This is crazy:eek: We have attended the first and second concerts and had the best times. We have really been looking foreword to this year. But these prices have blown us right out of the water:confused: We always stay in Eldorado 1, that is about 1/2 the fun! I can't believe what they have done. $800 Bucks for 2 nights is over the top:eek: The line up isn't all it could be, and the price is really changing our minds:( Anybody feel the same way??

I completely agree!! I paid well over $300 dollars last year and thought it was kind of expensive. In the end it was well worth it. I expected a little hike due to inflation this year but 3X's as much????? ricockules!!!!!

ED1 is what makes the stagecoach experience so great. Party and have a good time with friends and the WALK a short distance to the stages. It is really not worthing doing it any other way.

i also agree. was looking forward to staying in the camps and partying after the concert. unfortunately, i will not be partaking in such festivities due to the EXPENSIVE costs...

ya, my friends and I were hoping to find or rent an RV to stay in ED1 this year (Forum last year), but I think we're sticking with the forum! We'd need an army to justify the cost, esp since we'd have to most likely rent an RV.

Oh I forgot to mention and buy camping wrist bands to party both days where ever you want.....
I think because of the mess of running out of space sold for ED1 they are going to try and keep it elite and everyone else will either pay to be with who they want in there or go elsewhere.
It is there venue....

Hotrodg57, apparently you are not alone in this. I thought, wow, they brought down the ticket prices, cuz they have less acts, so don't have to hire as many and can save some money to help us out... NOT!!! The Seating is double and over double for camping in EDI. Layaway or not, this is outrageous.

Due to this we have also changed our plans..we are going GA this year and not getting great seats, unfortunatly we had to compromise, be able to camp and go, or not go at all. Many of my friends are doing the same. I don't care who you are, to pay that much for camping and have seats for two days is not justified.

i don't own an RV so i'm not savvy on the protocol but what is a "normal" charge for something like this.. and what are the charges for? hook up to electricity and water?

Are you kidding me? That is outrageous... Ya know what, I don't care where the RV spot is, no RV spot should be over $200-$300 for a weekend anywhere, this isnt a Las Vegas Suite, you can literally get one for what they want. plus you have to pay for gas for RV, Tickets to get in the venue... food and drinks for your rv, etc. etc... and the costs just keep adding up! Its not right!!

I remember kicking it in under a shade tent and the security kicking people away and spray painting orange lines to signify a walkway.

we werent in the walkway. there was two sections the section closest to the stage was standing only. then there was a section a little further back that was sitting room. it wasnt labled as standing room, they just decided to make it standing room after they realized there were too many people and needed to pack more people in closer to the front. they only painted the orange lines on like saturday or sunday, i remember friday night being no lines and just kinda do whatever you wanted to. friday night was a little less busy tho....

I couldn't agree with you any more on this subject. I still don't understand why they are including the 6 rist bands with the price at ed1, is it to help justify the mark up, I DONT THINK SO. if my memory serves me right to stay at ed1 with hookups last year was $250 and who ever stayed with you had to buy their own wristband for $50. Does anyone know why they changed that besides inflation?

Inflation or not, how bout give a little break because of the economy, people dont have expendible dollars to just throw at a concert thats that expensive... hhmmm... Just because its a great time for all, doesn't make it ok to gouge people...

if people don't have expendable dollars then how do they own an rv, pay insurance on it, and pay all that money to fill it up? having an rv alone is a luxury.

there are plenty of other options: stay in ed2, tent it, hotel it, etc.

actually, a hotel is probably the same price as staying in ed1 based on how they jack up their prices. don't hear anyone complaining about that...

and they did give a break. ga tickets are half the price they were last year. if you can't afford $50 to camp and $100 for a ticket to the show then maybe you shouldn't be spending the money on it to begin with.

I agree! That is why many of the SC board regulars will NOT pay these prices! I for one was willing and able to pay TOP DOLLAR for Gold Circle in '09! I have decided to do the opposite and spend less of my HARD EARNED MONEY @ SC next year ~~~~~ on principal! ;)

Very UNTRUE cooter!!. I don't have expendable dollars, but I do have a nice RV. That is the one thing my family has done since I was born, camp in the FREEEE desert..Ok, yes we pay our yearly dues for Glamis and I volunteer clean ups etc...but just cuz I own/pay on one does not mean this! If we do have to pay for RV parking, we find an "affordable" site!!

Yes it is a luxury, but beleive me my pockets are pretty empty these days, house payments rising, hours being cut, out due to surgery, and many other reasons. And just cuz we have an RV, whether it be a pup tent, pull trailer, 5th wheel or a $500,000 motorhome does NOT mean we have expendable dollars.

Cooter, I understand your "in" with GV etc...but come one, you can't even agree somewhat that they are gouging!! Come on...you HAVE to buy 6 tickets with your RV Pass? And the fact that the price doubled? And GV is bragging that they "understand the economy" blah blah blah..NO they don't!! how the hell is this a bad deal???

ed2 - $250 minus $200 for the value of 4 wristbands = $50 for the entire weekend for the rv spot! and that is to stay from 6pm thursday to 10am monday if you so chose.

compare ed1 to hotel prices: $750/3.5 days = less than $250/night. now if you are able to sell off 4 of those wristbands you can subtract $200, which makes it a little more than $150/night for the rv spot.

not bad if you ask me.

why is everyone only considering ed1?

just wondering..I know a few of us are trying to get handicapped spots in ed1, with our placards...but that may be a crapshoot with the way TM does the verification (does anyone know how that works?) So I need a back up plan.
With the price increase this year, wondering what those of you that stayed in ED1 are going to do this year.. stay in ED1 or move to ED2. ?
We were in ED2, last year and truely had a great time, also had a great time hanging out with people in ED1.

NO one said ED II was bad..it is the $800 for camping with the MUST to have to buy 6 camping passes..and the $400-800 seats.

They need to take off the wording that EDI is the quieter (ok..maybe not exact words) spot and that EDII is the party area...cuz now you dont have that option unless you can fork out $800.00!!

i booked there for coachella before they announced the dates at $530 for 3 nights. once they found out the dates it went up to $1000+ for the weekend.

up to $199/night for stagecoach, after you add in the tax and resort fees it isn't much of a difference. if you show up thursday and leave monday like is possible with an rv, you are paying more.

I don't know where you are getting your prices but if you do the math, I figure for a 30 watt hookup at 750 minus your 6 wristbands, that works out to $450 for the weekend. To me, that is a two hundrend dollar hike up from last year and we have no choice to take the 6 wristbands. All I want to know is why all of a sudden they are making it part of the price for wristbands? I don't need 6 I only need to but I guess they got to make their money to even if the economy sucks and people are strugglling

even with your math, divide the $450 by 3 1/2 days, which is what you can stay for.

Last year I even had extra GA tickets I couldn't even sell at 1/2 price, since they were being given away everywhere! So I came home with unused tickets!

Again, I think 80% of the campers will not use all 6 tickets in EDI let alone all 4 in EDII, so there wont be a market for them. Who will need a camping ticket if 6 already come in the price? Cant really fit that many people as it is in an RV, respectivly.

which is why SC should offer an incentive to stay on grounds, that way people will drink there own beer and stay close by, not force people to leave by hiking up the prices....

stay in ed2.

Not an option with the kids. I'm sure we could if I started training now to carry em the extra distance. I'm pretty sure I could carry one out to ED 2, but by the time I ran back to get the other one and carry her to the RV I may pass out. Then they will be pissed at me for them missing any artists they want to see. It's just not worth the hassle.

Cooter has a new baby now...maybe he will give a bit and understand now..it not always is about just the money, but the children, the elderly, and the principle of the thing! Let alone just to have power to your RV that may be a must for children and elderly, handicapped etc..but have to pay out the arse for it? NOT FAIR!

i would bring a bike with kid seats or that trailer one that holds a couple kids, etc. and ride my kids up to the front and back again at night, lock it up to the fence during the day. i am basically functioning on one lung at this point due to my lung disease and handle both weekends just fine. i need to stop and rest once in awhile, but i make do. i understand what it is like to be disabled and am raising 2 kids, a 2 1/2 year old and a 2 month old, as well and if there is something that i may not be up for it is simple, i don't go.

lame question... is the wristband you guys keep referring to a VIP wristband?

festivalfan
11-11-2008, 07:36 AM
I'm just puzzled as to WHY such a huge increase in camping fees, and a mandatory purchase of wrist bands. I can perhaps understand a marginal...but FAIR increase for each area. But the current fees just seem to be a slap in the face to the fans that support the event and the performers. We are a handful of people that have the heads up on what to expect and we're all scrambling to figure out how we're going to do this in 09. This really is basic, dry camping...not a luxury campsite with amenities. We're there for the fun, the friends, and the music.
I'm really wondering if GV will re consider the fees and perhaps lower them. What would happen if we all held off awhile in buying our tickets this Friday?? I was eager to try and get my camping pass, but would GV get the message if first day sales were lower than expected?
I'm not so concerned about the reserved seat ticket prices, that's like any other concert. The closer you want to be the more it will cost. So I'm fine with GA again this year. (Thank you, Jess!) But those scalpers are in for a shock when they try and flip the tickets to make a buck. It won't happen.
Perhaps ED2 is an ok deal at $250, with a few wristbands, that can be divided with a group of four. Perhaps ED2 will be the place to be this year and ED1 will be a desolate dirt corner of the grounds with 20 RV's. Will the ED2 overflow be moved to ED1? Wow, what an uproar that will create.
Right now there is excitement and grand anticipation, the radio stations are giving away tickets, so there's alot of early "hype".. but this too shall pass.
What recourse do we have to appeal to GV to reconsider the fees, before the first day of sales? I think the decrease in ticket sales may be the loudest voice of all.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100%

That is why I am NOT purchasing reserved seating or ED1 camping for '09!!! Now I have all of this $$$$ burning a whole in my pocket.... oh, what to spend it on!!!

I know, I know.... COUNTRY THUNDER, CMA MUSIC FESTIVAL, SAN ANTONIO STOCK SHOW & RODEO (which has a KILLER' line-up in '09) etc. :D

Festival, I am happy to share the GA tickets I have already won with you!! :)

I think money right now is a whole lot more complicated. I received my IRA statement in the mail yesterday and YIKES!!! It's got me thinking twice about what I do and where I'm spending my money, especially with a new car payment. A lot of concerts I've been to lately were paid for months and months ago. It's not just the price of the ticket but also parking, food, drinks (sometimes lodging), etc... It all adds up to becoming unaffordable. I will be cutting way back this upcoming year and that's really sad for me and the economy.

I believe a lot of people will be doing the same and the first thing OFF their "to do list" is Expensive SC tickets! Layway plan or not... GV will see the reaction come Friday morning!

( This is just my 2 cents but Each of those original 20 or so Message Board people will know 30 more people that will be going to SC times another 30 more ppl and So On and So On.... Word of mouth tends to work that way!! ;) )

no idea, i don't work for goldenvoice and am not privy to anything that goes on business wise. i have been attending their concerts for half my life, though, and know they are not out to gouge the fans like many here are alleging. it's not like they are brand new to this game. they have experience and probably spent the last year pouring over numbers on how to make the event work. if this is what they came up with then i have full faith in them doing this because it is the way it needs to be done to keep the festival going. what if they just decided to cancel stagecoach altogether instead of pricing things the way they did this year?

i did have the chance to work a few shows with goldenvoice back in the day(late 90's) with a smaller promoter i worked for and it was such a relief to see things done so well. paul t. is one of the most amazing people in the industry and i know for a fact that the fans are a big concern to him.

Does Goldenvoice read these message boards?

I think the largest gripe for camping is the mandatory 6 camping passes with purchase or the mandatory 4 camping passes.

Sorry, but I'm not a camper just an observer and I think if Goldenvoice could change this new rule it would open this venue up for a whole lot more people. Isn't it better press to sell out ALL of the camping areas for 09?

I'm single and I purchase all my tickets as (one). If I was forced into always purchasing a minimum of (two) then I would not be able to go to most events I attend.

well.. another spin on this...
first of all .. they need the performers, and lots of them to attract the crowds, so far, its early and they are heading in the right direction. We'll have to see how the line up changes in the coming months.
second of all they need to make it affordable....that includes ticket prices. GA is a great deal this year.. no arguement there. But the reserved seats are questionable. I am trying to figure out who is really able to afford those prices. Not the average concert go-er. Look, we've all been to lots of concerts and events. Never have I paid that much for any event. Just wondering how many empty seats up front there will be. Third.. the cost of camping...this too has to be a do-able option. For families, couples, retired folks and single people. Each group has their own financial challenges and I'm wondering how many people can REALLY afford the $750-$850 for ED1. Seems to me from a marketing standpoint, more money can be made early on if the fees and prices were a bit more reasonable. Time will tell, but the worst part is if ticket sales do not meet expectation.. GV could very well reconsider this event.

Lots of company's have been doing business for years and know it well.Like GM and Freddie mac and Fannie may.....
This economy calls for out of the box thinking.
Layaway could hurt or help depending on who it benifits....(Promoters)
This venue Canceled or continued?
Time will tell....
Most will not be spending money like they have on there credit cards in the past....
They( Promoters) knew this when they came up with Layaway?;)

The next 6 months should be very interesting to see how it will effect them in changing and adjusting just like everyone else.....

Okay, I was able to get in contact with a producer at Goldenvoice regarding the situation with ED1 and all of your frustrations. This is how it was explained to me:

Due to the current state of the economy the promoter decided to lower the price of general admission to $99 for the 2 day pass, which is $80 less than the previous year. They did it to make the show more affordable to the greatest number of festival attendee's. Because of this they had to increase the prices of both El Dorado 1 and the International RV Camping areas. Now I know many are assuming that the cost increase has something to do with the wristbands they decided to include in the package prices. This is not the case. The wristbands that are included are thought of as a bonus for RV campers. Based on past experiences with the RV camping in prior years Goldenvoice noticed that hundreds of people purchased the wristbands only as a way to party with friends in the secure camping area. They now realize that this has not been seen as a bonus. I have been told they have operated all of the camping sites at a major loss for the past 2 years and it is admittedly their fault, not the campers, but unfortunately they can no longer operate at a loss and lower the GA prices.

This decision was made to help the 35,000+ GA ticket buyers and to provide more options to the 1000 campers(1000 spots). Those options are 4 places to camp, 3 of them being very affordable. Due to the increase in the price for ED 1 and International they decided to keep ED 2 the same plus include 4 camping wristbands in the deal. That is the same price as 2008. If you have 4 people camping in ED 2 it will be $100 cheaper than in 2008. I was told that they really do realize the price increase in El Dorado 1 is not affordable to everyone, but that they do feel they have provided options for people at all spending levels.

These are the numbers compared to last year that were emailed to me:

Tickets:
$99 weekend pass ($80 cheaper than 2008)
$399 reserved seats 50% of reserved seats (same as 2008)
$499 reserved seats 50% of reserved seats ($100 more than 2008)

On site Camping
$25 Weekend RV parking (New for 2009)
$50 Tent camping (same as 2008)
$250 Eldorado 2 - RV with 4 wristbands (same as 2008 for 2, $100 cheaper for 4)
$500 International - RV with 6 wristbands (increased for 2009)
$750 Eldorado 1 - RV with 6 wristbands (increased for 2009)

wow! thanks for the inside scoop. i think we feel pretty informed after that.

sounds like what i posted it somewhere around here... only way to ensure the masses will keep coming is to lower the price. and the few premiums available... well, the big money will come no matter what price tag you put on it. someone will pay it - i guarantee it.

so i guess if that's the balance of power that works and stagecoach rocks on, so be it. i guess it's time we come to grips with the fact that WE ARE NOT the the big money. and i'm ok with that. i'll buy my $500 ticket after all (there's just no way i can survive the dark sea 'o bodies again) and consider myself moderate money. ;)

Fans still trying to score tickets to the CMA Awards are still in luck. Chevy is offering reduced-price tickets to the show starting at 2 p.m. Central time today through tomorrow. The "Chevy Value Pack" includes either two Bronze-level CMA Awards tickets for $99, a $220 value, or two Silver-level CMA Awards tickets for $295, a $655 value. People who purchase the value packs will also get a commemorative CMA Awards poster and a 2009 Chevy Country Music Calendar. Well that settled it for me, I can't believe almost $1000 for camping for two nights. I can stay at alot of EXPENSIVE hotels in NYC or anywhere else around the world for that matter.

The first two Stage Coachs were great, and we had a really good time.

But they keep changing things for the worst every year. (Remember the first year you could stand at the stage on the sides even if you were seated in section 6)

So long Stage Coach, I won't be back....

You're not the only one bwallet. We loved going the first 2 years but they're doing their best to price out the fan base. We're trying hard to make it this year knowing it will probably be our last. Since ED1 appears to be selling out this year I'm sure it will be more next year.

Not sure why you all think you HAVE to have an RV to camp. Put up a cheap tent and you're good to go. Or there are still some cheaper hotels not that far away from Indio. You can boycott, but I'll be there in my tent!

Anybody remember last year when they made people stand up because they were in the "stand up zone" and they weren't allowed to sit. it was like against the law or something. the security came through and disabled the chairs and made people stand up. lol.... that pissed me off

Man people like to complain a lot............ The economy sucks and everyone everywhere had to raise prices of everything.... GV took major losses in the first couple years with the camping prices, so why shouldn't they raise the prices a bit... We all want to come out on top or at least almost break even, so why not GV. I think it's great that they made the Layaway option this year, that way you can spread out payments... They also made it so you don't have to buy the 'people passes' separate from the RV spot, it's included. There are also different price levels, and from what I hear (and read on the website) ED2 is going to be where the party is this year! Plus, with your 'people pass' you are able to wander freely amongst all the different campsites and party it up with whomever you want. No power? Bring a generator! Thats what I plan to do.... I've already got my spot in ED2 and have no issues going GA. I've had reserved seating there in the past, and in all honesty, I am hardly in my seats except for the end of the day when my feet are tired... This year im going GA... when I get tired at the end of the day i'll just plop my tush down on the grass! GA is really where all the fun is anyway...

Ok, now that I've rambled on forever, I'm going to stop!

Hope to see you all there!!!!!!!!!

Boy, I hope that's not true, last year I went VIP, no reserved seats tho, it was fun but everybody on stage looked like ants. So this year my husband and I decided to bite the bullet and go reserved.

It was nice..12th row..but yes...we were at other stages..and people would stand in front of you anyway..just like in GA, so sitting was far and few between..oh and the rude little girls in front of me...we couldnt move, it was our seats so had to deal with it. Had a guilt trip everytime we got up to go to a side stage, not getting out $1200 worth of seat time. Going GA this year, not worth the money, especially with this line up...just my opinion of course!! ;)

I feel ya on that! I had buyers remorse right after I put them on layaway, but by then we were stuck! I fully expect to be on my feet too, just a little closer this year. And definitely will check out the other stages (well dependant on who is playing them). Sure hope they add a few more artist or at least have some surprise guest like last year.

I agree...the camping prices are crazy! If you have a trailer, you can stay in one of the private campgrounds in the area. We have a 5th wheel trailer so we're able to leave the trailer at the RV park and drive to the Stagecoach Festival. It's much cheaper to do it that way. Of course by staying at a private campground, you can't go in and out of the festival, but who cares. You should stay there all day anyways. Good luck to my fellow campers. :)

Rose.. yes it is! do not click the link. This may help. New "member", no previous posts, odd comment and a "link" that is just a one word, perhaps underlined. Our legit links have the url, or www. associated with the link. You know the legit members here, and those that forward a link for us to view. All these recent posters have the same M.O. Don't be afraid of our regulars and their links we've opened up previously, ie. Thom's BBQ's, WWF, Stagecoach are all fine. Look at how the spammers post their links.

True, but most people on here don't do that and I don't see why you would go through all the extra steps to do that, unless you wanted the link to be included in an article, as in:

So its a pretty safe assumption that any link like that (on here) should be taken as SPAM.

when replying to a post here or making a new post there are all those little icons at the top. click on the "insert link" tab and enter the address. click "ok" and it will add that link into the body of the message. it will have the address listed twice, the 2nd one, outside the brackets, is highlighted (at least when i do it). that is the one you erase and put in whatever phrase you want. then you can submit reply and you will only see your phrase and not the actual address.

I agree with Rose...that is what it sounds like...you think you should sell your GA tickets and go out to dinner and a movie etc..Many people do that!

Orrrrrr..keep em and do $25 camping??

Orrr..option #3 to add to it, buy someones EDII ticket they are selling and sell off the extra wristbands you dont need to pay for the difference. You get six with EDII and you can sell those for $50 each. I already have 3 of mine sold.

I agree that $25 camping (even though it is not called "camping") is definately worth it. Just be prepared for that walk 2 times a day...and after a long day in the venue at that.

I camped in the closest spot you can in EDII last year, and personally, that was one hell of a walk for three days, but since it is only two days, you might be ok if you like to walk. But I think I remember you said you had kids...bring bikes? You can lock them to the fence. Many people did that.

There was a so called "tram", but we only saw it come by two times, and it is slower than walking, and then you are lucky if you can even get on it! What they need to get are those guys from the beach with the bikes and they cart you around!! Great money maker for them!

I remember someone telling us to use our bikes...I think that's a great idea. Do you think they would get stolen? Then again who carries around bolt cutters....ha ha ha

The concerts are worth it. I love how close up you can get at the smaller stages.

The people watching is phenomenal

I doubt anyone would try. The fence line is right at the entrance area. Actually there are fences everywhere. I know I don't carry any bolt cutters:cool:

People left their coolers...sheesh everything out...and no one touched anything..and so far I have not heard from anyone that had anything stolen even from their camp site. In fact our neighbors took down our awning the last night during the winds! THANK U AGAIN BOYS!

Orrrr...save your money for WWF!! Camping is very cost effective and very, very close! Just an option if you cant make SC09 or do both!

We were in tents and surprisingly nothing got stolen. I would think your bikes would be fine!

I stayed in ED 2 last year and has so much fun! We just walked to ED1 whenever we wanted to party with a different crowd! ED 2 was a lot of fun... dont count it out.

We are tent camping this year so i hope it is as fun!
