Dwight is not the best performer in the world, but he's got some good songs. He's a damn good actor to boot.

I usually see between 20 and 40 concerts a year -- of various artists, mostly country but a little of everything else as well. Dwight was my hands-down favorite for Best Show last year... when I saw him, he was awesome and gave the longest concert of any country act I've ever seen.

He just finished shooting "Panic Room" and was beat up I heard, so maybe that played into it. Kind of like the Tim thread, maybe I caught Dwight on a bad night. I thought the same of George Strait. He has a lot of great songs, but he was B-O-R-I-N-G on stage.

G.S. is never boring on stage. That is just how he is. A simple man with his guitar and singing songs. I am their for the music not so much his performance. im sorry. George is great wherever and whenever.

That is true about George, and you have to understand that going in or you will be dissapointed. It was hard seeing him at the Mirage, having to sit all proper and not get up and dance...but when you do just sit back and listen to him and his music, it is an experience of a lifetime!:D

Whoo hoo, we are going to Dwight, Doug just bought me 3rd row seats with dinner included! Not a bad price considering, it included 3 course dinner, vip parking (yeah right) and entrance to the fair.
Kymery

Nevermind...he would have to take two days off to get us to SD in time for dinner, not worth the loss in income. Oh well.

Didn't know that going in. I didn't say the music wasn't good, but I said his stage presence made it kind of boring. Again, preference, preference, preference. It was just that Tim had whipped the audience up into a frenzy after a long, hot, artist filled day of drinking, and the momentum was building and then wa-wa-wa. A lot of people started leaving. I guess if it had been in a different atmosphere, it would have been fine, but it was kind of a buzz kill for many this particular time. A friend of mine loves Collin Raye, and I was a little concerned going in since his music is fairly low key, but he shocked the HELL out of me. Vince Gill too.

05-09-2008, 08:53 AM
Oh I agree, his stage presence is slow but hey it IS George.
You are completely correct on Tim, same feeling here, all worked up, and my husband and I just looked at eachother and said, what the F?? Is this for real?

There are people on this very board who were complaining about the artist not making a connection with the audience, and that was EXACTLY how I felt about George. He hardly spoke a word. Sure he pumped out song after song, but by the definitions that were derived by others on this board, should I say that his performance sucked? No, it's George, and that would be sacraligious. Hopefully point made. ;) LOL P.S. Felt the same about Dwight. He lacked that same connection, but he probably was having a bad night.
Kymery
05-09-2008, 12:33 PM
I agree, but such as Tim, he is known for a good, outgoing show, so it is expected i guess, and with George it isnt expected, so cant say he sucked, unless you are a virgin listener to that artist and dont know better.
We did notice Dwight was a bit slower than I have seen him before, but still out there and audience was liking it. I think...
I LOVE story tellers on stage connecting with the audience! It really does make all the difference between a good show and a great show. Toby's a good story teller, and wise cracker. Garth was a great story teller! Awww.... miss Garth. "I'm so glad you asked about my husband... no one ever does." ha ha ha that was funny trisha. = )

Amazing, stay off for two days and I figure that you would get the hint to shut up and not mention any reference about me again after many have asked nicely.
I am going to, nicely and respectfully, ask that you take your attitude away from me. If you want to attack me, then do it privately, either by PM, or meet me in person so you can call me names to my face and we will take it from there!!!
Leave my name, any reference, any hints, any thoughts, any inuendos, and stupid comments, like brownie leader, etc, of ME out of your posts.
I want to come here and enjoy my friends that I met and any newbies that come on. I enjoy this site and you have made it miserable to me. NO I am not insecure, in pain, selfish, nor are my feelings hurt, this is just not the place, so take it to me privately and personally.
If anyone else does not mind your "personality" on here, then so be it, they can be entertained by you as much as they want.
Whats sad is that this all started by me saying that I WANTED to read your posts, but you misread the post and took it personally, just like you are accusing me of doing when you refer to me, as well as how I see you treat/refer to other members on this board, if they like it fine, that is up to them to accept it or not. If you continue to do so, I will take other routes, but I ask you one more time to stop!
Regards,
Kymery

I saw him in Tx with a bunch of other artist. He is just to darn cute! He brought up a soldier that was in the audience as his special guest on stage. Then he invited him back to his bus to hang out with him when the show was over to show how much he appreciates the soldiers! He has a wonderful story about his support. I just love that he is so supportive of the troops!

I had my first trip to the US when we arrived in LA. on May 2nd. Came all the way from Norway. Went to Stagecoach the next day, so unfortunately we missed out on John Fogerty and Eagles which are big nomatter what music you like.
The artists we know most of here back home is Dwight Yoakam, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and Gretchen Wilson. To be honest, country music is not that big here in europe.
Loved the show Dwight Yoakam put on. It was awsome. But I must admit I was really disappointed that he did not play on main stage. The stage he played in was crowded. Fortunately we met up early and stayed close to the stage :)
Had never heard of some of the others playing, but got to like some of their songs straight away.
I hope I will be home next year for stagecoach then as well:)

Wow, first trip to the US and you made it to Stagecoach? great!! mark your calender for next year too, then. Stay current on the message board. I agree about Dwight, he should have been on the mane stage. His fans filled the tent and overflowed all around, too. We are pretty lucky we have the chance to see so many artists on any given weekend, sometimes we can't get to all of them. Lots of new and upcoming performers too, so keep your itunes current.
