OK, so here is my thought. Country music is awesome. I love everything about it--everything it stands for and every picture it paints.
I love country radio, the CDs, the videos, the live shows in person, and the live shows on TV. I love the awards shows and I love the people that love country.
But, what is going to happen to it?
With gas prices going up, there are going to be fewer trucks. Songs like "Pick Up Man", "We Rode In Trucks", and others are going to be naustalgia before too long.
Similarly, with energy (and electricity) prices going up, songs like "Every Light In The House Is On" will be long gone.
"International Harvester" will not be a song about a farmer in the United States working hard. It will be about some scrawny little pitiful person in a far away land harvesting food to export to us.
All the songs about going to Mexico for fun and vacationing will no longer be about that.
What are all of the "rock stars" coming into country trying to rejuvenate their careers going to do to country? Will they be more inclined to sing songs without the country values and pictures we've loved for so long? The rock stars coupled with all of the things happening above might expenentially set country music out into space.
What do you guys think? Is there any hope for our country music? Is it doomsday or are these all opportunities for country music to get better (how can it get any better?).
Trace Adkins is telling us that "You're gonna miss this" and Kenny Chesney is telling us to "Don't Blink". Are these signs? :)
Dear country music, please don't go anywhere. Don't make Tim McGraw have to add another verse to his "Back When" song.
