Who thinks that Stagecoach is doing a great job at advertising the show? What do you think the best form of advertising is to get this show out to the masses?

interesting thread.... i can see that most of us are running out of subjects to write about.... i actually havent heard much advertising for SC at all down here in SD. all i ever see is stuff that is on TM or emailed to me.....
Everymorning during my channel 4 news has had a Stagecoach ad. They ran them all through the CMA awards. I've gotten like 20 e-mails already (although I'm on EVERYBODY'S e-mail list)
I talk about it non-stop.

I agree, the TV ads have been huge. I can't imagine the cost for advertising during CMA's thats pretty solid. I've heard it mostly on KFRG, but saw the Stagecoach ad twice on tv...

I know I'm going to sound biased with my response as it would benefit local musicians like myself. But this is where I feeel these large events miss the mark:
I've always felt that the SC organization would do well to spend a bit of time helping to cultivate the SoCal country music/lifestyle scene as opposed to just putting on a yearly festival that, while being a lot of fun, doesn't do much to help keep the faltering scene in the Southwest going. Don't get me wrong, the festival is an amazing undertaking, but I think if SC spend some time and effort in the lower echelons of local musicians, they might find they get support from places they may not have expected it.
One thing I would do is promote a Southern California "Battle of the Bands" style competition with a few different winners. Two slots for the smaller stages and one grand prize slot on the Main stage in the afternoon. With the correct branding during the course of these events including having quasi-celebrity panel judges, on-line voting (with codes from coasters or admission stubs from the events), and voting on YouTube Style snippets from the show at the SC website and message boards discussing performances. I think the organization would start being seen as an event that is looking to the future of the re-establishment of the Country/Western scene in California instead of a large corporation looking to book a few big names from Nashville to suck some money out of the California economy.
It seems like any festival needs to at least have an appearance of an altruistic nature if it wants to sustain itself over time. Cochella has thsi built into it just by the type of music that is selected. For some reason, people feel like they are supporting a "global good" by listening to acts like Radiohead and Kanye West. Without taking natural feeling steps to build in some of that same energy, I am afraid that SC will fizzle out in its own gradiose given enough time.
Again, I'm not saying SC is bad by any means.
At any rate, that's just my two cents.

i think you are over-estimating the coachella crowd. everyone i know goes to drink, do drugs, and party while listening to great music.

I agree completely, please refer to "The Road To Wagon Wheel Concert Series" at the Wagon Wheel Festival Site. Problem is, local country bands don't want to do a battle of the bands. The reactions we got, we offered a $10,000 prize and a spot on the main stage for winning the contest and all the bands said they are professional musicians and would just rather be paid a fee and not compete. It surprised the hell out of me. Lol... Funny you said all that, Thats exactly what we were trying to do! I think the Country Artists out here defenitely need to be cultivated to build the So. Cal Scene up!

Some one once said that being a fan of country music in Southern California was like being a Buddhist in Rome. I don't think that's quite accurate because you're right, there's a scene here but you have to know where to look. The San Diego area has produced Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, the Hacienda Bros. and the Palaminos to name a few.

I think that used to be true, but as more and more genre's of music cross over into country the bigger the fan base grows! I've always been a fan of country but until they threw a little southern rock sound into it, it was like I had one foot in the water, and now I have two.
Now I like all the sounds of country!

Interesting, I will certainly look into it at the WWF site.
Which artists did you contact? I know at least ten bands off the top of my head that are excellent performers and songwriters that regularly play for a few rounds of drinks and the love of getting out that would be great contenders.
Hell, had I known about it our band would have been there in a second. If it's still going on you can count me in. We'd tear it up out there!
