Ok...
I started my summer walking today.
I want to challenge to get in great walking shape for next years stage coach...
I think to much sitting at the computer for business is bad.

So bring your walking shoes to work or set them out by the door for the morning or when you get home, and lets all encourage each other to walk daily to get ready for next years stage coach...

Who is in.....?????:D :D :D
My daughter and I walk to the polo fields and today it was two miles...
I would love to hear all of you say how easy it is next year to make the hike....
Not to mention how good it is for your heart.
Ok challenge you to log in daily with what distance you walked each day and any other feelings regarding fitness.....

Right now I'm on the "disabled list" I messed up again and wore the wrong shoes this past weekend. Disco dancing in high heals for 4+ hours (Yes, I'm stupid)

Hopefully I will be all healed up this weekend and back to my regular routine which at lunch time I walk this block that is across the street. Four laps = 3 miles. Then on Saturdays walking around Balboa park near my house is 5 miles.

The very best 10 bucks I ever spent was at target and it's a fanny pack that I use for walking. The center holds a bottle of water and it has two zippered pouches on each side. One for my keys and the other for my cell phone (just in case).

No I definitely heard it .
Love the mute feature in here kinda like when those obnoxious uninvited telemarketers call and keep saying the same thing over and over and you place the receiver down ...

Cracks me up when they are talking to themselves and after who knows how much time they finally figure it out...LOL

Must be calling all the ones in desperate need of this challenge walk yet afraid to step forward...

Don't worry I support everyone that wants to better there health...

God knows after hearing all the people that need to walk for there heart out there this is so needed...

Well good for you rose...
You will be back to walking in no time.
It will be great to have someone to walk with even if it's counting down our miles on line...
Sounds as if you are on the right track and you looked very fit when we met...
Helps keep you on the dance floor for 4 hours how great is that...

I started walking about 4 years ago. I walked out of my house to go buy a pack of cigarettes (after quitting) and I just kept walking until the urge went away. I used to chain smoke during my lunchtime and so I walk instead. I read somewhere that people are more successful at quitting smoking if they take up walking. They also say that you will gain about 5 pounds...it's more like 15 because cigarettes speed up your metoblism.

I would love to loose some weight

It's hot here too. I got back out there today and did a mile and a half with 2 pound ankle weights. If it's 105 for the next two days like the news said this morning I'll be doing my stair stepper indoors instead. I prefer to go out and see the world but I can't take this heat.

Oh I'm so proud of you my friend....
I completely understand the too hot.I met a few friends for a bit at the desert Marriott Springs sitting in the beautiful lobby so cool the bar and the birds it seemed like paradise until ya walked out side...

Guess I will stay in until later and work in the air....
I may have to do laps in the pool to cool off later...
Those ankle weights seem like a good idea...

I gotta say walking 2 miles is an amazing feeling!! Earlier this year I actually RAN 2 miles (on the treadmill, trust me it IS different) but have gotten so busy with school. I joined a weightlifting class and it sure feels good to be active again. I should get my kids walking with me again they love it and it makes it more fun!:p

I usually walk my dog 2 miles each morning before work and hopefully at least once of the weekend days. I have had a cold and been unmotivated the last 4 or 5 days but did my 2 mile walk this morning. Now if I can only get back into the gym 2 - 3 nights a week I would be on a good path. I wish they sold motivation in a bottle.

Hope this helps anyone who wants to begin...

:) How to start: First of all, start out slow and easy. Just walk out the door. For most people this means head out the door, walk for 10 minutes, and walk back. That's it? Yes, that's it. Do this every day for a week. If this was easy for you, add five minutes to your walks next week (total walking time 25 minutes). Keep adding 5 minutes until you are walking as long as desired.

WATCH your posture. Walk tall. Think of elongating your body. Hold your head up and eyes forward. Your shoulders should be down, back and relaxed. Tighten your abdominal muscles and buttocks and fall into a natural stride.

Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and after walking. Incorporate a warm up, cool down and stretches into your routine. Start your walk at a slow warm up pace, stop and do a few warm up / flexibilty drills. Then walk for the desired length of time. End your walk with the slower cool down pace and stretch well after your walk. Stretching will make you feel great and assist in injury prevention.

The toughest thing about starting a fitness program is developing a habit. Walking daily will help (a minimum of 5 days a week is a good goal)

It's going to be 107 here at work today so walking will not be an option. Hopefully I can do my stair stepper instead for a bit.

I tell you the best shape I was ever in was when I was doing Billy Blanks Tae Bo CD's. I worked up to advanced and eventually added leg weights. Where is that motivation in a bottle? Maybe I'll try and start again this weekend?

I confess I did not walk on Friday, but I had to work at warped tour and leave my house earlier than normal. Then Saturday I just chilled out all day because it was so hot out. I did manage to get myself a WII. Next goal is getting the Wii Fit. Then Sunday I had to work all day again at warped tour.

BUT today, finally back on track with my morning 2 mile walk with the dog.

This is Chrissy.. who walks with me in the mornings:

LOL now that's funny Horse.

I kinda feel guilty for reporting those threads to Countrygurl. First off I don't want to bother her or create more work. Second, what if I'm wrong. Third, it's my first time reporting a post and I don't like to be a trouble maker.

Oh my gosh...
I know..
I had a great 10 pound loss last week total..
I drink some wine and bamb 3 pounds...Whats up with that?
I know water weight...
Here is the good news Countrygurl....
Muscle weighs three times more then fat...
I started taking measurements instead of looking at weight...
I have lost inches all over the place and clothes are hanging so much better...
Drink lots a water stay away from processed....
It will melt away the fat on top of the new muscle....

I'm proud of all of you walking for your health...
Your heart loves you too....:)

I think I walk quite a bit??? but I'm just like you Countrygurl, the scale stays the same. I do it to help not smoke. After 40 my metoblism has completely shut down. Actually I noticed a difference after 30.

Walking has so many benefits ...
If you are a great weight walking helps the mind heart and soul.....
You know it sister on the over 40 dead stop in metoblism...
The only good thing about it was envy...
Watching all your friends that could eat anything from the 20's on and never gain an once...
Haaaa. Now they get to see what I have been fighting for years...
I'm horrible to think that...Slap my wrist...

2.8 miles this morning.

For those interested, I use this site http://www.gmap-pedometer.com to figure out the distance I walked and the calories burned.

You put in your address and zoom in. Start "recording" and click on points you walk. Like corner to corner or if long streets one straight line. You can choose to turn "on" calorie counting and you put in your weight and it tells you based on how far you walked what approximately you burned. It's really cool. You can even save your route and email the link to show someone the route you walked.

This looks pretty cool. Of course I can't figure it out without a little more instruction from you Countrygurl. How do I make a point?

Countrygurl
07-25-2008, 02:24 PM
after you hit the "start recording button" just double click on your starting point.. then lets say you walked 2 blocks down before you turned, double click two blocks down and it puts a line.. then double click on the next spot you turned. etc.. does that help?

Rose
07-25-2008, 03:29 PM
Those instructions help a lot! I was missing the double clicking and trying only a single click. That is just such a cool web sight. I already started marking some of the places I walk to see if it matched up with my cars odometer readings and it looks right on. THANKS Countrygurl

She kept laying down when we would walk by a shady spot. I even carried her for a couple blocks but not only does that look ridiculous, 28 pounds of dog is heavy.

Does biking count?? 32 round trip home to work. Saving a few pennies at the gas tank.
You guys are well on your way to not only being ready for the hike at Stagecoach, but having some nice legs!!! Try to incorporate some hills if you can, does wonders for the calves and quads.
Keep up the good walking.

I'll be walking plenty enough tomorrow at the LA County Fair.

it's like a billion humid degrees out here in Chatsworth so lunch walking has become lunch shopping in airconditioning.

come on Kymery, just two step your way around the block! :D

Countrygurl
09-05-2008, 08:57 AM
I agree with Rose.... Kymery just go ahead and two step around the block.

Sometimes what motivates me is I put on my ipod to a good song and I have indeed danced my way around the block..not caring what people though. They should be thinking "man she must like that song" . ahhaha.

I need some new tennies too I think. The ones I got for xmas already seem worn out.

2.9 sweaty miles this AM.

Hey ladies... It's been awhile since I've been here... I've also been out walking to be in better shape (hence my username). I actually singed up to walk a half marathon (13 miles) in Oct. in Long Beach as my inspiration. Got myself to walking 7 miles just yesterday! Planning to go up one mile every week, got 5 more weeks to go till the big day. I gotta say this, it does feel good - I'm getting addicted to it. Good Luck and hang in there ladies!

NOOOO...doggie is on restriction! I was taking boys to school yesterday and came home and as I turned the corner to my home she was sniffing the plants...busted her...RED PAWED, not even gone 7 minutes!! she ran home so fast...then she was afraid to go in the gate.

Darn boys left the RV gate unlatched when they went in it on Saturday. She knows to check it often, she can even kinda lean up and pull on the cable to open it, so we have to keep a lock in the hole...damn Houdini dog!

Ok, WTF is all this walking hype? I don't get it.

I was hitting a low, feeling depressed, turned around to see my dog give me that "mommy??" look. Ok, tell her to go get her leash, she FREAKS out, can't find it, it's hanging on the bar stool dumb dumb. Strap her in, and as usual, she has to bite and carry her own leash, heaven forbid!

We head out and I get 200yds away and ask my self: what the hell am I doing? It is 95degrees out here. But.... I am a strong, determined girl and trek on. I get half way around the inside of my track and realize i am committed, if I turn back, it is just as far as finishing the other side. So forward hoe I go.

Apple thinks she has to stop at every lawn and mark it!! Come on girl...just walk next to me, stop sniffing and squatting!!! Now, she is a very well trained lab, but she apparently wanted to let all the other doggies know she is QUEEN.

My luck...it is trash day, so the smells were horrible, as was the view...WTF that the city can't make gutters that actually drain DOWNHILL into the sewer, so much moss and slime...ewwwwwww. Neighbors wasting water, sprinklers stuck on it seemed for hours, streets flooded. Oh...then the wonderful dogs that feel they have to show all their teeth and growl as us for 100 yrds before and 100 yrds after their yards? Now...not to mention all the homes in foreclosure with dead lawns and papers from advertising everywhere.

Guess I haven't been out much, I work from home, and that is as far as I get, here and across the street to get my mail.

So, I get home, my arms are stuck together at my pits, I am sweating like a hog, dog is panting, even too much to get a darn drink and I didn't even loose a pound!!!!! I still ask my self: WTF was all that about?

Ok, maybe I will try again tomarrow...maybe with the trash cans gone it will be a better smelling walk?? (yeah right...who puts them away when they are empty!!!??? I mean, what's three more days out in the street in front of your home?)

ps: tennies felt good!

ha ha.. so true! walking is hard work. I have the same problem with a 10 lb terrier...has to sniff and squat at every lawn. Not a brisk walk at all. I pray she doesn't want to poop on someones yard, and if she assumes the "position", i yank her so she doesn't...poor doggie. I fear big dogs on the loose and shudder if by chance one has gotten out of the yard and runs towards me and "sunny". Leash law??
My Wii Fit is looking better and better....

All I have to say is.....
I'm proud of you and you did it....
Just think of the tales you will have to tell and it does get easier...
My corgi is also a sniffer...
So he must do walks with the pinch collar so he will be well behaved.

I also take my blue poop bag for the occasional relaxed moment...
I learned to pick it up on the way back...
I also have a blessed walking trail and no loose dogs and all the homes are in gated communities...
Yet I do remember the Yucaipa house and having to take a large stick for loose dogs....
Fresh air is good for you and hope tomorrow is a better time...

3 miles today.

Kymery I can't walk at lunch when it's over 95...I feel like I'm getting heat stroke when I try. You should walk my work neighborhood at lunch. It's a perfect little island and TONS of people watching to do. Somedays I think I've seen it all...one time a guy just whipped it out and took a wiz up against a tree right out in the open. Car loads of kids smoking pot. People living in their motor homes and trying to keep ahead of the cops. Lots of people outside taking smoking breaks. I get honked or waved at by the mailman, UPS guy, our trucks and whoever else I know and it makes me feel good to be outside. My Ipod motivates me to keep walking.

Duh,.....my IPOD! Sheesh, even my iphone..same thing! I gotta get that out, that will help pass the time. I knew i bought it for a reason!

Not much happens in this neighborhood. Pretty boring. Well, that is until the Asians get busted growing pot in their 4000sf homes or down by the riverbed. That's always fun.

I'm still walking.
Yesterday 3 miles.
Today just around the block...it's hot in Chatsworth - 101. Hard to believe that it rained here on Saturday.
