Seriously! That's what I was thinking... Does that mean they'll refund the price of one of our tickets? haha

I'll be happy if they refund the misc garbage fees we were charged!! ha ha..well maybe those fees will be what decorates the complex for Christmas..btw, is there a fee for parking there??

$20.00 bucks to park at Staples or Nokia Live.
I'm counting on it being $20.00

You guys purchased tickets to GA on the lower level. I gotta guess that these would be GA on the upper level??? I'll check on Friday and see if that's what the special deal is on a 2 for 1.

Actually, there are meters on Grand and Olive between 11th and 12th that are free after 6 PM. It's a few blocks to walk, but well worth it! I have season tickets for hockey at Staples and I haven't paid for parking once all season!

KittyLeigh and I always drink in the car. =) The only problem with shows in the middle of the week is that I barely get out of work with enough time to tailgate. So I probably can't tailgate anyway.
I looked on Friday for the special 2 for 1 deal....you DON'T want to know.

2 for 1 GA on lower level floor. I couldn't believe my eyes and I thought that it was so unfair. I checked twice along with a few other concerts. I would say something because you already have the answer of no before you ask. The 2 for 1 special should have been GA upper level like I assumed it would be.
I purchased an assigned seat and I hope I don't regret that decision. It's always tough at a brand new venue that you know nothing about.
festivalfan
11-30-2008, 09:08 AM
well that's a bummer....I'm going to call tomorrow and see what they say...You have an assigned seat....doubtful that you'll regret that.Wish we were together, though. We'll be in the "mosh pit" (hope no one farts!!) I, too always wonder about a new venue..not knowing the layout or where the good seats are. We'll be in GA, I've learned my lesson about wearing boots to a SRO concert...no more!.. I'll wear my uggs to Gretchen (lol)
I wear only comfortable tennis shoes at concerts anymore. I've learned you gotta hike to get the venues and then all the walking around and standing during the evening. I had so many women comment to me at Tina Turner how smart I was and they wished they did the same thing.
That 2 for 1 deal also kinda seems like discrimination against single people. It really should be 50% discount PERIOD. I know that they are just trying to get more people to go BUT...
festivalfan
11-30-2008, 09:25 AM
I know!! here's my plan.. to call and say... if you were willing to sell tix at 2 for 1, then refund half the ticket cost to those of us buying 1..yea.. I like the "discrimination" angle. heck stores offer an adjustment when an item goes on sale after purchase...that should apply here, too.

There is no GA upper level for the Gretchen Wilson show at Club Nokia.

hey gals....!! yippee.. another girls night out this Thursday! I hear the LA Live center is really neat, and decorated for Christmas. Let's figure out how we're going to meet up, when you're getting there and especially where you're all parking....ugh, $20?
The last time I was down there all the streets are torn up building this whole new media center. I passed the Club Nokia parking on my way to Staples and it looked like it was underground? I'm looking forward to seeing FF, IHML, KL, NutsaboutCountry & daughter again. Anybody else going? This should be fun checking out a brand new venue. I hope it lives up to the hype. I'm so glad that Downtown LA is finally being madeover. We need it.

Maybe IHML or KL knows of an "establishment" that we can partake a few before the show that's within close walking distance so we can hook up and save a few bucks?

There's nothing really close to Staples...that's why I bring my own beer and tailgate in the car on the street. hahhhhahhaha. I won't be there until almost 7 so I don't know how much drinking I can partake in. Festival, I'll call you when we get there! Rose, why don't I have your number??
O.k. tailgate in the car it is....of course that's before they finish all the new stuff downtown. Supposed to be some really good restaurants opening up with I'm sure some bar stools that will eventually have our names tattooed on them.
I have your number IHML...I don't know how you don't have mine? Stalk me ;)
PM on the way
I just looked at my ticket. It says DRS@7:30. I'm assuming that means door opens up at 7:30...Countrygurl, can you help us out and tell us when the concert starts? It might give us a little bit more tailgate time or worse, traffic time.
FF, IHML & KL...do you want me to bring some Peach Kama Kazi shots that I can pre-make and bring in a container in a cooler? I've already got the Absolute Vodka and just need to pick up the Peach Schnapps & Sweet & Sour mix. I don't want to be doing shooters alone in a parking lot  :D :p
I'm hoping to be there right around 7 myself.

YUMMY!!! sounds great!! What can I bring? shot glasses? aw, heck we'll just pour them in a coffee mug! I think I'll try and get there early so I can enjoy the new complex. call me when you get close and we'll figure out a meeting place....Cooter says a few restaurants are open near Club Nokia, too, which is good if we have time.
by the way.. I need to go to the box office and see about tickets for Little Big Town.. they'll be at Club Nokia in April, and I think ZBB will be opening for them that night. Can't find the info on either bands website, but buying tickets there would save on the misc garbage fees on ticketmaster. Hopefully the box office will have the info.

i saw parking a few blocks away for under $10. you just gotta drive around a bit to find the deals. there was one lot for $10 and on the other side of the street it was around $20. i always just bite the bullet and buy lot 8 parking on tickemaster for $30 when going to shows at staples. nice, small lot right across the street and worth the money to not have to walk.
here's a map with all the available parking in the area, the green lots are where you will find the better deals...

i am near the north hollywood station.. end of the red line.
Countrygurl,
Do you take the trains at night after concerts? How safe do you feel? Alone or in a group?
I use to take the trains all over from San Diego up to Modesto but that was always during the day for work and I never had a problem.
It would be really easy for me to catch the Orange line (about a mile from my house) and go from there. I'm pretty sure the Orange line dead ends into the Red Line.
Countrygurl
12-10-2008, 09:19 AM
I don't feel unsafe on the train alone or in groups. I don't mind walking the 4 blocks to/from staples since that area is like walking down citywalk at universal studios. And I park right at the subway in no ho where i live so i feel safe there too. I suppose anything can happen to anyone at anytime though.

i wish i could just hop on the metro from oc. although we did make it up to staples last week in 40 minutes...during rush hour. not sure how that worked out? one time it took me almost 3 hours to get to the el rey from newport, about 40 miles.

I think for the Gretchen show it will be cool.
for people's first time to the venue i hope you like it.
I will go ahead and take my car this time out but I will have to do a practice train/bus run soon and check it out. The traffic is always too unpredicatable and since they have really changed the face of that area with add of Staples center, Nokia Theatre, Club Nokia and all the other new stuff going in. I'm hoping I will be going there a whole lot more often. Nokia Theatre is fantastic and I'm hoping Club Nokia will be too.

I haven't been on for a few days (office desk move and such - ugh) - anyway - looking forward to see those folks that are going tonight - yay! I think IHML most likely will be in touch with you ladies when we're getting close to being there - she's hopefully getting out of work in time for me to pick her up so we can grab a bite to eat near work (like she said) and then carpool to Nokia....I'm excited to check out the new venue!
Like she said - we're there several times a week (usually Kings games - but have seen shows at Nokia) and still have not managed to see where Club Nokia is hiding!

Show was GREAT!!! I liked Club Nokia...basically thought it looked like a sleek, modern version of House of Blues...
Gretchen was AWESOME - and she (and her backup singer) can drink Jack outta the bottle like nobody's business! :) We got some great pics on IHML's camera (I was snap-happy since we were so close - drained a newly charged battery!)... Oh what a night!! Great fun...loved Club Nokia....!!! So much so that I already bought my Little Big Town-ZBB concert ticket for April. GA was great for Gretchen.. up close, not jammmed. Rose had assigned seating, but I don't think she ever sat in her seat. Club Nokia is a very nice, new venue with a big bar, nice bathrooms, lots of sinks, a nice patio and being on the 3rd floor we had a nice city view when we went to the patio. Fun group, too... our "luau" group!! What a great surprise seeing Kris and Richard again, too!! Gretchen was a great country rocker last night...great variety of music..kept the house rockin'. Loves her Jack..man she guzzled it like water.. and never missed a beat. I could go on and on...Countrygurl and Cooter... you're right.. very nice venue. parking maps SO HELPFUL!!
I'm tired today...
First - Club Nokia FANTASTIC. I will be going to that facility again. I'm NOT a GA fan but this place was so much better and bigger than most GA facilities. Clean bathrooms, well stocked bar and the employees also made the evening. Everybody actually was very helpful and friendly and didn't act like we were bothering them when we were asking questions. I LOVE the fact that they told me if I didn't want to sit in my seat and go to GA that it was a o.k. I did look at my seat and the view just to check it out and it wasn't bad at all. The way they stacked the facility you had a really good and close view of the stage but I wanted to party with all my SC/Luau buddies.
Second - Gretchen rocked the facility. Sound was right on and her voice was right on. I took some pictures that I will post sometime this weekend. Opening band Scared Cowboys were better live then what I checked out on-line at their websight.
Third - Which one of you guys grabbed my camera and took pictures of my butt when I was dancing?

Can't wait for Yvonne to hear how much fun we had with Kris and Richard. Me, IHML and KL had fun "entertaining" the guy next to us,too.. lol (he thought we were "special" friends, and never told him the truth)
You're right about the staff.. really nice people. I need to look at the calender of upcoming events
when I was flipping through my pictures to delete all the fuzzy ones and I stumbled upon the butt photos I was cracking up. That guy KNEW were we all "special" friends especially after I planted that kiss on you when he was taking our picture. the peach Kami's were much better in the facility than at the tailgate BUT if you can believe this after the concert Kris & Richard went down to my car with me and they finished off the Kami's

I had a GREAT time last night. I thought Club Nokia was an awesome venue. Kris and Richard told us that because it was empty they were giving out a limited number of wristbands to get into the pit. I walked up to security and he put a wristband on me and I didn't say a word. The girl next to me goes, "Do you give those to ANYONE?" and the security guy looks at her and goes, "Well, there IS a limit." Ha!! I was so close to Gretchen--I loved it!! She brought out the guitarist from Alice in Chains and they sang "Man in the Box" and did an awesome job. GREAT NIGHT!!! Loved seeing Rose and Festival again!!

Do you have any idea what type of discounts will be available? Also do you have any idea how the RV packages works? My family wants to go to this event. I see that I can get an RV package at El Dorado (2) but then there is another option for wrist bands. Not sure if I have to buy a camping package then also buy wrist bands at $50.00 a pop for each person. Also on the two for one nokia....What Carrier?

$250 (+ applicable charges) - Includes one 20x50 RV space (1 steering wheel) and camping amenities. This package includes up to 6 camping passes (people camping passes) which will be distributed at time of check in.
Looks like 6 camping passes are included in the $250.00 package. You would only need to purchase additional camping passes if you have more that 6 people.
Two for one at Club Nokia was through Ticketmaster and it was a one day sell.

This venue is set up different for various concerts. Either GA on bottom and seating up top or seating on both bottom and top levels. The way to tell how the concert is set up is on Ticketmaster, click the "best available" option and the drop down menu will tell you what choices you have to select the proper seating chart. For Little Big Town it's GA on bottom and seating up top. Even though I purchased an assigned seat for Gretchen they let me hang down in GA with all my concert buddies.
