Seemed like gazillions to me
Newpaper - Sun Times stated that last year was 55,000 and this year was 120,000. It took Coachella 4 years to do what Stagecoach did in 2. Sorry Cooter, I know you don't like Stagecoach.
When I was there on Friday I was guessing 70,000. Saturday I looked at the crowd and said 100,000. I was of course wrong, but what's an additional 20,000 friends or so? :D

that's 55,000 over 2 days, so 27,500/day...and 120,000 over 3 days, that would make it 40,000 per day this year. the way they write that stuff is so deceiving. coachella sells out around 50,000-60,000 now and there was no way there were that many people there at all on any day this year. come to coachella and you will see what crowded is...
and where have i said i don't like stagecoach??? i am not really a fan of country music, but i love stagecoach.

It's insane how many more people there were this year compared to last year. I kept turning around just to look at the sea of people. Truly a crazy sight!

That's if the same amount of people show up each day to break down to 40,000 per day. Friday was a whole lot less of a crowd then Saturday or Sunday. It seemed that Saturday was the largest but I'm just guessing.

There is no way there were that many people there. I think that the shade tents made it look deceiving. It didnt seem as busy last year. Food lines were much shorter.
Oh and THANK YOU to whom ever suggested more bathrooms. Wow what a difference this year!! :)
I don't care,back in '09

I heard from a pretty reliable source that it was 30k on Friday, well over 60k on Saturday, and the original estimate of 40k on Sunday was looking like it was gonna be closer to 60.

sorry, wrong. coachella sells out at 50,000-55,000 people. no way in any shape or form were there that many people at the show on saturday or sunday. not even close. period.
i have seen the crowd full from the front of the mainstage all the way to the back near the merch...on top of that there were still thousands upon thousands of people at the sahara/tent, along with the 2 other tents and the outdoor theatre. that is all with people standing, too. stagecoach has so many people sitting down in chairs and that takes up a lot more space, making it appear more crowded. if all those people were standing and squished towards the main stage then the place would look even less crowded. everywhere besides the mane stage at stagecoach was pretty much desolate, save for a couple acts at the palomino.
does your source work for fox news???

Cooter: I have to say that I would'nt rely too much on that source either... Becuase Sunday was by far the most crowded day of the event. So unless it was someone that actual sat there and counted the tickets for each day...
Also, how could they gage? By number of tickets printed and bought/given... Because I know that there was reserved seating that was not sold or used.. And I am almost positive that there were a ton of GA tickets that were not used..

I'm trading snuff that they gave me at the info booth when I was looking for a red cup to pour my beer in. I had to go to the snocone place to get a cup then I made a black raspberry flavoured beer - it was good!

Yes, we were offered promo stuff too. Many country concerts do that, Copenhagen and the like give away tons of snuff packs...full ones at that, not just samples.

No, my source is on the security side. You know, the one's that kinda need to know how many people are there. So, I have a source that has a pretty good idea of number of people in attendance and your source is your eyes...we probably don't need to continue this banter.

sorry, my source is also the promoter, who is a good friend of mine. still wanna place a bet?
you telling me there were more people there than this, this is a sold out Coachella in 2004, with 60,000 in attendance. this photo doesn't even show the thousands upon thousands of other people at the outdoor stage and 3 tents. stagecoach was nowhere close to this.

I don't care for the numbers enought to watch you all go at each other...
BUT THAT IS AN AWESOME PICTURE COOTER!!!!!

Cooter, that explaination of standing people vs the chairs, I agree, then it would be more people packed in closer. It sure looked like at Stagecoach it was packed back to the vendors also, but there was a lot of emptyness between the stages, and the side stages were crowded but not with so many people that I wasnt able to move up to the front on a couple of them.
Didnt they allow chairs at Coachella?
Cooter
05-12-2008, 09:08 AM
nope, no seating, not allowed to bring chairs in, either. there also aren't any vendor booths, except for the food areas and the official merch tent. the bbq area at stagecoach is the outdoor theater at coachella. so all of that is filled with concert-goers, as well. we do get nice green, lush grass, though. at least for the first day...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v97/forgotaboutsteve/IMG_1967.jpg
you can see the difference in setup here:
http://www.coachella.com/images/mappy2008.jpg
http://www.stagecoachfestival.com/images/map08.jpg
consider how empty the left side of that map is for most of the weekend of stagecoach. the palomino filled up a few times. during coachella when it's the sahara it is pretty much full the entire time, it's where all the dance music/electronic fans hang out a good portion of the time. the other 2 tents are pretty well attended, too. def. can't say the same for the half-pint hootenanny and the mustang.
Why different rules if it's all run by the same people?
Kymery
05-12-2008, 09:11 AM
my guess: possibly getting roudy at those concerts, the bands (and note I do like some of that music, so not attacking) dont want chairs being thrown around, people making mosh pits etc?? Ok, Ok, I am thinking of my 80's punk days. lol
Basically safety. ORRRRRR, so that they can fit more people in?
And sheesh, can you imagine loosing your friends, you would never find them, can say, oh, I am the third chair up and two pink blankets in, look for me, I have the Steelers blanket! ahahahah
