapy microwave in a wheely duffle when I tent camped. Rolled it up to an outlet, heated my food, put it away & ate. I've also stumbled over to RVer's who had a generator running & asked them to zap a burrito for me. Make sure they have their generator running first, don't ask them to fire it up. I've never asked them to plug in my micro though, I do have limits to my begging.

The best tips i can give is try to think of foods that do not require utensils and plates/bowls. (tacos, sandwiches, burritos, fried chicken, ribs, pizza, etc.) Otherwise you will need to buy forks, bowls, plates etc. then the bigger problem is you create a ton of trash that you will need to throw out or leave near by for bees and flys. You would be suprised how much trash 8+ people can create in just a few days, considering EVERYTHING you buy is in some type of packaging. I also bring a marker and mark up peoples cups so they dont get a new cup everytime they fill up. (or forget which one is theirs and ask for another drink after you just poured them one...)

Does anyone know if you can get pizza delivered to the gates? (like at 2am Sunday morning)
