View Full Version : DISPLACED FROM EL DORADO 1?

Stagecoach2
05-05-2008, 09:09 AM
Just returned from year 2 at Stagecoach and have to say that I can't conceal my disappointment with this year's event. Our weekend started by being displaced from our bought and paid for spot WITH HOOK-UPS in El Dorado 1. We were moved to International with the excuse from the Stagecoach employees that the police had shut down El Dorado 1 due to fire lane issues. We learned later that the lot had not been parked correctly starting on Wednesday night when it opened--it turned into a free for all with people moving and parking wherever they pleased. The camping refund we received did us little good as we were unprepared to be without hook-ups all weekend long--food, gas, a/c, etc. Later, we walked through El Dorado 1 and saw that the place was wide open. Took a picture of 1 RV using 3 spaces--one for his rig, one for his bar, and the third for his game of ladder golf. What I can't understand is Goldenvoice's complete unwillingness to assert some of their (ultimate) authority and move these people so the 40 or 50 of us who were displaced could get our rightful spots that we purchased--not cheaply either! We were told by them that people were being uncooperative and wouldn't move. Tow them, then, or put a boot on their RV and have them deal with it on Monday when they try to leave. Additionally, security was basically a total waste this year--we were given Mane Stage (allegedly) 'all access' wristbands to compensate for our RV displacement--but, the rules constantly changed regarding access for those wristbands. In fact, by Sunday, we were no longer permitted to use the VIP restrooms that, again, we BOUGHT and PAID for with our reserved seating. Complete lack of consistency all weekend long. I was so impressed with the venue last year that this year was a complete disappointment--right down to the toilet paper being empty in the restrooms by 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon when the gates didn't even open until 3:00 p.m. I reallly hope they get a handle on all of this for next year or this will be just another case of greed and size getting out of control and making a good thing go bad for no other reason than lack of organization and control.

Ok I completely agree on the security issues and them changing there minds within the hour...
I think the real problem was security not having clear communication skills or staffing ..
Maybe they should hire someone other then Bower Security next year...
Don't get me wrong some of there employees were amazing while others were complete power idiots with no common sence...

I never went in the campgrounds so could not comment...
Never heard a peep from my camping forum friends even though I called and left a message..
They must have been bommed...:D

Exactly...
Thats why after three days of being flaked on of people not showing for other things I could not take time from my shooting to meet up.I thought what's the use they won't be there..
Try to be a nice guy and thats what ya get..
There were a few of ya we met and wow what a nice bunch they were not to mention a few that were so generous to my sis on the board I know who they are and I'm more then happy to share my photos of ft stage with them....
Oh yes and once more my hats off to the folks from goldenvoice...
Class act all the way ..
You know who you are..
I think come Friday you all need a vacation and a raise for pulling that venue off ....:)

They couldn't even get the Tow Vehicle description correct on their Website-

They sold Electric "Hook Ups" separately:rolleyes:

I saw Rv Camping trouble a long time ago and was not let down upon arrival on Thursday when they tried to make me park within inches from another Rig and the Parking Staff had no clue as to what size each space was supposed to be.

I doubt I'll go next year-

All in all it was fun and we had a great time but I don't know if I can support GV or Stagecoach when they screw so many folks with their incompetence-

there are plenty of hotels and homes for rent for much less than what the rv packages cost.

ours actually started out bad, but we went, spoke to a couple of people and it all worked out wonderfully. however, had we been about 10 minutes later, we'd have been screwed on the electrical. They were ready to compensate us though. I thought they did their best only next year, maybe they shouldn't use "Coachella roll-over workers".

We ended up being lucky too, but you're spot on when it comes to the camping. They really need to get rid of the "parking attendants" (I like the Cochella leftover comment) and get somebody with a little authority and a good set on them. The lack of organization turned out to be the only thing that kept us in our spot. Some guys said it was OK and some said to move, but no one was sure enough to make a firm decision. The spaces need to be bigger and well marked. It's not like they just barely broke even this weekend. The unfortunate thing is that if we don't go next year someone else will just take our spot. What's the incentive for the powers that be to make any changes? Maybe someone from the event would be willing to chime in here?

I agree with you guys, I went last year was impressed decided to camp this year even though it was doable to drive everyday. Went this year impressed with line up and most performances but not impressed with employees knowledge of camping spots, sizes and general information. Will not camp again.

Sitting here thinking, and I just wanted to say that the Promoters Paul, Skip and the rest at Goldenvoice put together a great line up and we Do appreciate being able to see all these artists at one place. A lot of hard work, determination goes into these events, and like anything else there is something that goes wrong.
But maybe all of these comments could serve as a avenue too review some issues.

my hats off to all the police officers and medics and Firemen who did a great job as well. Everyone of them we met were very nice and patient. Thanks guys!

wow its too bad about eldorado 1..eldorado 2 was wide open till later Saturday when they turned a open corner into general parking..its all luck of the draw on your spot. Personally our spot was awesome. Facing a firelane, by the shower truck with a garbage can. No bar or internet cafe or general store but they drove around selling ice and we walked over to Eldo #1 when we wanted something. People who didnt like they're spot on Thur or Fri just up and moved their rig to a new spot on Sat a.m. and no lines to get in either ..Eldorado 2 looked like a madhouse w/ rvs in line for awhile all over.

Wow, you guys are harsh. We didn't intentionally flake on you. We started walking from the tent forum to the venue at 1PM. It took A LONG time to walk in the sun, carrying all our stuff. Then we got stuck in security and were searched much longer than anyone else. By the time we got into the venue and were heading over to the picture spot, I was told, never mind--no one showed.

Horsephotographer, I didn't have your number so that's why I didn't call you.

I agree with the parking, we got there Weds eve and they wanted us to park so close to the RV bus next to use, both of us couldnt open our sliders, or our doors, we moved over a bit, it was bad, people paying off the attendants, by Fri am, some rigs moved over to the end of the isle, like we begged for when we first pulled in. We were sardines, but then we got lucky with some cool neighbors, their rigs were smaller so gave us a great open area in the middle of all of us.

I felt sooo bad when I heard they either oversold or screwed up. When we walked thru on Weds eve, we wondered why they parked everyone close, (which is awesome, but) They should of put the entrance for the RV's to come in at the other end. There were plenty of open elect, but we wondered how a huge rig would even get into it.

Poor people in line Friday we saw on the way to the PBR, same guys were in line as when we went into it!! it was a parking lot.

We arrived on Wednesday night and the parking idiots are the ones that screwed things up. There were white lines and red marks in the area we pulled into in EDI. They told us to go off of the white lines and that the red marks were to mark off the aisle/fire lane. Later to find out on Thursday morning that was all wrong and the red marks were the spots. They were definitely not 20' wide! Some of Wednesday night crew were the ones that screwed everything up at least over in EDI. Other than that I had a blast the whole weekend!!

We were told they were 15'wide in EDII NO WAY, ours was 13 and our neighbors was 17! my rig is 10' wide, plus the pop out and our door! no way were were fitting, thank goodness our neighbors were kind and we all worked it out moving over, but within our "RED" lines...

I have to agree with you so different from last year the left of the stage we were allowed to take our blankets and chairs this year they put a fence there and said standing room only. I waited in line at eldorado 1 at 7:30 am to get a good spot for my mother who is 68 years old and then when i get up in the venue i ran all the way there to find to seating there. When i goto the other side of the stage the spots were already taken from employees of vendors who dont pay do be there and have all the spots taken before they open the gates for the people who paid good money to be there us.They had yellow tape with their chairs and blankets before we even get in talking about a rip off.

We arrived Friday morning with ED1 electrical tickets. They told us to follow a golf cart to our spot. About two asiles away, the golf cart told us to "turn left" up ahead and park wherever we wanted. It was really easy. But, there were two sets of lines that cause some confusion.

I think they should supervise your parking. They do it in the regular parking lots, so they should do the same think in the RV areas.

yea i had some issues with camping as well. I was in the tent area and was disappointed when the showers closed at noon and i got to the showers at 11 and was told there were too many people in line so i couldnt shower somy friend and i ran over to the el dorardo 2 camp site and the showers there were open till 2. i dont understand why they were open longer and why there were more showers in the rv section. I think that there should have been more showers in the tent area only because RV's have access to showers. (i know there wasnt water hookups but from what i heard you guys were able to have someone come out and fill your water tanks) correct me if im wrong but i think they messed up on the camping sites. I also dont understand why most of their security and help didnt know anythinig about what was going on with the show. One person would tell us no in and outs the next would tell us yes..they obliviously didnt communicate with eachother...i think they were more organized last year and hope that for next year they get there act together.

THE RV SPACES HAD NO COSISNTACY OUR SPOT WAS 14 FEET WIDE AND OUR NEIGHBORS WAS LIKE 17
THERE WAS SOO MANY LINES PAINTED WHITE, RED PINK, YELLOW I MOVED OVER ABOUT 5 FEET SO I COULD OPEN MY SLIDES AND EXIT MY RV AND HOPED I DID NOT GET A 45' BOHEMOTH NEXT TO ME WE GOT LUCKY

OH AND THE ELECTRIC HOOK UPS SUCKED POWER WENT OUT GOD KNOWS HOW MANY TIMES. THEY NEED TO RE WORK HOW THE HOOK UPS ARE THE ONE I WAS TO PLUG IN WAS OVER 80 FOOT FROM ITS DIST BOX I ENDED UP PLUGGING INTO SOMEONES ELSES CONNECTIN WHICH WAS AT THE BEGGINING OF THE DIST. BOX

YA YA PEOPLE SHOULD ONLY USE 1 AC UNIT BUT STILL NOT ENOUGH JUICE RUNNING THROUGH THE LINES ..

I hate to keep bringing this up but the truth is that when we pay the kind of money we did we expect things to be better organized. We were in El D 2 and like everyone else had to pay $50 bucks a pop for wristbands when they just ended up turning it into a parking lot that anyone could enter or exit. A few of my neighbors complained about it & got refunds. I realize this is only the 2nd year but we are paying a lot of $ for there inexperience, ill communication and mistakes.

IHML - I can honestly say that I don't think SunKisses meant that comment to you...we knew you were held up and tryin'...it was everyone else that flaked. We stood around waiting and USC even went on his cell online to see if it had been cancelled or changed. Just a bummer really. I was looking forward to meetin more of you and seeing some of you do thos Grass Angels.

I had a great time even tho we didn't get a group picture. I am sorry we didn't get to meet more of ya'll....

Definitely nothing meant by that at all as I've explained to IHML. Wish we could have hooked up at some point. We would have had fun. :)

So this was my first time at Stagecoach and music-wise, it was great. But when it came to event organization, especially for RV campers, the operation was ATROCIOUS. I thought I was being super-prepared by paying, months in advance, quite a bit extra to be in the nearby El Dorado 1 campground with the hookup. But it was all for nothing when I got bumped to the International Lot, and there were DOZENS others who were in the same situation. My suspicion is they overbooked, though the festival people just said they didn't park the RVs right in ED1.
And the security guard who told me where to park in the International lot -- the first thing he said to me was, "I've never done this before, I've never done anything with RVs before and now they just told me to park them. How am I supposed to know what to do?" Inspired quite a bit of confidence.
Then the fire marshals, on Sat. morning, made RV campers in the International lot pack up all their stuff just to move their RVS up about 5 feet to accommodate fire lanes. The word from the volunteers running the info booths was that Goldenvoice royally screwed up the camping reservations system, which I would tend to agree with.
I had counted on having the hookup and not relying on my generator, which was so-so at best when we arrived. By Sunday, the generator and all the battery backups were dead. Thanks Goldenvoice!!
The ironic thing is that the people who got there early were obviously the ones who had bought tickets for Friday night shows, which were the last to be added to the lineup. So everyone else who paid first and made plans for the original two-night deal got screwed the worst for their advance planning.

I feel for you NOT GOOD, we showed up Wed eve due to the rampage last year, although it was more organized lat year. We did not buy tx for Friday, but won some, but no intention of going, we just knew to get there early no matter what, but with that said, you bought hook-ups, then you should of had them!!.

Hopefully next year they can redeam themselves to all of us!

I arrived as early as I could because of the things people said here about last year (running out of room, etc.)

Everything was fine with me arriving on Friday morning. But, just after I arrived (somewhere around 10 AM) a large rush of RVs came in behind me. That must have started the problems. I guess I just beat the rush by a few minutes.

I Ran Into One Person Who Got Bumped To The International Lot From ED1. She Said Goldenvoice Gave Them Backstage Passes For The Entire Weekend For The Inconvenience....??? I, Personally Would Have Rather Have Had The Electrical Hook-ups That I Paid For, But Have To Admit That Would Be A Pretty Good Comparable Trade. At Least They Recognized The Error and Tried To Make Good On A Bad Situation.
