Thanks for the post Horse. I didn't know anything about "nashville star" Sixth season??? geez, It's not cool to be out of the loop so much.

This is going to get me into trouble but Jewel? switching from pop to country? maybe just because she married ty murray? my friend Joe remembers her sleeping in a van with one of his close friends, traveling around and being a nobody. He was the one looking to "make it" in the music business and she did instead. Life is just like that.

I'm sure she is...

Joe just remembers his "buddy" getting dumped and hurt.

You know how it is from the story on the other side.

My side is always "their fault" and I'm the perfect one hehehe :D
It reminds me of Taylors "picture to burn"

I'm definately watching! This has been one of my favorite things to watch for the past 5 years!

Background info for those that didn't know: It used to be on the USA channel late at night (10pm is past my bedtime ;) ). Buddy Jewel was the first winner and Miranda Lambert came in 2nd--that is why they are famous today. Chris Young is another winner from a past year. Hosts of the past have included Jewel, Cowboy Troy, Wy, LeAnn Rimes. Troy and Jewel actually were great as hosts--Troy has repeated multiple years. The artist judges are another great thing about the show. This show kicks American Idol's butt.

I'm concerned about this year's season being on NBC now. NBC probably just aquired it because of the writer's strike and I'm afraid they will try to change it in some way to make it better (but it ends up making it worse). I have some doubts going in, but am still very excited.

Usually all the artists are great and it is a good ol' country time. Can't wait for Monday!

Def not me! Anything with ANY Cyrus involved is too much for me to take.....and the fact that it is now on one of the main networks....makes me nervous....I love Miranda and I LOVE Chris Young so good has come out of the show...I just hope they stick to people who are country singers that want to make it as country stars...not just people desperate to become famous as a "singer/artist" so they will sing whatever type of music and go on any old singing show...

Ok....
It was not a pretty sight or should I say sound last night...
My input is they are starting them out slow.....

Ok there is three that could do it in my opinion from what I saw and heard last night....
I never remember names it is horrible so here is my best shot.
The cute blond in the middle of the night...Great look great vocals already....
The wow looking guy and may I say he can model for my lens anytime...
He should be put together by the end of the show.Just a bit shy and the problem of overcoming his handicap of perfect looks...

Ok and the last one I think Melissa.Wow she had the sound and passion in her eye to make it happen....Anyone else think she reminded them alot of Wynonna's sound or Lisa Marie Presley. Also nice to see a full figured mom of 5 that can play the stage and belt out amazing vocals....

My top three pick is now in....;)
Lots will evolve during the season and we may get a big surprise...
Looks like it will be a good run and Billy ray looked pretty good to my suprise( still hard to get that mullet out of my head).lol....:)

Well, I finally watched this last night.

Is it just us or did they all sound bad? I like the Gomez guy with the huge family. Reminded me of Rick Trevino.

And I have to say it: Billy Ray is sooooooooo boring...get that damn mike out of your face, get a shirt mike and RELAX! He is reading like a robot. Sure makes you appreciate Seacrest.

I also was tired of the camera mans shots...always going back to the one section..boring.

Hopefully it will get more relaxed and not so monotone.

Oh...who is that Blond guy..we cant figure it out. Jeff??something?

hopefully not...but the headliners on msn were already comparing the dumb remarks that were made by Jewel being the same as Paulas.

Oh and I loved the tiff between John and Jewel about who can sing better! They were arguing it out!

Oh and I figured out who that blonde judge is, a songwriter. Jeffrey Steel

Tivo is one of the most awesomest things ever.

Amazon has a $200 rebate right now on the series 3.

Plus Tivo has brought back the lifetime membership.

So, for about $500, you can have a lifetime of Tivo.

At about $15 a month for a DVR from your cable service, you're paid back in 2 1/2 years.

The Tivo HD is about 1/2 that price so your payback is probably only 1 year.

Then, it's free* for life after that. So, it is actually a good deal. And the software updates are free--so you don't have to worry about it being obsoleted.

( * You do need to rent two cable cards from your cable company--for about 6$ a month)

Thank you HBR, I was doing some research yesterday...might have to just sneak that in for his Fathers Day present...make him want it!! ahahahaha We have HD on all three of our big TV's, so I thought I needed the HD one, I have Direct TV also, and wondering if Tivo is better to get and use the $6 card with no HD recording (he would hate that) or get the Direct TV one with HD DVR

both of those Tivos I mentioned have HD video.

The "Tivo Series 3" is the big daddy of the Tivos (does HD, faster performance, comes with a better remote, looks better ha ha)

The "Tivo HD" is the little daddy (does HD, but smaller hard drive)

kymery...do you have Time Warner cable service? I haven't jumped into the direct tv arena yet, but with my time warner, I have a DVR box and we record everything. Works like TiVO.. I think the monthly fee is $15 for the HD-DVR box.

I have both the old lifetime Tivo and the DVR from the cable company....both have their advantages.....love the lifetime Tivo cuz, well, its paid for and the user interface is much more user friendly than any cable provided DVR in my opinion. BUT the cable provided one is great in that if it craps out on you it can be replaced (already had to replace one)and when new versions with more memory come out, you can have the cable company swap it out usually for for free....guess it just depends on your personal TV viewing preferences/habits...and lets just say I love TV...HD sports was the worst thing to happen to my social life....I don't have to leave the house!! LOL!!:D

that's right..they have swapped out our boxes without any questions. They've set up our HD service at no charge. Now, I am not a huge fan of TW cable, I think direct TV has more HD channels and more viewing options..but sometimes I don't want to deal with change. But I have to admit...I love having the option of recording shows and watching them later, and speeding through the commercials..DVR or TiVO

The reason I got Tivo was because my cable company's DVR was really awful (Verizon FIOS). I had Time Warner's DVR and that was pretty good, but even compared to Time Warner's, Tivo's is way better.

Just a little history for the rest of you....

The first five seasons of the series have launched the careers of promising artists including Chris Young, Buddy Jewel, Erika Jo, current ACM triple nominee Miranda Lambert, Lance Miller and Angela and Zac Hacker -- the siblings who made it a family affair by coming in first and second, respectively, last season. Buddy Jewell debuted his self-titled CD at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and was eventually certified gold by the RIAA.
Runner up Lambert became a household name when her "Kerosene" became the highest-selling debut album of 2005 and then went on to be certified gold as well. Erika Jo landed at #5 on the same chart with her self-titled debut CD and at #27 on the Hot 200 Album Chart (all genres), outselling Kenny Chesney, Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, Tim McGraw and Shania Twain, among others. Most recently, Chris Young debuted his self-titled CD at #3 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, making him the top-selling debut male artist of 2006.

This guy could make it...

Originally from Louisiana, Justin left home at age 17 to pursue a career in music, while supporting himself as a model. Only after breaking up with his long-distance girlfriend did Justin realize how isolating living on your own can be at a young age. With his good looks and great voice, Justin is the ultimate teenage country heartthrob.

Or Ashlee has a great shot at making it...

With her dad currently in Iraq training Iraqis, Ashlee is hoping to stay on the show for a few weeks so her dad can see her perform when he returns to the States for a short leave. One of 13 children, Ashlee grew up on a 2,500-acre horse ranch in Minnesota and is a true country girl — comfortable driving tractors, catching fish or riding one of her family's 70 horses. Now, Ashlee's left her family and her farm to move to Nashville in pursuit of her dream.

Or last but not least Melissa...
She has a great shot .

At age 32, Melissa is the oldest female contestant this season on "Nashville Star." A working mother with five sons, Melissa wants to prove that country music is about the songs and the voice, not the size jeans you wear. She's the "every" woman in pursuit of the ultimate dream, and she didn't leave her family to lose the competition.

Just compared to the Tivo--it's less user friendly. I can record things and then put them on a dvd since I have a recorder. If you just one to record one thing at once, buy the TIVO that is compatible with satellite systems. Otherwise, if you want to record 2 things at once (like I do), you are stuck with the DirecTV DVR. If you've never had TIVO you probably won't know the difference. A DVR of any kind is better than none!

Nashville Star" - Justin Gaston Eliminated
It's the end of the line for Justin Gaston.

He's been booted from NBC's "Nashville Star." The judges actually liked his performance last night of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," but it was too late to matter. Jewel said he was "most improved" and Jeffrey Steele said he did a "great job" but the fan vote was already in.

Gabe Garcia was spared another week after being one of the top vote getters. The judges loved his rendition of Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca." John Rich said Garcia "pulled it off big time," while Jeffrey Steele said "you blew my mind." The judges also raved about Melissa Lawson's performance of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors." Steele gave it a 10, while Rich called Lawson a "true artist." The judges panned Alyson Gilbert's take on Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now." Steele called her "Dr. Jekyll, Alyson Hyde," adding he didn't know who he was getting from week to week. Rich just asked her "What are you doing?" Too bad she also picked a song he said he can't stand.

Last nights show really sucked EXCEPT the performance by Blake Shelton singing my new favorite song "home" off of one of my new favorite albums "more bs".

is it me or does jewel seem like a total chick, and get catty when it comes to commenting on the girls? i'm STILL standing up, scratchin' my head wondering how the hell that lady became a country music authority??

Statler Brothers Not Fans Of Reality Tv Talent Shows
STAUNTON, Va.
As kids the Statler Brothers did a few talent shows, but they're not fans of the new crop of reality talent competitions like "American Idol" and "Nashville Star." Don Reid says the talent shows when they were coming up "were of a much more gentle nature than they are now." Harold Reid isn't as kind in his criticism. He says "I never found the charm in standing up in front of 50 million people and being humiliated." He says he doesn't see how that has anything to do with furthering ones talent. He says those shows are "horrible" and "degrading." He says "you literally go on there to lose your dignity." The brothers have complied memories of their childhood and life on the road in their book "The Statler Brothers: Random Memories," which is on sale now.

Nashville Star" - Ashlee Hewitt Says She Lost The Title But Won A Friend
She missed out on the title of "Nashville Star," but Ashlee Hewitt didn't walk away from the show empty-handed. She made a lifelong friend in fellow contestant Shawn Mayer. Hewitt says "we always jammed in the hotel and we always had a really cool connection." She says the two have big plans after the show to write together. Hewitt says she hasn't been approached about a record deal yet, but has gotten great encouragement from people like host Billy Ray Cyrus. She says he took her aside after the show and told her she was "awesome." Hewitt said Cyrus told her his manager had been her Number-1 fan and could open a lot of doors for her. The four remaining finalists on "Nashville Star" are Gabe Garcia, Melissa Lawson, Coffey and Shawn Mayer. On next week's show, the contestants go back to their home towns. Also, next week is the last time America will get to vote.

I accidently caught last nights show because I was busy at the computer working on my pictures I took at Dwight's concert.

Who is going to win?

My vote is for Gabe.

What do you think?

At least they were trying to sing country last night for a change.

Final Tonight....:D

John Rich thinks only two contestants really have a shot at winning tonight's "Nashville Star." He believes it's between Melissa Lawson and Gabe Garcia. But he says "it's too close to call." So what about Shawn Mayer? Rich says she has massive potential, but that "Gabe and Melissa without a doubt are vocally head and shoulders above" her. And Rich is so enthusiastic about Lawson that win or lose she's likely to still come out on top. He says "if she doesn't win it and she wants to work with me. I will be sitting on go."

John got his wish.

I wonder if the ratings were good enough to do another season? They need to replace Billy with the gal from CMT (sorry I don't remember her name). At least she pretends that she wants to be there.

I know I started watching and then stopped.

Melissa Lawson Says She Was Shocked She Won The Show
:D Winning NBC's "Nashville Star" means life for Melissa Lawson's family is about to change, big time. One of the changes involves relocating from Texas to Nashville. They've already put their house up for sale. Lawson says, "There's no doubt about it that it'll be a challenge." But she says, "all in all, life is full of challenges and obstacles." She says, "It's our job to go over those hurdles and keep moving forward." Lawson, who is the mother of five young boys, says her children will remain her top priority. She says, "I'm definitely not going to be an absent parent. I'm going to be right there with them." She hopes all the travel she'll have to do in the beginning will, in the end, allow her more time to spend with her children. Lawson's win earned her a record contract with Warner Brothers Records. And next week she'll perform live from the Summer Olympics in Beijing. Her performance will air on NBC's "Today" show.
