I went to a competition last night put on by The Next Big Star. It was at the Hard Rock Cafe at Univeral Citywalk. There were four artists competing. The prize for the winner was to open for Kenny Chesney in a couple of weeks among other things like $25k and to actually tour with Kenny the last weekend of his current tour. There were two bands and two solo artists. I can't remember the names of the two women that sang. They had very nice voices, however, one sang only covers and neither had tremendous stage presence in comparison with the bands. The two bands to check out were:
Matt Cline
Brian Stace
They both have MySpace pages I'm sure. They were quite different, and it all comes down to that preference comment we had a while back. Brain Stace puts on a heck of a performance, and musically he is decent. They have the 'look' and their music is more in line with the type of country Kenny sings. Matt Cline is more Country/Bluegrass/Bordering on Rock. They were energetic, but definitely not as 'performance' heavy. I could tell musically their music was more solid and tight. I also thought that their music wasn't really in line with the type of country Kenny plays. Anywho, Matt Cline won. A good friend of mine is friends with Brian Stace. He was very disappointed I'm sure.
Here's a shout out to both bands and a recommendation to check them out. I know more about Brian's band, and I know that he has gone to Afghanistan on more than one occasion so kudos!! :D
