Morning from a rainy UK. Never done anything like this before but here goes!
I just love country music but unfortunately, there is very little of it in the UK except for the occasional POP chart entry ie: Dolly, Kenny Rogers etc. A few yrs ago I went to a concert or "country festival" at the Citrus Bowl, Orlando....& loved it! I want to go to something similar anywhere in the USA, perhaps even this summer (we hav'nt had "summer" in the UK yet)!! On browsing the internet & came accros "Country Thunder" which appears to be just what Im looking for. I would be so gratefull if a member of this forum could "enlighten" me about events, accomodation etc. Many thanks for taking the time to read this rather overly long request. Geoff

Welcome GeoffR!!!

Country Thunder is in Wisconsin and starts in 2 days. I don't know if you can pull that off??? There are Country festivals all over the US and I'm sure there is not a bad one out there. Stagecoach is ours for Southern California. Tickets go on sale in November and the festival is the first weekend in May.

Geoffr...yes Country thunder has two of them, on in Arizona and one in Wisconson.
I know the one in Arizona is right before Stagecoach.

Stagecoach is new to California, only here for 2 years and already seems to be a great big hit!

Rv'ing is renting a motorhome and camping at the festival! No traveling needed once you are here. But quite a party!! We arrived on Weds eve and stayed till monday morning! concerts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I have always wanted to try a country thunder in Texas sometime!

Now So cal may have another one..********** festival also.

Thanks. Whats "RV camping"?

An RV is an American sized combi-van. Many of them have sides that slide out making the interior as big as a London flat. LOL :D

You can rent them at places like http://www.rvamerica.com/

Bloody hell!! So an RV is a giant BUS! Wow, London buses arn't that big! Not sure a great big bus is what Im looking for though. As I'll be on my own it does seem rather a lot of space. Even I can't store that much beer! Food for thought though. Thanks to everyone who has replied.......as Ive alway's thought, yours is the best country in the world. I just lurrve it!!

Rose, correct.even I cant pull off the journey to Wisconsen (I don't even know where it is)!! However, I digress. The festival in May next year. Will it be possible to stay in a hotel close to the festival & taxi in? Is there accomodation on the site for rent? The festival that I saw at the Citrus Bowl, Orlando was a days event with numerous stars: George Strait, Martina, Tim McGraw etc. Does Stagecoach have this type or am I being too pernickerty? Hope all well with you & yours. Geoff

Yes, this festival is right next to Palm Springsf (google it) and many hotels between the grounds and there. But you can also bring a tent! There is a special area just for tents, then you dont have to worry about taxi's etc. There are showers, small stores etc...just bring clothes, sleeping bag and a cooler.

The first Stagecoach had George Strait, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Brooks and Dunn as main headliners, this year there were the Judds, The Eagles, Tim McGraw, etc....HUGE headliners...look at the line up on this boards main page.

Wont know who is next year, but cant wait to find out.

If you go to the main page here and click the tab "Visitor Info" you can scroll down to the hotel websight or camping websight. There is a wealth of information there. I don't think I saw any taxi's the past two years??? It would cost a fortune and we really are not taxi people here in Southern California. Mostly car/truck folks. You can ask about a "free shuttle" from your hotel to the event through the hotel.

You may also want to check out Nashville Tennesse and their yearly HUGH festival. I have never been to it but it sounds fantastic.

So nice to receive much info. Ive just Googled "Hugh festival" in Nashville (sounds just my cup o tea) but nothing came up. Rose, do you have any further info? Always wanted to visit Nashville/Memphis etc. Last year I went to New Orleans & loved it. Unfortunately, it was just after Katrina. So, so much devastation. I hope Mr Bush has helped those folks out.
Regards
Geoff

What a line up eh? A tent? Methinks thats not for me. Last time I was in a tent I was a "cub" (below a scout!). Not that Im averce to it but for the first time I think that a hotel sounds good. Im off to google the area around Palm Springs now then to bed......its midnight here & just returned from the pub!

GeoffR...sorry about that, you took me literally. I guess I should have said it's the largest country music festival. I brought the thread back up to the top for you. It's CMA Music Festival in Nashville Tenessee. It's a yearly event.

Thanks again Rose. Ive visited the CMA site &, yes, its what Im looking for. Do you think that will be a message board which can assist me in accomodation ie: distance to venue etc? ALSO, ARE THERE MESSAGE BOARDS (IVE NEVER USED THEM BEFORE) WHICH ARE FOR SINGLE PEOPLE AS I WILL BE GOING ALONE?

The above web sight has information on travel, tickets etc.

Also check out the link I brought back up called: CMA Fest block party kick off Friday...who has been in the past. This thread is our board members discussing that festival.

If you can't make it to that festival Stagecoach is a great alternative. Southern California has so much to see and do.

Hey Geoff,

This years Stagecoach Festival is slated for April 25-26-2009 in Indio, California. You can rent hotels in the area, and get around either by rental car or taxi.

may i just say that stagecoach is a HUGE party. thats why we go. HUGE DRUNKEN PARTY with GREAT music. if you dont like to drink, this isnt the place for you. you can meet all kinds of great people. tent it for 50 USD a day and you can meet friends with RV's and party with them.

That's a pretty bold statement! There were ton's of families and people that were not drinking...yes there is a lot of it...but it is a concert! But to say it isnt the place for them??? That's not fair to say. Don't scare em away...

Yeah, no one really drunk or drinking around us...just two obnoxious 14 yr old girls that would not sit down the whole time..just stood...frozen in time. Guess the young and sober can be just as irritating:p

This was EACH night thru ALL the acts..their mom was in the Gold seats and they "told their mommy on us" for telling them to sit down for just a couple songs every now and then! ewww I was scared!! With Doug next to me...not much she would say! Everyone around me were ticked at these girls...not like they were getting into the music and dancing..just wanted to stand...and they were FRONT row of our section, which was right behind the gold seats...so NO one in their way! no reason to stand...but to be obnoxious little brats.
