I have a dream. It's a small dream but I've still got this dream. I hope that someday, if I make enough noise, I will be able to show you all the error of your ways. Maybe my voice can convince you all that you are not listening to country music. If you were a fan of TRUE country music, you would be enjoying the likes of Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family, Fiddlin' John Carson, Wendell Hall, Gene Austin, etc. The list goes on and on of REAL country performers. These slicked up singers of today are no more country than the man in the moon! PLEASE learn about REAL country music and START TO APPRECIATE IT!

I agree!! Don't go to the event and stop complaining!!!
LOL....You poor pathetic individual. Nobody here has said one word about NOT embracing or liking "YOUR STYLE" of country music. (old school, real, the only true kind) or whatever the hell you want to call it. Get over yourself. I'm sure most of the people attending this festival. (at a much greater cost than to just see "THEIR STYLE" of country music artist I may add) Do embrace many different styles of country music. I personally am open to the wide range of styles that will be there. That's one of the reasons why I'm going to this show. Don't insult me, or the vast majority of the people on this board. You don't know anything about me, or I'm guessing most of the people posting here. If your were as smart as you claim to be. You wouldn't be spewing all of this garbage out of your mouth. You'll sway nobody to your side of the fence by being negative or confrontational about it. Please relax and give people a chance.

I have tried to give people a chance but they always disappoint me. I feel I must make an issue of this. The mis-labelling of country music is criminal. If I were king for a day, I would lock up the entire population of the city of Nashville and throw away the key!!! It truly is Murder On Music Row!!!
WISE UP! Listen to Carson Robison! Listen to Gid Tanner! Listen to Frank Luther! There is a treasure trove of REAL country music out there just begging to be discovered! Spend your money wisely! Do something to guarantee the future of country music!!! Do it before it's too late!!

Hey Angerball, Don't be a hater just cause there are different tastes of listeners in country music. Celebrate the differences and enjoy the ride.To much anger makes a person ugly on the inside.
As for Brooks and Dunn, heck yeah, I saw them last October and it was a awesome show. Couldn't believe how many people left before the song Believe, they did it as an encore, I knew that song would have to be sung during the concert.

I suppose I can allow that you kids want some variety and some more modern sounding music. I understand. It was like that back in my day. That's why I think it's perfectly acceptable to enjoy the stylings of Bob Wills or even the Hoosier Hot Shots. These acts were able to incorporate some of the more modern sounds (they actually had drums in the band) and still keep it country. As far as Brooks and Dunn go, they are NOT country. They are hard rock. One of them wears a hat so you all go along with believing that its country. I have been around long enough to know that their music is NOT country. If you'd like some REAL country music, try these artists: Roy Rogers, Jimmie Davis, Roy Acuff, Gene Autry, and Ted Daffan. Now these fellas kept it COUNTRY! You don't know what you're missing, kids. Forget Brooks and Dunn and all of these hard rock "country" singers. Listen to THE REAL THING!!

How Sad you are angerball there is a guy around message boards named ACE IN PEAR BLOSSEM WHO SAYS MANY THINGS BAD LIKE YOU. So If the country music singers you like are on the radio stations still ,what station are they on? You live in the past because you cant handle the future or the now. I am sure you will tell me Hank Williams JR was not real country. I can agree that a lot of the new country music is not what the old stuff was. But take a look at Hank Sr and Jr they are two differnt types of country. You are a sad sad person that has nothing better to do then try to piss people off. You say you won't pay for television or music. Why do you pay for internet service? Maybe it is the fact that your life is not what you wanted it to be? I dont know I don't know you. But a lot of this new country is what our lives our about these days. Not the days of Gene Autry. Thank about it Anger we are the future and the now. So Sad you have to come on here and beat on people. Bye the way my grand father a ww2 vet has Garth Brooks in the cd player at all times I am sure he dont know country music.
As far as Brooks and Dunn goes saw them in Oct in San Diego. Great show

I've seen B and D four times. I was only disappointed at the KZLA Bash last year.. the set was rushed and very short. I hope they are not influenced by the time frame and continue with the usual great show.

The lack of respect you children display is appalling. I thank God every day that America hasn't always been like this, otherwise we'd all be speaking German right now. Garth Brooks is NOT country. PERIOD. Your grandfather must secretly like rock if he likes Garth Brooks. Garth never even approached country music. It was all a marketing gimmick. Ask your grandfather if he remembers any of these names: Wiley Walker, Gene Sullivan, Red Foley, Hank Penny, Adolph Hofner, Carson Robison. THAT WAS COUNTRY MUSIC!!!
Come on, people! Let's keep that music alive!! KEEP REAL COUNTRY MUSIC ALIVE!!!

Yes Angerball I too grew up on singers like Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family, Fiddlin' John Carson, Wendell Hall, Gene Austin, Carson Robison, Gid Tanner, Frank Luther, Roy Rogers, Jimmie Davis, Roy Acuff, Gene Autry, Earnest Tubb, Red Foley, Rod Brasfield, Little Jimmy Dickens, Bill Monroe, Jim Reeves and Ted Daffan just to name a few.
My personal favorite always was and will continue to be Roy Rogers. Remember when we all aimed to be a "Square Shooter" and did our best to live up to the "Code of the West"? Roy is a true American hero similar to Audie Murphy and Alvin York. All fine individuals who actually stood up for what was right and didn't appologise for doing so.
The problem is simply this, radio stations don't play them any more. The only way we can get their music is to special order it. So we can't really blame the "young uns" for listening to what Nashville calls country western now days. They like the music they hear, just like we enjoy what we grew up with.
I agree that we need to educate the public on what real Country is. But I feel I don't need to berate the listener in doing so. I've learned I'll never win converts to the cause by insulting them or berating them. I chose to share the music I so dearly love and let it speak for it's self. Once you show them what real country is, they'll understand.

Sorry I haven't logged on in a while but my grandson hasn't been around lately to help me. sirpippen is about the only sane one on this board. I suppose I may have come on a bit strong but it's only because I am very passionate about this subject. I should probably just give up and let you kids have your fun. Just please DON'T CALL IT COUNTRY!!! It's hard rock and you know it. Go ahead and smoke your pot and listen to Brooks and Dunn. This country is going to hell anyway! I MISS HARRY TRUMAN!!!!

I saw B & D in October @ The Gibson on Citywalk in Hollywood. AWESOME SHOW. I am a Hurricane Katrina transplant here and I am here to tell you that B & D stepped to the plate and gave ALOT to my family, friends and neighbors in Mississippi. For that I will always be grateful. This concert will be my 21st seeing B & D!!!!!!!

[QUOTE=angerball;1189]I suppose I can allow that you kids want some variety and some more modern sounding music. I understand. It was like that back in my day. That's why I think it's perfectly acceptable to enjoy the stylings of Bob Wills or even the Hoosier Hot Shots.
Talk about kids, my husband is 65 (I'm 50) and he totally disagrees with you.
I never listened to country before I met my husband. I love country music as it is today and as it was in the past. I may not know the names of all the artists you have mentioned, but believe me I listen to the old stuff as well as the new stuff.
My husband has said it like it is, "I like to listen to my country music live." When you get your festival going with Ernest Tubbs, etc. he would love to buy tickets. In the meantime we will listen to the artists of today. (Who, by the way, honor country music artists of the past.) Any idea how he can buy tickets to your concert without dying first?
Music in all genres evolves as has country music. By the way, the "new stuff" is no where near being " hard rock" as you have described it. Country still imparts a sense of family and morality that "hard rock" does not.
My children are adults, but if they weren't, I would still expose them to today's country music as much as I would "yesterdays" country music. Just because you don't think it "true" country doesn't mean it's wrong.
Today's country music has brought more people to appreciate yesterday's country music more than ever. Did you ever think about that?
Thank heaven we have a new country music station in Southern California with DJs like Shawn Parr that appreciate the grass roots of country music and play a mix of everything rather just the "new" stuff. Hooray for Go Country 105.1 FM. If not for them, country music as it was and it is now would be dead in Los Angeles.
